(57)【要約】 【目的】 特定の消費者の嗜好に適合した買物情報の検
索を容易にするために、 【構成】 放送、ケーブル配線あるいは衛星などの急速
伝送路を経由した常時最新の電子買物装置をデータベー
スから読出してアクセスし、消費者の嗜好に自動に相関
させる消費者用インターフェースをシステムに備え、自
動相関の結果に基づいた少なくとも一つの個人専用買物
情報データベースを作成して表示する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、放送、ケーブル配線あ
るいは衛星などの急速伝送路を経由した常時最新の電子
買物装置をデータベースから読出してアクセスし、消費
者の嗜好に自動に相関させる消費者用インターフェース
をシステムに備え、自動相関の結果に基づいた少なくと
も一つの個人専用買物情報データベースを作成して表示
する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】米国特許第4,047,867 号明細書には消費
者が、好みのテレビジョン番組に関する情報とビデオテ
ープに蓄積した番組に関する情報とを同様に取入れ得る
ようにしたテレビジョン放送−ビデオ記録システム用イ
ンターフェースが記載してある。かかる情報には番組
名、放送チャネル、開始時間、時間長、繰返しパターン
および消費者の番組記録の希望の有無を含めることがで
きる。この明細書には、さらに、テレビジョン受像機の
画像内画像（ＰＩＰ）表示によってかかる情報を直覚的
に容易に再生し得るようにしたインターフェース・シス
テムを記載してあり、この特許の開示内容をここで参照
する。
【０００３】複写可能の情報データベースを利用するテ
レビジョン・システムが、例えば、インサイト・テレキ
ャスト社による米国特許第4,751,578 号および第4,977,
455号明細書に記載されてるので参照する。かかるシス
テムを用いれば、テレビジョン番組情報をメモリに書込
み、読出すとともに、プロセサによるプログラム可能の
テレビジョン選局器の制御に用い得る。また、米国特許
第5,093,718 号明細書には、ケーブル、光ファイバ、衛
星等のシステムとすることができる急速データ伝送路を
介して図表や双方向通信を含むこの種の情報を提供し得
るシステムが記載してある。視聴者を番組制作に応動さ
せる双方向テレビジョン・システムが、ここに参照する
例えば米国特許第5,101,267 号明細書に記載してあり、
集積データサービス回路網および双方向ケーブル・シス
テムもかかる相互作用を提供するものであり、この文献
で大いに論じられている。
【０００４】1986年12月刊の「接続機械協会通信」誌、
第29巻、第12号、1229乃至1239頁記載のスタンフィル、
カール共著の「接続機械系における並列自由データ検
索」と題する論文には、データの各所に提供した情報の
相関を求めるのに用い得る種子語群を検索する方法を詳
述した「自由データ検索」として知られている方法が記
載してあり、この論文の内容を特に参照する。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】家庭買物番組は、今日
のテレビジョン放送およびケーブルテレビジョン番組一
般の特徴になっており、製品は、販売員によって販売に
提供され、視聴者からの電話によって注文が行なわれて
いる。しかしながら、近い将来においては、テレビジョ
ン番組の一部として、もしくは、テレビジョン番組と同
時に伝送するデータベースにより、視聴者が電子的に
「物色」し得るようになり、そのデータベースには消費
者向けの販売品目の記事が設けられるようになる。かか
る記事は文言および絵画で構成され、以下では電子カタ
ログ情報「ＥＣＩ」と呼ぶこととする。かかるＥＣＩデ
ータは、幾多の領域の消費者、すなわち、男女老若、あ
るいは、スポーッマン、音楽家等にそれぞれ訴える種々
雑多の品目が含まれることになる。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明は、特定の消費者
独特の特性と、その消費者が特に関心を示す電子カタロ
グ情報ＥＣＩの品目との相関を求める方法および装置を
提供するものである。
【０００７】本発明の好適な実施例は、消費者向け販売
に供する商品の例えば文言および絵画による描写を含み
