Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the dielectric breakdown of a fluorescent lamp and the production of black spot thereon, by providing a transprent electro-conductive coating film on the inside surface of a fluorescent tube and coating a fluorescent substance of large grain size on said film.
CONSTITUTION: The transparent electrocuductive coating film (nesa film) 2 of tin oxide (SnO2-x) is coated on the inside surface of the fluorescent tube 1 of glass. The fluorescent substance 3 is coated on said film. Mercury gas and argon gas are filled in the tube, thereby manufacturing the nesa-type fluorescent lamp. The grain diameter of the fluorescent substance 3 is made larger 6 μm to increase the percentage of voids between the grains of the fluorescent substance. Discharge is caused through the voids. The higher the percentage is, the lower the effect of the discharge on the fluorescent substance is. The black spot is thus prevented from being produced on the fluorescent tube by breakdown discharge. If fine powder of tin oxide (SnO2-x) is blended in the fluorescent substance, the fine grains of the powder adhere to the surfaces of the grains of the fluorescent substance to raise the bonding property of the fluorescent substance with the coating film 2.
