Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 熱可塑性材料層と導電性材料層と繊維材料支
持層とが積層された包装材料同志を互いに重ね合わせ
て、シールジョーから高周波電流を導電性材料層に印加
して熱可塑性材料層を加熱溶融し、シールジョーの押圧
面から突出する突条でシール帯域を局部的に圧して、溶
融材料を流動させることにより、上記包装材料同志を互
いに流体密に接合する。 【構成】 シールジョー5の表面から突出する導電性の
突条9に高周波電流を印加しつつ、この突条9を、熱可
塑性材料層3、導電性材料層4ならびに繊維材料支持層
1からなる積層包装材料10、11の重ね合わせに押し
つけて、導電性材料層4を介して熱可塑性材料層3を加
熱溶融する。さらにシール帯域13,14の中央領域が
突条9で局部的に押しつられるので、溶融した熱可塑性
材料層3が流動して導電性材料層4の表面から微細なゴ
ミなどの異物を流失せしめ、これら導電性材料4間に異
物の混在を無くして接触性を高め、包装材料層10,1
1同志の密封接合を容易にかつ十分なものとする。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、シール帯域内の熱可塑
性材料の外層を互いに接触させてこれらを一時的にシー
ル温度に加熱し、融着するようにして包装積層材料をヒ
ートシールする装置に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】使い捨て方式の包装容器は、牛乳、果実
飲料等に用いられ、一般に積層包装材料で作られる。包
装材料は、両側を均質のプラスチック材料の薄い層で覆
われた、比較的剛性の中心支持層を具備する。この材料
は、アルミニウムはくまたはその他の材料を具備するこ
ともできる。この型の全ての包装積層材料に共通の特徴
は、これらがその外側、少なく共内容物に面する側に熱
可塑性材料、通常はポリエチレンの層を具備し、それに
よって互いに対向した積層材料の二つの部分を熱と圧力
とによって共に液密状態にシールできることである。
【0003】シールが所望の強さと液密性とを有するた
めには、共にシールすべき二つの熱可塑性の層が必ず清
浄で不純物の無いことが必要である。このような場合に
は熱可塑性の各層の完全な融合を得ることができ、その
結果、強い高密封性の点から見て最適のシールがもたら
される。熱可塑性の層の上には通常、熱可塑性の層の押
出しと共に包装積層材料上に形成される薄い酸化物の被
膜が存在するために熱可塑性の各層の完全な融合が往々
にして阻害され、従ってシールは理論的には可能な強さ
と密封性とを得られない。熱可塑性の層の表面には、例
えば、更にシールを阻害する内容物の残留物のような別
の種類の不純物も生ずる可能性がある。これは、内容物
が在る間に積層材料のシールが行われる、即ちシールを
行い得る前に互いに対向して置かれた熱可塑性材料の表
面間のすきまから内容物を先ず押し出さなければならな
い、という形式の包装製造に特有の問題である。しかし
実際問題として内容物は完全には絞り出されずに微量の
残留物が残り、これがシールを弱める。

【発明が解決しようとしている問題点】本発明の目的
は、前述の全ての難点が回避され且つ得られたシールが
最適の性状を有するように前述の形式の包装積層材料を
ヒートシールすることのできる装置を提供することを目
的とする。本発明の更に目的とするところは、たとえ包
装積層材料が例えば、酸化物、包装内容物の残留物、あ
るいは残渣のような不純物で覆われていても最適なシー
ルを可能とする包装積層材料をヒートシールする装置を
