【発明の詳細な説明】 発明の背景 〔発明の分野〕 本発明は吸収性物品に関する。更に詳細には、
本発明は体液を吸収しかつ保持するのに使用され
る物品、例えばオムツ（特に使い捨てオムツ）、
衛生ナプキン、失禁パツド、外科用包帯類等に関
する。
〔背景技術の説明〕
体液を吸収するのに使用される物品は、商業上
普通のものである。例えば、体接触表面、吸収性
芯、および一般に不透過性のバツクシートを有す
る使い捨てオムツ、衛生ナプキン等は現代の消費
者に周知である。
研究が集中されている１つの領域は、吸収性物
品の体接触表面の領域である。この表面は感触が
柔軟であり、皮膚に刺激を与えず、そして体液が
迅速にその中を通つて物品の吸収性芯に通過する
程度に体液に対して透過性でなければならない。
各種の体接触表面が提案されている。例えば、米
国特許第4077410号明細書は、熱可塑性重合体の
発泡溶融物を押し出し、次いで熱延伸して、得ら
れる繊維を分子配向し３以下の平均デニールおよ
び一般に約0.05〜約0.15ｇ／c.c.の嵩密度を有する
分子配向繊維エレメントの体接触表面を形成でき
ることを示唆している。米国特許第3695269号明
細書は、体接触シートを約１〜約15デニール、好
ましくは約1.25〜約３デニールの非吸収性繊維か
ら製造できることを示唆しており、前記繊維はウ
エブとされ、通常の結合剤物質で結合されて布織
布とされ、次いで通常の機械懸架装置で嵩高にさ
れる。
発明の要約 本発明は、改善された体接触表面を有する吸収
性物質に関する。本発明の吸収性物品は、４種の
エレメント、即ち流体透過性上ばりエレメント、
流体透過性支持エレメント、吸収性芯、および不
透過性バツクシートからなる。吸収性芯およびバ
ツクシートは当該技術分野で周知の通常の材料の
いずれでもよい。支持エレメントは、流体透過性
シート、例えば不織ポリエステルまたはモノフイ
ラメントスクリム（scrim）である。上ばりエレ
メント（facing element）は、結合されてない
熱可塑性繊維の低密度高嵩高ウエブである。
発明の具体的説明 本発明の吸収性物品は、４種のエレメント、即
ち流体透過性上ばりエレメント、流体透過性支持
エレメント、吸収性芯、および流体不透過性バツ
クシートからなる。各エレメントは一方を他方の
上に重ねられて吸収性物品を形成する。第２図
は、４種のエレメントを吸収性物品に配置した際
の４種のエレメントの相対的位置を一般に示す。
第２図において、吸収性物品は一般に10によつ
て示され、上ばりエレメントは１によつて示さ
れ、支持エレメントは２によつて示され、吸収性
芯は３によつて示され、そしてバツクシートは４
によつて示される。上ばりエレメント１は支持エ
レメント２上に重ねられ、そして後述のように支
持エレメント２に貼着される。支持エレメント２
は吸収性芯３上に重ねなれる。吸収性芯３はバツ
クシート４上に重ねられる。
第１図は、各部分組合わせ後の吸収性物品１０
の一部分を示す。上ばりエレメント１は、離間し
ている結合領域５によつて支持エレメント２に貼
着される（第１図においては、離間しているこれ
らの結合領域５は結合形成正方形の線のネツトワ
ークとして表わされる。これは離間している結合
領域５の好ましい配置であるが、唯一の有用な配
置ではない）。上ばりエレメント１と支持エレメ
ント２との組立体は、次いで吸収性芯３およびバ
ツクシート４の上に重ねられる。全体の吸収性物
品構造物は、その所期用途用に適当な好都合な手
段によつて一体化される。
上ばりエレメント１は、合成熱可塑性繊維から
なる。これらの繊維は弾性であり、そして好まし
くは疎水性である。商業上入手可能なポリオレフ
インを使用するのが好都合であり、特にポリエス
テル繊維が好ましい。本発明で有用な他の繊維
は、例えばポリアクリルアミド、ポリスチレン、
ポリ塩化ビニル、ポリアミド、ポリ塩化ビニリデ
ン等から形成されるものである。吸収性物品は入
間の皮膚と接触させて使用されようとするので、
使用者の心地良さのために繊維が約６デニール
（直径0.0185mm）〜約12デニール（0.037mm）であ
ることが好ましいが、約３デニール程度の細い繊
維および約15デニール程度またはそれ以上の太い
繊維も使用できる。６デニールの繊維が全く好適
であり、そして好ましい。