得る幾多のＥＣＩデータを備えた最新情報データベース
を、テレビジョン番組とともに伝送する相互作用テレビ
ジョン伝送系に対して使用し得るインターフェース・シ
ステムを備えており、このインターフェース・システム
には、さきに参照したスタンフィル、カール共著の論文
に開示されているような番組技術者周知の自由データ検
索を利用したプロセサを設けてある。
【０００８】本発明の他の実施例は、視聴者が関心を示
す品目と相関を有するＥＣＩ目品のみならず、音声・映
像の切換えを制御して、視聴者が関心を示す品目と相関

の趣味、道楽および他の購買意欲に関する情報を広告業
者および商人の最新の分布に合わせて編集する手段を備

【実施例】以下に記載する本発明の実施例は、本願人が
所有し、本願と共通の発明者による前述の米国特許第5,
047,867 号明細書記載の幾多の特徴を備えており、この
特許明細書には、メモリの各部を種々の領域の番組情報
の蓄積に用い得るようにする態様を記載してある。例え
ば、第１のメモリ位置には、将来のテレビジョン番組に
関する情報を、視聴者が好む番組に関する情報ととも
に、データベースの形で蓄積することができ、このデー
タベースをアクセスすることにより、視聴者は、進歩し
たメニュおよびＰＩＰを組込んだ表示器のシステムと拡
大したチャネル網とを用いて、「将来の番組」とともに
「好みの放送番組」を表示することができる。前述の特
許明細書に記載の特定のデータベースからの情報を視聴
者に提供する技術は、ここに参照する本発明の表示条件
に容易に適合させることができる。
【００１１】図１には、本発明の好適な実施例をブロッ
ク線図の形で示す。この実施例においては、視聴者向け
販売に供する商品の品目を表わすＥＣＩデータととも
に、番組材料を、例えば、圧縮した音声・映像番組デー
タを例えばＭＰＥＧおよびＭＵＳＩＣＡＭ様式を用いて
伝送するディジタル伝送系を介して提供するものとし、
この情報は、周期的に更新し得るものとする。
【００１２】図１に示した装置は一例に過ぎず、また、
各種のブロック要素は、互いに分離することも、図示の
ような大きい装置に集積することも、本発明の範囲内で
可能であると理解すべきである。音声・映像番組材料を
ＥＣＩデータとともに備えたディジタルデータを図示の
システムの入力端２に提供するが、このディジタルデー
タは、放送あるいは単方向もしくは双方向のケーブル、
光ファイバ、衛星もしくはこの種の情報の伝達に適した
他の手段を介し、高周波信号として提供することができ
る。この説明のために、視聴者向け販売に供する商品に
関する文言および絵画の情報を含め得る、広帯域すなわ
ち高速のディジタル・データ・チャネルによって提供す
るものとす
【００１３】図示の実施例においては、ビデオ記録器Ｖ
ＣＲ５をテレビジョン受像機40に組合わせて使用し、Ｖ
ＣＲ５と受像機40とは、それぞれ高周波復号器10および
15を有し、画像内画像（ＰＩＰ）回路30による２復号信
号の組合わせ表示、あるいは、復号器15からの復調信号
とテープ輸送器20からの蓄積番組との組合わせを可能に
する。
【００１４】視聴者は、遠隔制御器42を用いて、ＶＣＲ
５および受像機40を周知の態様で制御し、以下に述べる
物色モードの期間中、電子カタログ情報ＥＣＩ内の好き
な品目もしくは嫌いな品目を指示し得る入力キーを提供
する。
【００１５】各復号器は、それぞれ、以下に詳述するよ
うに、音声・映像データの復調および復号あるいはその
他の処理を行なう。高周波復号器10の出力は、テープ輸
送器20によって記録し、あるいは、補助入力端を介して
受像機40まで通過させる。一方、高周波復号器15は、高
周波信号入力中のＥＣＩデータを分離して、プロセサ35
に供給する。高周波復号器15により復号した音声・映像
データは、２個の番組源を備えて主様式と画像内画像表
示様式との間で入力プログラムを切換え可能にした周知
の素子であるＰＩＰ回路30に切換え可能に結合させて表
示器25に供給する。このＥＣＩデータは、プロセサ35に
より処理し、以下に詳述するように、図形発生器32と組
合わせて、ＰＩＰ回路30の出力と組合わせ得るデータ出
力を表示器25に供給する。
【００１６】図２には、高周波復号器15の詳細なブロッ
ク線図を示す。高周波復号器10はこの復号器15と同型に
することができる。高速データ・チャネルにおいてし、
ＥＣＩデータを含むデータを、音声・映像データを備え
