前記第一セルに前記隔壁を挟んで隣接し、前記第一端面において封止され、前記第二端面において開口する第二セルと、を含み、
前記構造体が、
前記第一端面と前記第一端面から前記複数のセルの延伸方向に沿って第一距離を隔てた第一位置との間の第一領域と、
前記第一位置と前記第一位置から前記第二端面に向かって前記複数のセルの延伸方向に沿って第二距離を隔てた第二位置との間の第二領域と、
前記第二位置と前記第二端面との間の第三領域と、を含み、
前記第一領域において、前記第一触媒が前記隔壁の前記第一セル側の表面に配置され、前記第一触媒が配置された前記隔壁がガス非透過性であり、
前記第二領域において、前記第一触媒が配置されず、前記第二触媒が前記隔壁の内部の前記第一セルに面する部分を少なくとも含む領域に配置され、前記第二触媒が配置された前記隔壁がガス透過性であり、
前記第三領域において、前記第一触媒と前記第二触媒のいずれも配置されず、前記隔壁がガス透過性である構造体が提供される。
基材10は、円筒状の枠部11と、枠部の内側の空間をハニカム状に仕切る隔壁12から構成される。枠部11と隔壁12は一体的に形成されていてよい。図1の枠部11は、円筒状であるが、これに限定されず、楕円筒状、多角筒状等の任意の形状であってよい。隔壁12は、基材10の第一端面Iと第二端面Jの間に延設され、第一端面Iと第二端面Jの間で延伸する複数のセルを画成する。複数のセルは、第一セル14及び第二セル16から構成される。第一セル14は、第一端面Iにおいて開口し、第二端面Jにおいて封止部70により目封じ(封止)されている。第二セル16は第一端面Iにおいて封止部70により目封じされ、第二端面Jにおいて開口している。第一セル14と第二セル16は、隔壁12を挟んで互いに隣接するように配置される。第一セル14と第二セル16の延伸方向に直交する面で切断した断面形状は、正方形であってよいが、それに限定されず、それぞれ、平行四辺形、長方形、台形などの矩形、三角形、その他の多角形(例えば、六角形、八角形)、円形等の種々の幾何学形状であってよい。
第一触媒30は、第一領域Xにおいて、隔壁12の入側セル14側の表面12aに配置される。図2に示す実施形態では、第一領域Xにおいて、隔壁12の入側セル14側の表面12aに、第一触媒30を含む層(第一触媒層)32が設けられている。
図2に示す実施形態では、第二触媒50は、第一領域X及び第二領域Yにおいて、隔壁12の内部に配置される。なお、第一領域Xに配置される第二触媒50は必須ではない。第二触媒50は、隔壁12の、入側セル14に面する部分を少なくとも含む領域に配置される。なお、図2において、隔壁12の入側セル14側の表面12aの近傍の領域のみに第二触媒50が配置されているが、それに限定されず、出側セル16側の表面12bの近傍の領域にも第二触媒50が配置されてもよい。第二触媒50は、隔壁12の内部の細孔の全てを閉塞することなく、細孔を取り囲む隔壁12の表面(内表面)に配置される。そのため、第二領域Yにおいて、隔壁12はガス透過性である。
Claims (3)
- 第一端面及び第二端面を有する基材、第一触媒、及び第二触媒を有する構造体であって、
前記基材が、前記第一端面と前記第二端面の間で延伸する複数のセルを画成する多孔質の隔壁を有し、
前記複数のセルが、
前記第一端面において開口し、前記第二端面において封止された第一セルと、
前記第一セルに前記隔壁を挟んで隣接し、前記第一端面において封止され、前記第二端面において開口する第二セルと、を含み、
前記構造体が、
前記第一端面と前記第一端面から前記複数のセルの延伸方向に沿って第一距離を隔てた第一位置との間の第一領域と、
前記第一位置と前記第一位置から前記第二端面に向かって前記複数のセルの延伸方向に沿って第二距離を隔てた第二位置との間の第二領域と、
前記第二位置と前記第二端面との間の第三領域と、を含み、
前記第一領域において、前記第一触媒が前記隔壁の前記第一セル側の表面に配置され、前記第一触媒が配置された前記隔壁がガス非透過性であり、
前記第二領域において、前記第一触媒が配置されず、前記第二触媒が前記隔壁の内部の前記第一セルに面する部分を少なくとも含む領域に配置され、前記第二触媒が配置された前記隔壁がガス透過性であり、
前記第三領域において、前記第一触媒と前記第二触媒のいずれも配置されず、前記隔壁がガス透過性である、構造体。 - 前記第一領域において、前記第二触媒が前記隔壁の内部の前記第一セルに面する部分を少なくとも含む領域に配置される、請求項1に記載の構造体。
- 請求項1又は2に記載の構造体を備える排ガス浄化装置。
