Opfindelsen vedrører en fremgangsmåde til varmforsegling af emballagematerialer, omfattende en elektrisk folie og i det mindste et termoplastlag, ved hvilken fremgangsmåde de ydre termoplastlag i hoslig-5 gende emballagematerialer trykkes mod hinanden og opvarmes i en forseglingszone på en sådan måde, at pla-stificeret materiale i de hosliggende termoplastlag strømmer bort fra et begrænset trykområde med højt tryk i forseglingszonen, og ind i tilgrænsende områder med 10 lavere tryk, og hvor strømmen standses uden for de tilgrænsende områder af ikke-smeltet materiale, således at de plastificerede materiale akkumuleres og størkner i det tilgrænsende område. Opfindelsen vedrører også et apparat til udøvelse af fremgangsmåden.
15 Emballagebeholdere af engangstype anvendes f.eks. til mælk og frugtdrikke og fremstilles sædvanligvis af lamineret emballagemateriale. Emballagematerialet omfatter et centralt, forholdsvis stift bærelag af karton, der på begge sider er belagt med tynde lag 20 af homogent plastmateriale. Materialet kan også omfatte lag af aluminiumsfolie eller andre materialer. Fælles for alle emballagelaminater af denne type er, at de udvendigt, i det mindste på den side, der skal vende mod fyldgodset, der skal emballeres, omfatter et lag af 25 termoplastmateriale, sædvanligvis polyethen, der gør det muligt væsketæt at forsegle to mod hinanden lagte dele af laminatet ved hjælp af varme og tryk.
For at forseglingen skal få den ønskede styrke og væsketæthed kræves det, at begge termoplastlag, der 30 forsegles mod hinanden, er rene og fri for forureninger. Hvis det er tilfældet, kan der gennemføres en fuldstændig sammensmeltning af termoplastlagene, hvilket giver en optimal forsegling såvel ud fra et styrkesom et tæthedssynspunkt. Eftersom termoplastlagene på 35 ydersiden sædvanligvis har en tynd oxidbelægning, som opstår i forbindelse med ekstruderingen af termoplast- 2

lagene på emballagelaminatet, hindres en fuldstændig sammensmeltning af termoplastlagene ofte, så at forseglingen ikke får den styrke og tæthed, der teoretisk er mulig. Der kan også forekomme andre typer af forurenin-5 ger på termoplastlagets yderside, f.eks. fyldgodsre-ster, der yderligere forringer forseglingen. Dette er et særligt problem ved den type af emballagetilvirkning, hvor forseglingen af laminatmaterialet sker, medens fyldgodset er til stede, dvs. når fyldgodset først 10 må presses bort fra mellemrummet mellem de mod hinanden anliggende termoplastflader, inden forseglingen finder sted. Fyldgodset presses imidlertid i praksis ikke fuldstændigt bort, men små rester vil blive indlejret i forseglingsområdet, hvilket gør forseglingen svagere.
15 Fra FR patentskrift nr. 2 027 012 er det kendt at varmforsegle emballagematerialer bestående af en aluminiumfolie og et polypropylenlag ved at de presses sammen mellem to varmebakker der opvarmes, således at disses varme overføres ved hjælp af metalfolierne til 20 plastlagene. Da arbejdsfladen af en af varmebakkerne spidser til fra bakkens sider mod dens midte, overføres et højt tryk fra bakken til folien og plastlaget i et midterste område. Plastlagene plastificeres i dette område, og det smeltede materiale føres bort fra området 25 til tilgrænsende områder ved hjælp af kapillærkræfterne i mellemrummet mellem de to metalfolier. Det tynde lag af urenheder fjernes dog ikke i tilstrækkelig grad.
Heller ikke ved tilsvarende fremgangsmåder, der kendes fra US patentskrifterne 3 078 201 og 3 673 041, 30 og hvor der benyttes afrundede arbejdsflader på varme-kæberne, kan disse ulemper undgås.
I FR patentskrift 2 230 484 er ulemperne forsøgt undgået ved at benytte varmekæber, der er opdelt i en midterste opvarmningsdel og to ydre afkølingsdele.