たパケットの形に圧縮して供給することができる。ＥＣ
Ｉデータには、販売品目の音声および完全動画表示を、
各品目の特色の要約説明文とともに備えることがてき
る。
【００１７】ディジタル・データで変調した高周波信号
は、例えば、チューナ兼復調器６に供給してパケット群
を復調して分離する。パケット選択器７はディジタル信
号処理用の周知技術を用いてＥＣＩパケットからテレビ
ジョン番組材料パケット群を分離し、圧縮した番組デー
タパケット群をデータ伸張器８に供給するとともに、Ｅ
ＣＩパケット群をバッファ９供給する。伸張器８は、番
組データを拡張して音声および映像のテレビジョン番組
を、バッファ９を介し、ＰＩＰ回路30に供給する。この
実施例では番組データをディジタルの形態で表している
が、アナログ情報にして、ＥＣＩパケット分離用以外の
パケット選択器およびデータ圧縮器の必要性をなくすこ
ともできる。
【００１８】電子カタログ情報ＥＣＩは、視聴者向け販
売に提供し、例えば製品毎の説明文書の分節の形に配置
した製品情報を含めたデータベースからなっており、か
かる情報のカタログには、例えば、販売者、価格、分類
（すなわち、スポーツ用品、服飾品、家庭用電子機器、
自動車、食品およびコンサート、演劇、映画、スポーツ
競技等の切符）、最新カタログ（すなわち、新製品ある
いは特売品）、最新テレビジョン買物番組等のためのテ
レビジョン放送予定情報、視聴者が要求して利用し得る
パンフレット（すなわち、印刷カタログ、消費者情報、
その他の製品情報源）を含み得るものである。他の分野
のデータには、上述した各製品の静止画もしくは完全動
画の映像が含まれる。
【００１９】図３に詳細構成を示すプロセサ50は、第１
データベース52、第２データベース54および第３データ
ベース56からなる３区画に構成した揮発性メモリに対す
る書込み・読出し指令を設定して制御するのに必要なメ
モリアドレス機能を達成するようにプログラムした中央
処理ユニットＣＰＵ50を備えている。このＣＰＵ50は、
遠隔制御器42による視聴者からの正負の帰還を受入れ、
以下に述べるようにデータベース52，54および56のいず
れかと組合わせて使用するようにもプログラムしてあ
り、さらに、前述したスタンフィル・カール共著の参照
文献に詳述してあるような自由データ検索をデータベー
ス52，54および56のいずれかに施すようにもプログラム
してある。
【００２０】データベース52は、複写したＥＣＩデータ
記録を蓄積して周期的に更新するのに使用し、また、デ
ータベース54は、データベース52から選定した、消費者
が正の帰還を行なって「好き」と指示した記録、もしく
は、消費者が負の帰還を行なって「嫌い」と指示した記
録の蓄積に使用する。ここで、「好き」もしくは「嫌
い」により、あるゆる種類の正もしくは負の反作用、例
えば、興味の有無、高価過ぎもしくは適値価格、あるい
は視聴者によるその他のあるゆる正負の反作用を意味す
るものとする。
【００２１】「好き」もしくは「嫌い」の表示は幾通り
かの方法で行なうことができる。前述した米国特許明細
書には、拡張したチャネル網および表示系の使用によ
り、消費者に一群の記録を任意に読み漁らせることが記
載してあり、これらの技術は、データベース52，54およ
び56と組合わせて、これらのデータベースに蓄積してあ
る情報を表示するのにも適用することができる。
【００２２】この物色モードにおいては、消費者は、デ
ータベース52に蓄積してあるＥＣＩデータを、データベ
ース52内のＥＣＩデータ記録の１番目を表わす記録Ｒか
ら初めて、順次に走査することができる。
【００２３】図４は、この物色過程を説明するフローチ
ャートである。「好き」もしくは「嫌い」の表示は、幾
通りかの方法により行なうことができる。中央処理ユニ
ットＣＰＵ50に第１のデータベース（すなわちメモリ区
画52）のアドレスを開始させる遠隔制御器42上の「開
始」もしくは「物色」のボタンを消費者が押すステップ
100 で始まる。
【００２４】ステップ110 においては、前述の米国特許
明細書に記載の表示過程と同様の態様で、第１データベ
ース52中の第１データ記録Ｒに対する情報を表示する。
ＰＩＰ回路30は、視聴者が遠隔制御器42を用いて周知の
態様で制御することもでき、また、選択したデータ記録
を、ＰＩＰ回路30が供給した画像に重畳して文言もしく
