Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the stay time of radioactive waste gas and reduce its radioactivity, by causing a fluid to flow back and forth through a plurality of passages provided in a reducing tube.
CONSTITUTION: The reducing tube 1 comprises an inlet tube 2, an outlet tube 3 and a large-diameter reducing part 4 located between the tubes 2, 3. A cylinder 5 closed at one end but open at the other is fixed with fixing members 7 in the reducing part 4 concentrically therewith so that the open end 6 of the cylinder 5 is located at the side of the inlet tube and an annular opening 8 is defined between the inside surface 4a of the reducing part and the outside surface 5a of the cylinder. An extending part 10 of the inlet tube 2 is placed in the cylinder 5 concentrically therewith so that the tip of the extending part 10 is located near the closed end 9 of the cylinder 5 and another annular opening 11 is defined between the inside surface 5b of the cylinder 5 and the outside surface 10a of the extending part 10. The radioactive waste gas flows in the extending part 10 of the inlet tube 2 in the direction of the arrow and collides against the closed end 9 of the cylinder so that the flowing direction of the gas is changed. Then, the gas flows to the outlet tube 3 through the annular openings 8, 11.