提供することにある。
【0005】本発明の更にまた、既知の装置に付随する
欠点をなくし、設計が簡単で信頼性のある包装積層材料
をヒートシールする装置を提供することにある。更にこ
の装置は、これを周知の形式の包装機械に適用し、低い
コストで得るものでなければならない。

【問題を解決する手段】本発明の以上その他の目的は繊
維質材料の支持層の内側にアルミ箔等の導電性材料層を
有しさらにその内側に熱可塑性材料層を有する一対の積
層材料を、互いに、その最内層である熱可塑性材料層間
でヒートシールする装置において、該一対の積層材料の
最内層である熱可塑性材料層どうしが少なくともシール
帯域間で、互いに接触させられ、さらに該シール帯域に
沿って積層材料の外層側から該一対の積層材料を押しつ
けるための作用面を有しかつ上記導電性材料層を加熱す
るための高周波電源に接続された細長いシールジョーを
有し、該シールジョーの作用面には、シール帯域内で高
周波加熱により溶融された熱可塑性材料層をシール帯域
へ押し出し堆積させるための突条が設けられていること
を特徴とする積層材料のヒートシール装置により達成さ
れる。

【作用】シールジョーには突条のみならず隣接領域をも
含む積層材料を加熱する領域が具備されているので、加
熱された熱可塑性材料は線状領域から隣接領域へ高速で
押しやられ、それにより既述のように効果的な混合と、
従って優れたシールが得られる。溶融熱可塑性材料がシ
ール帯域から隣接部分わきへ押しやられる間に、溶融熱
可塑性材料は可能な限りの不純物を混入連行し、一方、
互いに対向して置かれた積層材料の二つの熱可塑性の層
は、完全な融合が達成される程度にまで効果的に混合さ
れる。シール帯域内には不純物の無い非常に薄い熱可塑
性の層のみが残り、これが包装積層材料の支持層と密着
し、一方シール帯域の隣接領域内では双方の熱可塑性の
層からの良く混合された熱可塑性材料のたい積部分によ
って強みと優れた密封性が保証される。

【実施例の記載】本発明によるこの方法ならびにこの装
置の好適な実施例を添付図を参照して、詳細に説明す
る。図1に示す包装積層材料は、牛乳およびその他の飲
料の包装にしばしば用いられる形式のものである。この
包装積層材料は全体の厚さが0.4ないし0.5mmで、
繊維状物質の中央支持層1を具備し、この層1はその両
側を熱可塑性材料、特にポリエチレン、の比較的薄い均
質な層2,3で覆われている。外側のプラスチック層3
の一方と支持層1との間には更にアルミニウムはくの層
4がしばしば存在し、この層は熱可塑性材料(図示せ
ず)によって支持層に接合され、外側の均質な層3によ
って完全に覆われる。外側の熱可塑性の層2,3がある
ために、互いにシールされるべき各部分を一緒に押し付
け、同時に熱可塑性材料をその溶融温度にまで加熱する
ことにより、包装積層品を容易にヒートシールすること
ができる。本発明による方法および装置によって多形式
の包装積層材料をシールすることももちろん可能である
が、その包装積層材料は熱可塑性材料の層を備えなけれ
ばならない、とういことが前以て必要である。
【0009】図2は本発明による装置のシールジョー5
の断面を部分的に示す。シールジョー5は、電気的に不
導性の材料で作られ、導電性の材料、なるべくなら銅、
の棒7が挿入される溝を一方の側面に具えた本体6を具
備する。本体の一方の側面の中央に位置する棒7は、本
体6の周囲の部分と共にシールジョー5の作用面8を形
成する。この棒7は作用面8から突出する突条9が設け
られる。突条9は、断面がほぼ長方形であり、高さが積
層材料の厚さの0.2ないし0.8倍、なるべくは0.