上ばりエレメント１の製造においては、繊維は
長ければ長いほど上ばりエレメント１を支持エレ
メント２に貼着するのに必要なボンドの数は少な
くなるので、繊維はできるだけ長いことが好まし
い。そして、離間している結合領域は体液に対し
て一般に不透過性であるので、ボンドが少なけれ
ば少ないほど上ばりエレメント１と支持エレメン
ト２との組み合わせはより流体透過性となる。約
７cm〜約21cmの非捲縮長（uncrimped longth）
を有する捲縮繊維は好適であり、そして好まし
い。これらの捲縮繊維は通常それらの非捲縮長の
約60％の捲縮長を有する。トウ（捲縮長繊維また
は非捲縮長繊維の束）も本発明において使用でき
る。
この点について詳しく説明すれば、繊維産業で
は、ポリエステル、ナイロン等の合成繊維は通常
ごく多数の小さな孔を有する装置を通して溶融又
は化学的に溶解した樹脂を引張ることによつてつ
くられる。スピナレツト（spinnerette）と呼ば
れるこの装置は溶融物又は溶液から連続的な長い
繊維の被膜を形成する。これらが通常つくられる
ときその繊維は真直ぐである。この繊維を「ト
ウ」と呼ばれる相当メートルの非常に長い長さを
有する個々の繊維の束にすることができる。繊維
はスプール状にも巻くことができる。他の場合、
これらの繊維は短く切断される（ステープル長と
呼ばれる）。繊維をステープル長に切断するとき、
繊維を「捲縮」することによつて繊維「束」の嵩
を増すことがしばしば望ましい。捲縮は個々の繊
維を折つたり、曲げたり、ねじつたりしてもはや
真直ぐにならないようにすることである。これは
機械的に行なうことができ、又は繊維生成法の間
に繊維溶融物又は溶液中の条件とスピナレツトを
適当に制御することによつて行なわれる。捲縮さ
れた繊維の繊維長は二つの方法で測定される。即
ち、捲縮された繊維長として測定されるか、又は
繊維真直ぐ引張つて測定する。明らかに、一定の
繊維では、捲縮繊維長は非捲縮（真直ぐ引張られ
た）繊維長よりも短い。繊維の捲縮長さは非捲縮
（真直ぐ引張られた）長の約60％が通常である。
本発明では繊維の長さは非捲縮長として表わされ
る。これは定数であり、繊維に与えられる捲縮の
程度（又はその量）に関係なく繊維の長さを表わ
す。
上ばりエレメント１は、前記繊維のウエブであ
る。本明細書において「ウエブ」なる用語は繊維
のカード化または絡み合つたネツトワークを意味
する。本発明の実施において使用するのに好適な
カードウエブは、実質上一方向に整列された繊維
を有することができるが、織り混ぜたウエブまた
は交差式ウエブを使用できる。通常のカード機を
使用して、これらのウエブを製造できる。本発明
で有用な非カードウエブの列は、空気気流方式ウ
エブおよびランド・マシーン・コーポレーシヨン
によつて市販されている装置を使用する周知のラ
ンドウエブ法によつて作られるウエブである。
ウエブは、化学結合剤、ラテツクス結合剤等を
使用せずに形成されるべきである。
ここに織り混ぜた（inter−woven）ウエブと
は布（cloth）のような織られた構造を有する又
はそれに似ている繊維で構成されたウエブを言
う。又交差式（cross−lapped）ウエブについて
言えば、カードウエブ状繊維そしてある程度ラン
ドウエバー機で処理されたウエブはカード又はラ
ンドウエバーの機械方向にその長さを配向させて
いる（カードウエブでは繊維は非常に配向してい
る）。一定厚みのウエブをつくるためにはしばし
ば数層のカードウエブを用いることが必要であ
る。もし次々にあらわれるウエブ層を互いにある
角度でその繊維を配向させているならば次々に存
在する層の繊維をすべて同じ方向に配向させてい
るものに対してそのウエブを「交差式」と呼ぶ。
ウエブ層間の配向角度は各層をどのように重なる
せるかに応じて90°又はそれより小さくすること
ができる。
支持エレメント２に結合させる前の上ばりエレ
メント１は、約５〜約50ｇ／m2の坪量および約
0.0002〜約0.02ｇ／c.c.の密度を有しているべきで
ある。
上ばりエレメント１は、本来余りに弱くて単独
では使用できない。上ばりエレメント１を好適な
支持エレメントに貼着しなければならない。支持
エレメント２は、体液に対して透過性であり、か
つ上ばりエレメント１および吸収性芯３と適合す
