Abstract

1510653 Gas analysis ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 8 May 1975 [6 Dec 1974] 19302/75 Heading G1N The combustible component content in a gas mixture is measured by the change in temperature and resistance of a heated wire located in the gas mixture. As shown, Fig. 4, the wire 10 is connected in a bridge network and fed with current via transistor 30 sufficient to heat it to cause combustion of oxidizable gas components. Unbalance of the bridge network produced by the resulting change in temperature and resistance of wire 10 is amplified at 24 to produce a corresponding change in the collector emitter current of transistor 26, which is measured at 25 and changes the voltage to one input of differential amplifier 37 whose other input is a reference voltage. The amplifier output alters the current supplied by transistor 30 to effectively restore the resistance and temperature of wire 10 to its normal value. The current through wire 10 is periodically increased to burn off any crust that may be formed on its surface. The wire 10 may alternatively be fed with constant current and its resistance change measured directly. The above may be combined with an infrared analyzer measuring the CO content of the gas mixture, which is subtracted from the total combustible content to determine the hydrocarbon content.
