Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve easier assembling and higher reliability by employing conductive thin plates for spacers between a pair of substrates.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of spacers 4 composed of aluminum foils or copper foils are prepared. After a glass substrate 1a having been formed with a trsnsparent conductive layer 3 on its top face is dispersedly disposed thereon with the spacer 4 groups in contact with the transparent conductive layer 3, the anode of a power source 5 is connected to the transparent conductive layer 3 and its cathode 6 is contacted to the bottom face of the glass substrate 1a. While an electric field is generated by this, the glass substrate 1a is heated by a suitable heater to allow the spacer 4 groups to bond thereto, thence a glass substrate 1b is opposedly disposed in contact with the spacer 4 groups and is bonded to the spacers 4 by the similar method. This lets both substrates 1a, 1b be oppsoedly held at a fixed and even spacing corresponding to the thickness of the spacers 4. In addition, surface staining owing to organic binders, etc. is prevented because no adhesive agents are used in bonding of the spacers 4 and the both substrates 1a, 1b.
