Abstract

PURPOSE: Hyrogen crack resistant steel plate is provided from conventional types of steel plate by specifically controlled rolling and adequately accelerated cooling for structure control.
CONSTITUTION: Steel containing one or more of C:0.03 to 0.2%, Si:0.1 to 0.8%, Mn:0.5 to 2%, P:below 0.05%, S:below 0.01%, Cu:0.19%, Al:0.005 to 0.1%, and if required Nb: below 0.1%, V:below 0.1%, Ni:below 0.5%, Cr:below 0.5%, Ca:below 0.005% is heated to a temperature of 950 to 1200°C. The steel is then rolled under the condition such that accumulaed reduction in nonrecrystallization temperature zone is over 40% and the finishing temperature is over A3 modification pont. The steel is next acceleratedly cooled from a temperature higher than A3 modification point to 550 to 650°C at a rate of 3 to 20°C/sec followed by natural cooling, thereby forming 30% or more of bainite structure on the surface of the steel plate.
