が，既に広げられた状態で事故の際のほぼ所望の目標位
置に設けられている。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は，車両座席の側方で車両
の側壁又は横扉に設けられるエアバツクが，車両の側面
衝突の際自動的に膨らまされて，車両座席上の人間を保
護する車両用側面緩衝エアバツグ装置に関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】エアバツグ装置は原理的には公知であ
り，既に標準装備品として車両に組込まれる。これらの
標準装備品としてのエアバツグは正面緩衝装置で，乗用
車等の運転者又は同乗者を前窓ガラス又は計器盤等への
衝突に対して保護する。このようなエアバツグ装置で
は，気体発生器が折畳まれたエアバツグと組合わされ，
このエアバツグは一般に保護覆いの下に設けられてお
り，エアバツグを膨らます際この保護覆いが開かれるか
又は破裂され，広げられるエアバツグが所望の方向へ向
く。
【０００３】同乗者を保護する正面緩衝エアバツグ装置
に関連して，ドイツ連邦共和国特許出願公開第２０６３
４７８号明細書から，折畳まれたエアバツグを前壁又は
計器盤のパツドへ埋込んで，これらの部分の表面が共通
な面にあるようにすることは公知である。こうして膨ら
まされる状態で特に大きいエアバツグが実現され，緊急
の場合同乗者と車両前壁又は計器盤との間の空間を満た
すことができる。正面衝突の際運転者を保護するエアバ
ツグ装置では，エアバツグがかじ取りハンドルと運転者
との間従つて比較的小さい自由空間で広けられるので，
僅かな大きさで充分である。
【０００４】英国特許出願公開第２２２０６２０号明細
書から，車両の側壁又は横扉にエアバツグ装置を設け
て，車両の側面衝突の場合にも乗客の保護を改善するこ
とが原理的に公知である。この英国特許出願公開第２２
２０６２０号明細書によれば，エアバツグは膨らまされ
かつ広げられた後比較的大きい体積を持ち，実際上側壁
又は横扉の全高を越えて延びて，窓開口も覆つてしま
う。
【０００５】また公開されてないが以前の出願に関する
ドイツ連邦共和国特許出願公開第４１１９７８８号明細
書によれば，側面衝突の際保護に役立つエアバツグは，
側壁又は横扉の下部範囲で上張り部分の裏側に設けら
れ，エアバツグの膨らむ際この上張り部分が押されて車
両内部空間の方へ揺動し，側壁又は横扉に上方へ向く開
口をあけ，通常は折畳まれているエアバツグの部分がこ
の開口から出て，クツシヨンを形成することができる。
【０００６】類似の装置が米国特許第４９６６３８８号
明細書から公知であり，ここでもエアバツグが上張り部
分の裏側に設けられ，エアバツグの膨らまし過程の始め
にこの上張り部分がエアバツグにより車両内部空間の方
へ押される。エアバツグの最初折畳まれている部分がそ
れから膨らまされて，クツシヨンを形成する。
【０００７】米国特許第３７９１６６７号明細書から，
車両内部空間に多数の小さいエアバツグを設け，車両の
側壁又は横扉にも設けることが公知である。エアバツグ
は強く伸張可能な膜により形成され，これらの膜が通常
は中空体の滑らかな側壁を形成し，この中空体へ空気が
導入される。
【０００８】車両の側壁又は横扉内に空気タンクを設
け，車両の側綿衝突の際空気タンクを圧縮し，この空気
タンクに連通するエアバツグを膨らませることは，特開
平２−２４９７４０号公報から公知である。
【０００９】これまでに構想された側面緩衝エアバツグ
は，満足すべき結果を生じない。これは，エアバツグを
保護に有効な状態にもたらすのに必要な時間が，利用可
能な時間に比較して非常に大きいことによる。この場合
考慮すべきことは，車両が，側面の方向に，乗客に及ぼ
される衝突の効果を緩和できる最初の塑性変形区域しか
持たないからである。その点で側面緩衝エアバツグ装置
に対しては，原理的に正面緩衝エアバツグ装置とは異な
る事情が存在する。
【００１０】英国特許出願公開第１４４１５９８号明細
書から，車両内部空間の側壁又は横扉に厚いパツド部分