5倍、の範囲であり、幅が包装積層材料の厚さにほぼ等
しいものである。かくしてシールジョー5の作用面8は
積層材料を加熱する中央に在る領域を具備し、これに一
方では突条9が、また他方では突条の側に少なく共一つ
の隣接領域が具えられる。アルミニウムはくを含む積層
材料の高周波溶接を可能とするために、棒7内の材料を
介して、積層材料を加熱する領域を高周波方式などの電
源に接続することができる。アルミニウムはくまたはそ
の他の導電性の層を含まない包装積層材料を一緒に接合
すべき場合には、積層材料を加熱する領域または棒7を
加熱し、また例えば電気抵抗材料でこれを構成すること
もできる。
【0010】本発明によるシールジョーは、材質ならび
に形式の異なった包装容器のシールの必要条件を満たす
ために、本発明の概念の範囲内で、これを種々の方法で
修正することができる。この種の代表的な修正として、
有害な温度上昇、あるいは加熱されてはならない隣接領
域への好ましくない熱の拡散を防止する冷却剤、例えば
水、の1個以上の導管をシールジョーに設けることがで
きる。シールジョーを、相互に動き得る幾つかの部分と
して設計することもできる。例えば、突条9の両側にあ
るシールジョーの部分を、突条9に対して動き得るよう
にし且つ材料に向かう方向にばね荷重をかけ、それによ
って適切な接触圧力が自動的に生ずるようにすることが
できる。シールジョーはこれを二重にすることができ、
換言すれば、互いにある距離をおいて配設された前述の
形式の2個の本体を具備することができる。この実施例
は、包装材料のチューブが密封される、即ち二つの横断
帯域でシールされ且つこれらの間で切断される場合に特
に適しているが、それはシールジョーの2個の本体の間
の空間でナイフまたはその他何等かの適当な切断装置を
その時に作動させることができるからである。
【0011】図3は、本発明による方法と装置とによっ
て二つの包装積層材料を一緒にシールする際のシール順
序を示す。二つの包装積層材料10,11(または折り
畳まれた同じ包装積層材料の二つの部分)が、シールに
備えて、それらの外側の熱可塑性の層3が互いに対向す
るように接合されている。包装積層材料は、シールジョ
ー5と、包装積層材料の反対側に対向して位置する対向
ジョー12(一点鎖線で示す)とによって一緒に押し付
けられる。このシールジョー5は図2に示す形式のもの
で、一方対向ジョー12には積層材料11に対向して位
置する平らな作用面が設けられる。ジョー5,12は液
圧式または機械式の駆動装置によって往復運動できるよ
うにして包装機械のフレーム(図示せず)に懸架され、
これによりシールの際ある程度の調節可能な力でこれら
を一緒に押し付けることができる。ジョーが互いに向き
合って動き、その間に置かれた包装積層材料10,11
を一緒に押し付け始めると同時にシールジョー5の棒7
が高周波電源に接続される。このようにして包装積層材
料のアルミニウム層4内に交番磁界が誘導され、それに
よってこれらが棒7の表面に対応する領域内で隣接する
熱可塑性の層の溶融温度よりかなり高い温度にまで加熱
される。生成された熱はアルミニウム層間に位置する熱
可塑性の層3に直接伝達され、それによってこれらが溶
融し、流体となる。包装積層材料を突起9と同じ高さで
一緒に押しやる高い圧力(約100kg/cm2 )のため
に、溶融熱可塑性材料はシール帯域13,14全体の中
の高圧の領域13から隣接部分14に走り、または流れ
込む。シール帯域13,14の外方の領域で互いに対向
して位置する熱可塑性の層3は引き続き固体の状態を保
ち、互いに対向して押し付けられるので、溶融熱可塑性
材料はそれ以上シール帯域外方に流出できずに参照番号
14で示される二つの帯域に留まり、ここで細長い圧力
帯域13と平行に延びるふくらみ部分15を形成し、そ
の中で互いにシールされた二つの層が混合される。帯域
13内には表面の凹凸等のために絞り出され得ない微量
のプラスチック材料のみが残り、一方、この帯域の両側
に形成されたふくらみ部分15にはよく混合されたプラ
スチックの余剰分が包含され、実用上充分な強さのシー
ルが二つの層の間に得られる。帯域13から帯域14に
至る流れが非常に速いので、流動するプラスチック材料
内に生ずる乱流によって互いに対向して位置する二つの
層の間からのプラスチック材料のよい混合が保証され、
したがって表面に存在するいかなる表面酸化物またはそ
