Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance response characteristics and accuracy of operation by a method wherein a sensor pipe is arranged so that it is heated to red heat by an inner flame at the time of setting at a minimum-output combustion, the glow of the red heat is taken out as an electrical signal through a photo-conductor and a light-receiving element and the supply of fuel is stopped when the signal is in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic-made sensor pipe 21 having one end P closed is placed at such a position that it is heated to red heat by a tip portion of the inside flame at the time of setting at the minimum-output combustion. The red heat glow emitted from the inside surface of the sensor pipe 21 heated to red heat is converted to an electrical signal corresponding to the intensity of the red heat glow through the photo-conductor 24 and the light-receiving element, and the signal is fed to a controller (not shown). The electrical signal depends on the red heat glow, and hence on the oxygen concentration. The fuel supply is stopped through the controller when the signal is in the range of danger of oxygen deficiency. Accordingly, the response characteristic, accuracy and stability of operation can be enhanced by placing the sensor pipe having one end closed and a large capacity at the position of the inside flame formed at the time of the minimum-output combustion.