は絵画の情報として表示することができ、あるいは、Ｐ
ＩＰ回路30が供給した画像に換えて表示することができ
る。なお、かかる変更は、上述した本発明の変形実施と
して理解すべきものである。
【００２５】ついで、ステップ115 においては、選択し
たＥＣＩデータ記録Ｒを見る際に、視聴者は、表示され
た選択が好きか好きでないか、あるいは、嫌いか嫌いで
ないかを記録することができる。ここで、「好き」およ
び「嫌い」なる語は、視聴者が入力し得るあらゆる種類
の正もしくは負の帰還を表わすのに用いる。例えば、
「好き」の応答は、相互作用の双方向ケーブルシステム
を介し、その品目に対する注文を発するボタンを押すこ
とにより、消費者が行なうことができる。「有料」映画
を選択するのに用いる従来周知のシステムがあるが、こ
のシステムは購買品目を指示するための機構として用い
るのに容易に適応させることができ、遠隔制御器42上の
「好き」ボタンを押すことにより、容易に達成すること
ができる。ＥＣＩ記録に特定の買物番組等に関する予定
情報が記載されている場合には、消費者がその番組が記
録されるべきであることを指示するボタンをおすことに
よって「好き」の応答を達成することもできる。
【００２６】「好き」の応答を入力することにより、ス
テップ125 においてフラッグがその記録中に設定され

54）中に蓄積される。視聴者による負の応答も、同様
に、遠隔制御器42上の「嫌い」と記したボタンをおすこ
とによって達成され、ステップ120 において、その記録
中の応答したフラッグが、第２のデータベース52に、そ
の記録とともに蓄積される。その目的は、ＥＣＩデータ
ベース52中で消費者が「好き」、「嫌い」を明確に示し
た品目のみを含むデータベースを第２データベースとし
て形成することにあり、この第２データベースは、その
消費者の「関心の構図」を表わすものとなる。
【００２７】表示された記録に対する「好き」もしくは
「嫌い」を記録した後、消費者は、選択した記録群の範
囲内で前進させるか後退させる、かの希望に応じ、記録
の番号Ｒを前後に進歩させて他の記録群の検索を続ける
ことができる。その際、新たな記録番号は、第２の記録
を取出して表示し、消費者に提示するのに用いる。消費
者は、「好き」とも「嫌い」とも意見をもたない場合に
は、遠隔制御器42上の「次」もしくは「直前」のボタン
を押し、ステップ130 において一つ後もしくは一つ前の
番号の記録を選択する。「好き」の応答は、消費者が特
定の買物番組を視て記録している間にリアルタイムで、
第２のデータベース中にも記録することもできる。換言
すれば、消費者の意見に応じ、所定長より長い時間、例
えば15分間、買物番組の監視や記録を行なうだけで、自
動的に「好き」の応答として記録され、ステップ125 に
おいて、選択した番組に対応する第１データベース中の
記録が第２データベースに蓄積させる。
【００２８】第２データベースを発展させる目的は、メ
モリ区画内の第３データベース56中に消費者が個人専用
の情報データベースを発展させ得るようにすることにあ
る。この第３のデータベースは、消費者が遠隔制御器42
によりアクセスし、第２データベースに蓄積した記録の
いずれかに対応するとともに「好き」と指示したＥＣＩ
データの記録のみ、もしくは、図５に示す関心事モード
で第１データベースから自動的に選択した番組のみを消
費者が選択して観視し得るようにするためのものであ
る。消費者は、遠隔制御器42上の適切なボタンを押し、
あるいは、複写したＥＣＩデータベース52を更新する度
毎に、この関心事モード200 の検索を開始させることが
できる。
【００２９】第２データベースに蓄積してある各記録の
要約データを含むメモリ分野は、図５のステップ210 と
215 との間の往復により「自由データ検索」に則って分
析する。この要約データは、典型的には、販売に供する
品目を記載するとともに、品目の属する分類（すなわ
ち、スポーツ用品、服飾品、家庭用電子機器、自動車、
食品およびコンサート、演劇、映画、スポーツ競技等の
切符）、最新カタログ（すなわち、新製品あるいは特売
品）、最新テレビジョン買物番組等のためのテレビジョ
ン放送予定情報、視聴者が要求して利用し得るパンフレ
ット（すなわち、印刷カタログ、消費者情報、その他の
製品情報源）を含み得るものである。なお、「ａ」、
「ｔｈｅ」など重要でない言葉は除去し、残余の言葉