3 af elastisk eftergiveligt materiale såsom gummi. Mellem den midterste del og de ydre dele dannes vulster af plastmateriale, men urenhederne mellem plastlagene hindrer en god forsegling.
5 Med opfindelsen tilsigtes det at tilvejebringe en fremgangsmåde, der gør det muligt at varmeforsegle et emballagelaminat på en sådan måde, at der opnås en bedre og mere holdbar forsegling, selv om emballagelaminatet er belagt med forureninger, f.eks. oxider, 10 fyldgodsrester eller anden forurening.
Dette opnås ifølge opfindelsen ved en fremgangsmåde, der er ejendommelig ved, at der benyttes emballagematerialer, der omfatter et bærelag af fibermateriale, at opvarmningen af emballagematerialerne fremkaldes 15 i de elektriske ledende folier ved hjælp af højfrekvens, og at emballagematerialerne sættes under tryk i området med højt tryk ved hjælp af et fremspring med stort set rektangulært tværsnit.
Det benyttede emballagemateriale omfatter et bæ-20 relag af fibermateriale, såsom papir eller pap. Opvarmningen sker ved elektrisk højfrekvensopvarmning af den elektrisk ledende folie, f.eks. af aluminium. Plastlagene der dækker denne folie opvarmes og plastificeres derfor øjeblikkeligt og hurtigt. Trykket i det centrale 25 trykområde falder, især ved anvendelsen af et stort set rektangulært tværsnit af varmekæben brat mod de tilgrænsende områder, der ikke må opvarmes. Derfor strømmer det plastificerede plastmateriale turbulent ind i de tilstødende områder, hvor det danner vulster, i 30 hvilke urenhederne samles som individuelle partikler i stedet for som en kontinuerlig film. Tværsnittet af bakkens fremspring behøver ikke at være nøjagtigt rektangulært .
Foretrukne udførelsesformer for fremgangsmåden 35 ifølge opfindelsen fremgår af de i underkravene 2 og 3 anførte træk.

Med opfindelsen tilsigtes der endvidere tilvejebragt et apparat til varmeforsegling af emballagelaminater, hvilket apparat ikke er behæftet med tidligere kendte apparaters ulemper, samtidig med at det er en-5 kelt og pålidelig i konstruktionen. Apparatet skal endvidere kunne anvendes i kendte typer af emballagemaskiner samt kunne fremstilles med lave omkostninger.
Dette opnås ifølge opfindelsen med et apparat til varmeforsegling af emballagelaminater omfattende en 10 varmebakke til opvarmning af ydre termoplastlag med henblik på at trykke dem sammen, og som er ejendommeligt ved, at varmebakken har et fremspring med stort set rektangulært tværsnit, som danner en arbejdsflade til overføring af det høje tryk i trykområdet.
15 Emballagematerialerne presses mod hinanden med et meget højt tryk ved hjælp af fremspringet. Eftersom forseglingsbakken omfatter et område, der opvarmer laminatet, og som ikke blot omfatter det linieformede fremspring, men også et tilgrænsende område, vil den 20 opvarmede termoplast med høj hastighed presses fra det linieformede område til det tilgrænsende område, så at der opnås en effektiv blanding og dermed en god forsegling på tidligere beskrevet måde.
Foretrukne udførelsesformer for apparatet ifølge 25 opfindelsen fremgår af de i underkravene 6 og 7 anførte kendetegn.
Opfindelsen forklares nærmere i det følgende ved hjælp af udførelsesformer for fremgangsmåden og apparatet ifølge opfindelsen, og under henvisnig til tegnin-30 gen, hvor fig. 1 i stor målestok viser et tværsnit gennem et emballagelaminat af den type, der kan varmeforsegles ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden og apparatet ifølge opfindelsen, 35 fig. 2 ligeledes i stor skala et tværsnit gennem en forseglingsbakke ifølge opfindelsen, og

s fig. 3 et snit gennem to emballagelaminater i henhold til fig. 1, hvilke laminater varmeforsegles ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden og apparatet ifølge opfindelsen.
5 Det i fig. 1 viste emballagelaminat er af en ty pe, der anvendes ved emballering af mælk og andre drikkevarer . Emballagelaminatet har en total tykkelse på 0,04-0,5 mm og omfatter et centralt bærelag 1 af fibermateriale, hvilket lag 1 på begge sider ér omgivet 10 af forholdsvis tynde, homogene lag 2 og 3 af termo-plastmateriale, fortrinsvis polyethen. Mellem det ene ydre plastlag 3 og bærelaget 1 findes der ofte et yderligere lag 4 af aluminiumfolie, hvilket lag ved hjælp af termoplast (ikke vist) er forbundet med bære-15 laget samt fuldstændig dækket af det ydre, homogene lag 3. På grund af de to ydre termoplastlag 2 og 3 kan emballagelaminatet på enkel måde varmeforsegles ved, at de dele, der skal forsegles sammen, trykkes mod hinanden med samtidig opvarmning af termoplasten til dettes 20 smeltetemperatur. Det er naturligvis muligt at forsegle emballagelaminater af andre typer ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden og apparatet ifølge opfindelsen.
Fig. 2 viser et tværsnit gennem en forseglingsbakke 5 i apparatet ifølge opfindelsen. Forseglings-25 bakken 5 omfatter en hoveddel 6, som er fremstillet af et elektrisk ikke-ledende materiale, og som på sin ene sideflade har et spor, hvori en skinne 7 af et elektrisk ledende materiale, fortrinsvis kobber, er indfældet. Skinnen 7, der er centralt beliggende i ho-30 veddelens ene sideflade danner sammen med hoveddelen 6's omgivende dele forseglingsbakken 5's arbejdsflade 8. Arbejdsfladen 8 udviser et i skinnen 7 udformet, linieformet fremspring 9. Fremspringet 9 har hovedsageligt rektangulært tværsnit samt en højde, der andra-35 ger 0,2-0,4 gange laminatets tykkelse, dog fortrinsvis 0,5 gange laminatets tykkelse, samt en bredde, der i

