Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively remove soot from a heat transfer surface, by utilizing the evaporation heat of water to give a thermal shock to the soot.
CONSTITUTION: Heat transfer pipes 2 are provided in the casing of a boiler 1. An ejection pipe 4 is equipped with numerous nozzles 5 to eject a mixture of water with steam and a mixture of water with air into combustion gas 3. The appropriate percentage of the ejected auxiliary media to the water is 5 to 10 % by weight. The evaporation heat of the ejected water is utilized to give the thermal shock to the soot adhering to the surface of the heat transfer pipe. The soot is removed by the impact due to the expansion of the evaporated water. Therefore, it is not substantially required to raise the pressure of the ejected fluid in order to heighten the soot removing effect.