も、接頭辞および接尾辞を除いて語幹だけに削減する。
「好き」な記録の各語幹には、正の重みをつけ、「嫌
い」な記録の各語幹には、「好き」な記録の語幹と同時
ではないが、負の重みをつける。これらの語幹と重みと
により、第１データベースから供給するＥＣＩデータ記
録、すなわち、複写したＥＣＩデータベースに対して
「単純な質問」を行なう。
【００３０】図５のフローチャートのステップ220 にお
ける「単純な質問」では、第１データベース52の各記録
に対して、その中の語幹に重みを合計することにより、
潜在的な修正値につき点数をつける。その際、各データ
記録の長さについて総得点を正規化する。この質問の処
理速度をあげるには、付加的な技術、特に、さきに参照
したスタンフィル・カールの論文に記載の記載の「代用
符号化」の技術を適用する。消費者の異なった型の「好
き」入力には重みの異なった値を割当てることができ、
例えばある品目の購入には重み５を割当て、物色中に遠
隔制御器を用いて番号ＲのＥＣＩ記録に「好き」の印を
つけるのには重み４を割当て、ＥＣＩ記録全体を十分に
視るのには重み３を割当てる。最高の修正値すなわち重
みを有するこれらの記録群は、参考として取入れ、年代
順に、消費者が「好き」と実際に印をつけたそれらの記
録とともに第３データバンクに蓄積する。そこで、第３
データベースは、最初第１データベースに蓄積して複写
したＥＣＩデータベースの個人用変体、すなわち、個人
専用買物情報データベースとして消費者がアクセスする
ことができる。
【００３１】消費者の「関心状態」を蓄積した第２デー
タベース54、あるいは、個人専用電子買物情報データベ
ースを蓄積した第３データベース56は、分離可能のメモ
リ（「スマートカード」300 ）に取出すこともでき、あ
るいは、双方向システムに用いる周知の伝送方法310 を
用いたケーブル端局に直接に取出すこともでき、従っ
て、このようにして取出した情報は、販売調査データを
蓄積する商人に売り付け、あるいはこれらの商人が利用
することができる。

【発明の効果】以上の説明から明らかなように、本発明
は、個人専用電子買物情報データベースを創成するため
に、例えば、自由データ検索を用いて自動的に、消費者
がそれぞれの嗜好に合った買物情報を得られるようにす
る方法を提供するものである。
【００３３】双方向相互作用システム（例えば、双方向
ケーブル・電話システムなど）の場合には、図３に示し
たプロセサおよびデータベースをケーブル会社あるいは
電話会社の端局に配置し、もしくは、その端局と各家庭
のテレビジョン受像機との間に分布させることができ
る。
【００３４】以上においては、好適な実施例について本
発明を説明したが、使用した用語は、説明用のものであ
って何ら限定するものではなく、また、本発明の要旨を
逸脱しない限り、付記した請求の範囲内の変更を加え得
るものである。

Claims (4)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 多数の要約記録を備えた電子情報データ
    ベースを受信し、蓄積し、表示する手段を備えたシステ
    ム用に個人専用情報データベースを設ける電子買物装置
    において、 前記要約記録から選択した第１の記録に対する好悪を選
    定して表示する手段、 当該第１の選択記録を蓄積する手段、 当該第１の選択記録を分析して第１の検索情報を分離す
    る手段、 当該第１の検索情報を用いて前記要約記録から第２の選
    択記録を選定する手段、および、 当該第２の選択記録を蓄積して前記個人専用情報データ
    ベースを形成する手段を備えたことを特徴とする電子買
    物装置。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記分析する手段に自由データ検索を行
    なう手段を設けたことを特徴とする請求項１記載の電子
    買物装置。
  3. 【請求項３】 前記要約記録に販売品目に関する情報を
    備えるとともに、前記個人専用情報データベースが当該
    販売品目に対する消費者の嗜好を明示することを特徴と
    する請求項１記載の電子買物装置。
  4. 【請求項４】 前記第２の選択記録を蓄積する手段を分
    離可能にしたことを特徴とする請求項１記載の電子買物
    装置。