6 hovedsagen er lig med emballagelaminatets tykkelse. Ar-bejdsfladen 8 på forseglingsbakken 5 omfatter således et centralt beliggende område, der er indrettet til at opvarme laminatet, og som dels omfatter det linie-5 formede fremspring 9, dels mindst et tilgrænsende område ved siden af fremspringet. Området, der er indrettet til at opvarme laminatet, er via materialet i skinnen 7 indrettet til at forbindes med en strømkilde, der kan være af højfrekvent type til muliggørelse af 10 højfrekvenssvejsning af laminatet.
Forseglingsbakken ifølge opfindelsen kan inden for opfindelsestanken modificeres på forskellig måde for at modsvare de krav, som forsegling af forskellige materialer og forskellige typer af emballagebeholdere 15 stiller. Typiske sådanne modificeringer kan være, at forseglingsbakken forsynes med en eller flere kanaler til et kølende medium, f.eks. vand, der hindrer skadelige temperaturforøgelser eller uønsket spredning af varme til tilgrænsende områder, der skal forblive 20 uopvarmede. Det er også muligt at udforme forseglingsbakken i flere, indbyrdes bevægelige dele. Eksempelvis kan de på begge sider af fremspringet 9 beliggende dele af forseglingsbakken udføres bevægelige i forhold til fremspringet 9 og fjederbelastes i retning mod 25 materialet, så at et passende anlægstryk automatisk fremkommer. Forseglingsbakken kan også være dobbelt, dvs. omfatte to i afstand fra hinanden anbragte hoveddele . af den beskrevne type. Denne udførelsesform er særlig egnet, hvor et emballagematerialerør skal for-30 segles i to tværgående zoner og afskæres mellem disse, eftersom en kniv eller et andet passende skæreorgan da kan arbejde i mellemrummet mellem forseglingsbakkens to hoveddele.
Fig. 3 illustrerer forseglingsforløbet ved for-35 segling af to emballagelaminater ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden og apparatet ifølge opfindelsen. To emballa- 7

gelaminater 10 og 11 (eller to dele af samme foldede emballagelaminat) er som forberedelse til forseglingen ført sammen således, at de ligger an mod hinanden med deres udvendige termoplastlag 3. Emballagelaminaterne 5 presses mod hinanden ved hjælp af en forseglingsbakke 5 og en med denne samvirkende, på modsatte side af emballagelaminaterne liggende modbakke 12 (angivet med stiplede linier). Forseglingsbakken 5 er af den type, der er vist i fig. 2, medens modbakken 12 har en mod 10 laminatet 11 liggende, plan arbejdsflade. Bakkerne 5 og 12 er ophængt således i emballagemaskinens stativ, at de ved hjælp af hydrauliske eller mekaniske drivorganer kan forskydes frem og tilbage således, at de under forseglingen kan presses mod hinanden med en vis, 15 indstillelig kraft. Samtidig med at bakkerne flyttes mod hinanden og begynder at presse de mellemliggende emballagelaminater 10 og 11 sammen, forbindes forseglingsbakkens skinne 7 med en højfrekvent strømkilde.
Herved induceres der et vekselfelt i emballagelamina-20 ternes aluminiumlag 4, så at disse inden for et til skinnen 7's overflade svarende område opvarmes til en temperatur, der er væsentlig højere end smeltetemperaturen for det hosliggende termoplastlag. Den fremkaldte varme ledes umiddelbart over til de to mellem alumini-25 umlagene liggende termoplastlag 3, så at disse smelter og bliver flydende. På grund af den høje kraft (ca. 100 kp/cm2), med hvilken emballagelaminaterne presses mod hinanden ud for fremspringet 9, vil smeltet termo-plastmateriale flyde eller strømme fra området 13 med 30 højt tryk til de tilgrænsende dele 14 i den samlede forseglingszone 13, 14. Eftersom termoplastlagene 3, der ligger mod hinanden i området uden for forseglingszonen 13 og 14, stadig befinder sig i fast tilstand og presses mod hinanden, kan den smeltede termoplast ikke 35 flyde videre uden for forseglingszonen, men forbliver i de to med henvisningsbetegnelsen 14 angivne områder, 8