の他の不純物(例えば包装内容物の残留物からの)でも
プラスチック内に効果的に混合され、それ故シールの強
さを損うような不純物のいかなる凝集性の膜も残存する
ことがない。
【0012】ある種の充てん物と共に使用するには、よ
り幅広く且つ平たんなふくらみ部分15を得るために溶
融熱可塑性材料の流れを突条部分から更に遠方へ移行す
ることが有利であろう。この手法によれば、前述の実施
例に比べて更に円滑且つ柔軟性のあるシールを達成する
ことが可能である。またこれによって、シールをより強
め、突出を生じて集中応力がかかる部分のないような、
より直線的なシール・エッジが得られる。前述の利点
は、突条9の縦方向の縁の一方が作用面8の加熱領域の
一方の縁と概ね合致し(図4)、それによって突条9に
隣接する加熱領域が突条の他の側の作用面8のレベルよ
り高いレベルに置かれる本発明の第2実施例によって達
成される。本発明の第2実施例の更に特徴とするところ
によれば、加熱区域のレベルと突条9のレベルとの間の
距離は、前記加熱区域と突条9の他の側の作用面8のレ
ベルとの間の距離にほぼ等しく、換言すれば距離aは距
離bとほぼ同等である(図4)。
【0013】本発明による装置の第2実施例が用いられ
る場合には、加熱区域に対する突条9の非対称的な位置
決めにより、溶融熱可塑性材料の流れの絶対的に多くの
部分が突条の加熱される側に向けて指向される。加熱区
域が高い位置(本発明の第1実施例に比べて)にあるこ
とにより、加熱区域の外側に在り従って固体の状態にあ
る熱可塑性の層に到達する前の熱可塑性材料の流れに、
より小さく、より細長い空間が残される。従って突条9
の直前にある高圧帯域から絞り出された熱可塑性材料の
細長いふくらみ、またはたい積部分15は、ふくらみ部
をより柔軟性のあるものとし、シールを更に強力なもの
とする、より平たんで細長い断面形状を与えられる。さ
らに、溶融熱可塑性材料のふくらみ、あるいはたい積部
分15が限定された線状の外見を具えることを保証する
ため、シール帯域13,14の外側に位置する二つのプ
ラスチック積層品の部分を冷却することもできる。これ
は、シール領域の外側に位置して中に液体を通す冷却導
管を2個のジョー5,12に設けるか、あるいは内容物
の外に同時に力を加えて行われる形式のシールの場合、
包装積層材料の隣接部分を内容物で冷却させるか、のい
ずれかによって達成することができる。中央領域13か
ら隣接領域14への溶融熱可塑性材料の効果的な流れを
確保するためには、熱可塑性材料の温度が約130℃を
超えると同時に、シール帯域の線状領域13内の面圧が
約100kg/cm2 となるような力で突条9を包装積層材
料に押し付けなければならない。

  1. 【請求項1】 繊維質材料の支持層(1)の内側にアル
    ミ箔等の導電性材料層(4)を有しさらにその内側に熱
    可塑性材料層(3)を有する一対の積層材料(10、1
    1)を、互いに、その最内層である熱可塑性材料層
    (3、3)間でヒートシールする装置において、該一対
    の積層材料(10、11)の最内層である熱可塑性材料
    層(3、3)どうしが少なくともシール帯域(13、1
    4)間で、互いに接触させられ、さらに該シール帯域
    (13、14)に沿って積層材料の外層側から該一対の
    積層材料(10、11)を押しつけるための作用面
    (8)を有しかつ前記導電性材料層(4)を加熱するた
    めの高周波電源に接続されたシールジョー(5)を有
    し、該シールジョー(5)の作用面(8)には、シール
    帯域(13、14)内で高周波加熱により溶融された熱
    可塑性材料層(3、3)をシール帯域(14)へ押し出
    し堆積させるための突条(9)が設けられていることを
    特徴とする積層材料のヒートシール装置。
  2. 【請求項2】 請求項1に記載の装置において、前記シ
    ールジョー(5)に対向してかつ一対の積層材料(1
    0、11)をはさむように対向ジョー(12)を設けた
    ことを特徴とする積層材料のヒートシール装置。
  3. 【請求項3】 請求項2に記載の装置において、前記シ
    ールジョー(5)および前記対向ジョー(12)の内部
    に、該シールジョー(5)および前記対向ジョー(1
    2)と接触する積層材料を冷却するための冷却導管を設
    けたことを特徴とする積層材料のヒートシール装置。
