Description

まず、前記偏光解消領域を形成するステップにおいて、各構成要素をみると、脱色溶液は、必須として脱色剤および溶媒を含む。

IO3 −+I5 −+6H+→3I2+3H2O
I3 −→I−+I2
B(OH)3+3KOH→K3BO3+3H2O
この時、前記脱色溶液を接触させる時間(y)は、偏光解消領域の単体透過度が90%以上になるのにかかる時間を意味し、以下では「脱色完了時間」と表現する。

ポリビニルアルコール系フィルム(日本合成社、M3000 grade30μm)を、25℃の純水溶液で膨潤工程を15秒間経た後、0.2wt%の濃度および25℃のヨウ素溶液で60秒間染着工程を進行させた。以後、ホウ酸1wt%、45℃の溶液で30秒間洗浄工程を経た後、ホウ酸2.5wt%、52℃の溶液で6倍延伸工程を進行させた。延伸後、5wt%のKI溶液で補色工程を経た後、60℃のオーブンで5分間乾燥させることにより、厚さ12μmの偏光子を製造した。
脱色剤、溶媒および増粘剤を、下記の表1に記載された種類および含有量で脱色溶液を用意する。次に、前記製造例により製造された偏光子に、前記脱色溶液を、ディスペンサを用いて3cm2の領域に塗布した。以後、35秒経過後、エタノールを用いて3秒間浸漬させ、60℃のオーブンで30秒間エタノールを乾燥させて、偏光解消領域を含む偏光子を製造した。
脱色剤、溶媒および増粘剤を、下記の表1に記載された種類および含有量で脱色溶液を用意し、実施例1と同様の方法で偏光子を製造した。
前記製造例により製造された偏光子を60mm×60mmに裁断した後、レーザ(Verdi V2、MBD resonator、Coherent社)を用いて、266nmの波長、0.6W/cm2の強度で10分間露光して、偏光解消領域を形成した偏光子を製造した。
前記製造例により製造された偏光子を60mm×60mmに裁断した後、偏光板裁断用パンチング機を用いて、3cm2の領域の偏光子を除去した。
前記実施例および比較例により製造された偏光子を40mm×40mmの大きさに切って、この試験片を測定ホルダに固定させた後、紫外可視光線分光計(V−7100、JASCO社製造)を用いて、偏光解消領域の初期光学物性、すなわち、単体透過度、偏光度を測定した。特に、550nmにおける値を表1に表示した。
偏光子において、偏光解消領域のヨウ素および/または二色性染料の含有量は、光X線分析装置[理学電気工業(株)製造、商品名「ZSX Primus II」]を用いて測定した。この時、前記実施例および比較例により製造された厚さが12μmの偏光子シート(sheet)形態の試料を4枚重ねて、20mmのholderに装着した後、Iodine KAの蛍光強度を測定した。計3回を測定して出された19.2mm3体積あたりの重量%の平均を、下記の表1に表示した。
前記実施例1〜7および比較例1〜5により製造された偏光子を、光学プロファイラ(Nanoview E1000、ナノシステム社)5倍レンズを用いて、前記偏光解消領域と偏光解消領域を除いた領域との間に形成された段差を測定した。
Claims (3)
- ヨウ素および二色性染料のうちのいずれか1つ以上が染着したポリビニルアルコール系偏光子を用意するステップと、
前記偏光子の一部領域に、脱色剤を含む脱色溶液を局地的に接触させて、400nm〜800nmの波長帯域における単体透過度が90%以上100%未満の偏光解消領域を形成するステップと、
前記偏光解消領域を形成するステップの後に、アルコールを用いて洗浄するステップと、を含み、
前記偏光子の一部領域に脱色溶液を接触させることによって偏光解消領域を形成するステップは、ディスペンサ、インクジェット、またはグラビアプリンティング方法によって行われ、
前記脱色溶液は、粘度が1cP〜55cPであり、
前記脱色剤は、水酸化ナトリウム(NaOH)、硫化水素ナトリウム(NaSH)、アジ化ナトリウム(NaN3)、水酸化カリウム(KOH)、硫化水素カリウム(KSH)、およびチオ硫酸カリウム(KS2O3)からなる群より選択されたいずれか1つ以上を含み、
前記脱色溶液は、全体溶液に対して、
脱色剤5重量%〜15重量%;
増粘剤2.5重量%〜15重量%;および
残部の水を含み、
脱色完了時間が16〜45秒であり、
前記脱色完了時間は、偏光解消領域の単体透過度が90%以上になるのにかかる時間を意味する、ことを特徴とする、偏光子の製造方法。 - 前記脱色溶液は、pHが11〜14であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の偏光子の製造方法。
- 前記増粘剤は、ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂、ポリビニルアセトアセテート系樹脂、アセトアセチル基変性ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂、ブテンジオールビニルアルコール系、ポリエチレングリコール系樹脂、およびポリアクリルアミド系樹脂からなる群より選択されたいずれか1つ以上を含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の偏光子の製造方法。
