Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut off gas accurately at the time of oxygen shortage, by connecting in parallel a gas-passage electromagnetic valve and a transition metal oxide semiconductor element with an oxygen gradation cell, which generates electromotive force at the time of combustion.
CONSTITUTION: Electrode 31 on one side is brought into contact with the flame of panel-shaped main fire port 1, and electrode 32 on the other side is brought into contact with flame 2A of burner 2, which burns at all times under the condition of oxygen shortage. Oxygen gradation cell 3 is connected in parallel with coil 52 of electromagnetic valve 5 of gas passage 4, and oxygen shortage sensor 7, consisting of a transition metal oxide semiconductor, such as titanium dioxide. Oxygen sensor 7 is normally placed in the combustion gas of main fire port 1 where the oxygen of the combustion flame diminishes as the oxygen inside the room decreases. During the time when normal burning continues, electromagnetic valve 5 operates normally. When the density of oxygen in air falls, the current flowing in the electromagnetic valve becomes about 1/10 of the current flowing in sensor 7, and cover 54 of electromagnetic valve 5 is closed, and the supply of gas is stopped.
