Abstract

In a control unit for producing cleaner waste gases from a combustion process, partic. industrial heating, of the type having a sensor for measuring the oxygen concentration in the waste gases and producing thereby a signal, the magnitude of which depends on such concentration, acting via a controller on an adjusting member for regulating the fuel-air ratio, the waste gas sensor used to regulate this ratio in an oil or gas burner of a furnace consists of an ion-conducting solid electrolyte probe, the electrical potential difference from which is dependent on the oxygen concentration in the waste gas and controls the combustion air quantity via a regulating device, in such a way that a minimum oxygen concentration results. Reduction of atmospheric pollution is achieved. The probe is preferably ZrO2 or ThO2 based and doped with oxides of Ca, Mg as well as Y or other rare earths.