る限り、如何なる好適な平らな材料であることも
できる。第２図においては、支持エレメント２は
多少連続フイラメント、例えばモノフイラメント
のスクリムまたは開口ネツトワークとして図示さ
れている。例えば、熱可塑性重合体で被覆された
ナイロンフイラメントのスクリムを有利に使用で
きる。スクリムが自由に流体透過性であり、上ば
りエレメント１に貼着でき、そして実用的な用途
用に適当な強度を有する限り、スクリムの正確な
パラメーターは重要ではない。
ここにスクリムとは個々の繊維又は糸が薄く
（しばしばモノフイラメント）、ウエブ中の隣接し
ている糸が、比較的遠く離れている、織られた又
は織られていないウエブである。第２図の符号２
がスクリムの良好な図である。また、窓スクリー
ン（又は同様なスクリーン）のパターン状の薄い
糸（又はフイラメント）でつくられたウエブがス
クリムと認められる。
スクリムは、支持エレメント２用に使用できる
唯一の材料ではない。不織布、例えば使い捨てオ
ムツ内でトツプシートとして使用されるものも支
持エレメント２として用途を見い出す。これらの
材料は、前記の物理的性質を有していなければな
らない。
好ましい支持エレメントは、イー・アイ・デユ
ポン・ド・ヌムス・エンド・カンパニーによつて
登録商標名リーメイ（Reemay）で販売されてい
るポリエステル布帛である。この材料は、約20
ｇ／m2の坪量を有し、そして厚さ約0.2mmである。
上ばりエレメント１および支持エレメント２
は、離間している結合領域におけるボンドによつ
て互いに貼着（一体化）されなければならない。
上ばりエレメント１と支持エレメント２との組み
合わせは体液に対して透過性でなければならない
ので、２種のエレメントを一体化するのに使用さ
れる技術は流体の通過を過度に妨げないように注
意深く選択されなければならい。化学接着剤（例
えば、ホツトメルト接着剤）を使用できるが、２
種のエレメントを熱結合、例えば通常のヒートシ
ーラーのインパルス加熱により与えられるものに
よつて一体化させることが好ましい。
離間している結合領域は好都合なパターン、例
えば線またはスポツトであることができる。第１
図においては、離間している結合領域５は直線で
囲まれた有用なパターンで示される。ここに有用
なパターンとはこの吸収性物品の最終用途に対し
て有用性を有するパターン（又は結合様式）を言
う。おむつに用いるときにはそれに有用な多くの
パターンがあるが、しかしその中には生理用ナプ
キン等に有用でないものもありうる。離間した好
ましい結合領域のパターンは一辺が約2.5cmの正
方形のものである。離間している結合領域によつ
て占められる全面積は、吸収性物品の全面積の約
45％を越えるべきではない。
吸収性芯３は、体液を吸収しかつ保持する如何
なる好都合な材料であることもできる。例えば、
紙錦および乾式抄造粉砕木材パルプ繊維、例えば
使い捨てオムツでしばしば使用されるものが全く
好適である。当然、吸収性芯は、吸収性物品の使
用時に遭遇すると思われる体液の種類および量に
対して十分な吸収能力を有していなければならな
い。
吸収性物品を使い捨てオムツとして使用する場
合、吸収性芯は乾式抄造粉砕木材パルプ繊維であ
ることができ、そして約20〜約2000ｇ／m2の坪量
および約0.01〜約1.0ｇ／c.c.の密度を有すること
ができる。
使用できる他の吸収性芯は米国再発行特許第
265151号明細書に記載されている。なお他の好適
な吸収性芯は米国特許第3860003号明細書に示さ
れている。
バツクシート４は、吸収性物品に通常使用され
る如何なる流体不透過性材料であることもでき
る。例えば、厚さ約0.01〜約0.035mmのポリエチ
レン等の熱可塑性フイルムが全く好適である。吸
収性物品を使い捨てオムツとして使用すべき場合
には、前記米国再発行特許第26151号明細書およ
び米国特許第3860003号明細書に記載のバツクシ
ートを使用できる。なお他の好適なバツクシート
は、例えば米国特許第3881489号明細書および米
国特許第3989867号明細書に記載の通気性オムツ
バツクシートである。
本発明の吸収性物品を構成する４種のエレメン
トは、所期用途用に好都合な大きさおよび形状に
作られる。すべてのエレメントは同一の大きさお