hvor termoplasten gennem komprimering af bærelagsmaterialet former vulster 15, der forløber parallelt med det langagtige trykområde 13, hvori termoplast fra de to mod hinanden forseglede lag er blandet. I området 5 13 bliver der kun ubetydelige mængder plastmateriale tilbage, som på grund af fladernes ujævnhed ikke har kunnet fortrænges, medens vulsterne 15, der er dannet på begge sider af området, indeholder et overskud af godt blandet plast, som sikrer en meget stærk og i 10 praksis ubrydelig forsegling mellem de to lag. Eftersom strømmen fra området 13 til området 14 er så hurtig, opstår der turbulens i den strømmende plast, hvilket sikrer, at plasten fra de to mod hinanden liggende lag blandes godt, så at eventuelt overfladeoxidation 15 eller andre på ydersiden værende forureninger (f.eks. fra tilbageværende fyldgodsrester) blandes effektivt med plasten, så at der ikke bliver nogen sammenhængende hinde af forureninger tilbage, som kunne forringe forseglingsstyrken .
20 For yderligere at sikre, at vulsterne eller an samlingerne 15 af smeltet termoplast får et begrænset, linieformet udseende, kan de uden for forseglingszonerne 13 og 14 værende dele af de to plastlaminater afkøles. Dette kan enten ske ved, at de to bakker 5 og 25 12 forsynes med uden for forseglingsområdet liggende, væskegennemstrømmende kølekanaler eller ved, at fyldgodset ved den type af forsegling, der sker under samtidig fortrængning af fyldgodset, får lejlighed til at køle tilgrænsende dele af emballagelaminaterne.
30 For at sikre en effektiv strømning af smeltet termoplast fra det centrale område 13 til de hosliggende områder 14, må trykket fra fremspringet 9 mod emballagelaminaterne ske med en sådan styrke, at overfladetrykket i forseglingszonens linieformede område 35 13 kommer op på ca. 100 kp/cma, samtidig med at termo plastens temperatur bør overstige ca. 130°C.
Claims (7)
1. Fremgangsmåde til varmforsegling af emballagematerialer omfattende en elektrisk ledende folie (4) og i det mindste et termoplastlag (2, 3), ved hvilken fremgangsmåde de ydre termoplastlag (3) i hosliggende 5 emballagematerialer (10, 11) trykkes mod hinanden og opvarmes i en forseglingszone på en sådan måde, at pla-stificeret materiale i de hosliggende termoplastlag (3.) strømmer bort fra et begrænset trykområde (13) med høj-t tryk i forseglingszonen og ind i tilgrænsende områder 10 (i4) med lavere tryk, og hvor strømmen standses uden for de tilgrænsende områder (14) af ikke-smeltet materiale, således at det plastificerede materiale akkumuleres og størkner i det tilgrænsende område, kendetegnet ved, at der benyttes emballagemateria-15 ler (10, 11), der omfatter et bærelag (1) af fibermateriale, at opvarmningen af emballagematerialerne (10, 11. fremkaldes i de elektriske ledende folier (4) ved hjælp af højfrekvens, og at emballagematerialerne (10, 11. sættes under tryk i området (13) med højt tryk ved 20 hjælp af et fremspring (9) med stort set rektangulært tværsnit.
2. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at de ydre termoplastlag (3) afkøles uden for forseglingszonens tilgrænsende område (14).
3. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav l eller 2, ken detegnet ved, at emballagematerialerne (10, 11) sammentrykkes uden for forseglingszonens tilgrænsende område (14).
4. Apparat til udøvelse af fremgangsmåden ifølge 30 krav 1-3, hvilket apparat omfatter en varmebakke (7) til opvarmning af ydre termoplastlag (3) med henblik på at trykke dem sammen, kendetegnet ved, at varmebakken (7) har et fremspring (9) med stort set DK 158502B rektangulært tværsnit, som danner en arbejdsflade til overføring af det høje tryk i trykområdet (13).
5. Apparat ifølge krav 4, kendetegnet ved, at fremspringets (9) bredde (b) stort set er lig 5 med tykkelsen af emballagematerialet (10, 11), og at fremspringets (9) højde (h) er mellem 0,2 og 0,8 gange tykkelsen af emballagematerialet (10, 11).
6. Apparat ifølge krav 4 eller 5, kendetegnet ved, at varmebakken er en skinne (7) af 10 elektrisk ledende materiale indsat i et spor i en forseglingsbakkes (5) hoveddel (6), hvilken hoveddel (6) består af elektrisk ikke-ledende materiale, og danner ydre arbejdsflader uden for det tilgrænsende område (14).
7. Apparat ifølge krav 6, kendetegnet ved, at hoveddelens (6) ydre arbejdsflader danner køleflader .