を設けることが公知である。このパツド部分は常に効果
的であるが，エアバツグ装置に比較して保護効果は著し
く低い。なお常に存在するパツド部分は車両内部空間内
の自由空間を著しく制限する。
【００１１】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】さて本発明の課題は，
側面緩衝エアバツグ装置の効果を著しく改善することで
ある。
【００１２】
【課題を解決するための手段】この課題を解決するため
本発明によれば，エアバツグが少なくともほぼ完全に広
げられた状態で側面衝突の際ほぼ所望の目標位置に設け
られ，従つて気体導入の際実際上遅れなしに作用する。
【００１３】
【発明の効果】本発明は，エアバツグを既に広げて目標
位置に設けるという考えに基いているので，危険の場合
特に大きい速度で行うことができるエアバツグの気体充
填が必要なだけである。即ちこれまでのエアバツグ装置
においてエアバツグを広げるのに必要だつた時間は，所
望の内圧を生ずるのに利用することができる。
【００１４】車両の側壁又は横扉では比較的大きい空所
が利用可能で，広げられているエアバツグはこの空所内
で目標位置に収容されるので，危険な場合エアバツグの
とる空間は，所望の保護効果を得るために，膨らませ過
程により大きくしさえすればよい。
【００１５】なお本発明により，側面緩衝エアバツグ装
置の良好な保護作用のために，衝突の際膨らむ状態にあ
るエアバツグの最大体積は，衝突の際膨らむ状態に達す
る時の速度より小さい重要性しか持つていない。本発明
では，気体の導入の際エアバツグの外皮は実際上直ちに
緊張され，引続き緊張した状態で伸ばされてエアバツグ
体積を増大する。
【００１６】
【実施例】なお本発明の好ましい特徴は，従属請求項及
び図面に示す実施例の以下の説明から明らかになる。
【００１７】図面に見える車両横扉の内側で，内側上張
り１と扉外側との間の空所内に，図示しない車両座席の
範囲で側面緩衝エアバツグ装置が設けられている。この
エアバツグ装置２は，扉下縁に対して平行に延びている
気体発生器３と，既に広けられて側面衝突事故の際とる
べき目標位置にほぼ設けられるエアバツグ４とから成つ
ている。従つてエアバツグ４は，実際上使用準備のでき
た状態で設けられている。エアバツグの外被を緊張させ
かつエアバツグ４の体積を大きくしながら膨らますため
に，気体を供給しさえすればよい。
【００１８】内側上張り１によりエアバツグ４が膨らむ
のを妨げられないようにするため，内側上張り１を扉の
構造部分に分離可能に結合することができる。その代り
に，膨らむエアバツグ１により内側上張りが比較的容易
に車両内剖空間の方へ移動するように，伸縮間隙５を設
けることも可能である。
【００１９】場合によつては，伸びる運動をエアバツグ
４と共にする充分可撓的な材料から内側上張り１を作る
こともできる。
【００２０】なおエアバツグ４を内側上張り１の一部と
して設けるか又は構成することも，原理的に可能であ
る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 車両座席の側方で車両の側壁又は横扉に
    設けられるエアバツグが，車両の側面衝突の際自動的に
    膨らまされるものにおいて，エアバツグ（４）が少なく
    ともほほ完全に広げられた状態で側面衝突の際ほぼ所望
    の目標位置に設けられ，従つて気体導入の際実際上遅れ
    なしに作用することを特徴とする，車両用側面緩衝エア
    バツグ装置。
  2. 【請求項２】 エアバツグ（４）が，側壁又は横扉に分
    離可能に結合されるか又は伸縮間隙（５）を介して結合
    される箔状の側壁上張り又は横扉上張り（１）の裏側に
    設けられていることを特徴とする，請求項１に記載の装
    置。
  3. 【請求項３】 エアバツグ（４）が，伸張可能に構成さ
    れるか又は伸張可能な箔材料から成る箔状の側壁上張り
    又は横扉上張り（１）の裏側に設けられていることを特
    徴とする，請求項１に記載の装置。