よび形状を有することができるが、最終用途がそ
うでないことを指図するならば同一である必要は
ない。
本発明の吸収性物品を形成するために、上ばり
エレメント１を支持エレメント２上に重ね、そし
て２種のエレメントを前記のように一方を他方に
貼着する。これらの２種のエレメントを吸収性芯
３に重ね、そしてこれらをバツクシート４上に重
ねる。重ねられた４種のエレメントを好都合な手
段、例えば吸収性物品の境界の回りに置かれた通
常のホツトメルト接着剤による結合によつて一体
化させて単一の物品とすることができる。
別の接合法においては、バツクシート４は他の
エレメントよりも大きく、そして少なくとも２つ
の境界に沿つて他のエレメント上に折り重ねら
れ、かつ他のエレメントの回りに折り重ねられ、
そして接着剤によつて所定位置に固着される。
ここまでは、本発明の物品は、その特定の所期
最終用途を願慮せずに一般的な方式で記載されて
いる。前記の４種のエレメントからなるこれらの
吸収性物品を各種の手段によつて各種の有用な物
品とすることができる。例えば、前記米国再発行
特許第26151号明細書および米国特許第3860003号
明細書の教示を使用して本発明の吸収性物品の使
い捨てオムツを作ることができる。
限定するわけではないが、本発明をより十分に
説明するために、以下の例を示す。
例 15ｇ／m2の坪量および0.002ｇ／c.c.の密度を有
するカードウエブを通常のカード機において６デ
ニールで15.2cmのポリエステル長繊維から作つ
た。このウエブ30.5cm×40.6cmを上ばりエレメン
トとして使用し、そして30.5cm×45.7cmの支持エ
レメントに熱結合させた。支持エレメントは前記
のリーメイポリエステル布帛であつた。結合は、
離間している結合領域を約５秒で約230℃に加熱
することによつて達成された。離間している結合
領域は、一辺が約2.5cmの正方形を形成する幅約
1.6mmの線状であつた。約0.1ｇ／c.c.の密度を有す
る約30.5cm×40.6cm×0.25cm（厚さ）の吸収性芯
を乾式粉砕木材パルプ繊維から作つた。吸収性芯
をペーパーテイシユの場合によつて設けられる通
常のエンベロープ（envelopu）で囲んだ。上ば
りエレメントおよび支持エレメントからなる組合
わせ体を、組合わせ体の支持エレメント部分を吸
収性芯に隣接させつつ吸収性芯の一面上の中心に
置きかつ重ねた。組合わせ体の縦方向にのびる部
分を吸収性芯の回りに折り重ね、そして吸収性芯
の反対側に接着的に固着させた。次いで、上ばり
エレメント、支持エレメントおよび吸収性芯から
なる組合わせ体を厚さ0.025mmのエンボシングし
たポリエチレンバツクシート上に重ね、かつ中心
に置いた。約38cm×48cmであるこのバツクシート
は、エンボシング後約0.72mmの見掛け厚さを有し
ていた。バツクシートを接合した上ばりエレメン
ト、支持エレメントおよび吸収性芯の回りに折り
重ね、そしてその側縁に沿つて上ばりエレメント
表面および吸収性芯１に接着的に貼着させた。次
いで、物品を折り重ねて通常の使い捨てオムツと
した。得られた使い捨てオムツはそれらの所期用
途用に満足であつた。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 上ばりエレメント１、流体透過性支持エレメ
    ント２、吸収性パツド３および不透過性バツクシ
    ート４からなり、前記上ばりエレメント１は熱可
    塑性繊維の結合されていない流体透過性ウエブか
    らなり、前記繊維は約３〜約15デニールであり、
    前記ウエブは約0.0002〜約0.02ｇ／c.c.の密度を有
    し、前記上ばりエレメント１は離間している結合
    領域５において前記支持エレメント２に貼着され
    て組合わせ体を形成し、そして前記組合わせ体は
    前記バツクシート４上に重ねられる前記吸収性パ
    ツド３上に重ねられることを特徴とする吸収性物
    品。 ２ 前記繊維がポリエステル繊維である特許請求
    の範囲第１項に記載の吸収性物品。 ３ 前記上ばりエレメント１が熱結合によつて前
    記支持エレメント２に貼着される特許請求の範囲
    第１項または第２項に記載の吸収性物品。
