Abstract

PURPOSE: To make use of the charging work of an oxygen concentration cell to be used for an oxygen-deficiency sensor for preventing the waste of a secondary cell by charging the secondary cell for ignition or a safety device by means of the output from the oxygen concentration cell provided in a gas combustion apparatus.
CONSTITUTION: An oxygen concentration cell 1 is composed of porous electrodes provided on a sintered body of oxygen-ion-conductive solid electrolyte. this oxygen concentration cell 1 is heated to a high temperature by a combustion flame A in a gas burner; one electrode is brought into contact with the combustion flame or the combustion gas, while another electrode with the air or the unburned gas mixed with the secondary air. A secondary cell 2 is charged by the electromotive force of about 0.8 V generated by the difference of oxygen concentrations. The secondary cell 2 is used for an ignition heater 5 and an electromagnetic valve 3 to open and close a gas supply passage. The oxygen concentration cell 1 is also used for a sensor to detect the interception of combustion caused by oxygen-deficiency or blowing-off.
