Claims (26)
- 互いに離間して配置された複数の浸透性電極本体を含む燃料極と,
前記燃料極から離間している酸化剤極と,
(a)酸化剤極,(b)前記燃料極及び前記酸化剤極から離間している第3の電極,及び(c)前記燃料極の一部分から成る群より選択される充電用電極と,
前記電極と接触しているイオン伝導性媒体と,
前記燃料極の複数の前記電極本体に接続されたコントローラと,
を備え,
前記コントローラは,前記充電用電極をアノードとして機能させるとともに少なくとも一つの浸透性電極本体をカソードとして機能させて,前記充電用電極と前記浸透性電極本体の少なくとも一つとの間に電流を印加するように構成され,前記イオン伝導性媒体中の還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて前記少なくとも一つの浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出し,前記析出によって前記浸透性電極本体の間に前記金属燃料が成長し,前記析出した金属燃料が前記浸透性電極本体間に電気的接続を確立し,
前記コントローラは,前記析出した金属燃料の成長速度及び成長密度を調整するために,少なくとも一つの入力パラメータに基づいて,各々がカソードとして機能している様々な数の前記浸透性電極本体に前記電流を選択的に印加するように構成されている電気化学セル。 - 前記コントローラが,
(1)前記電流が前記アノードとして機能する前記充電用電極を用いて前記浸透性電極本体のうち末端の電極本体に印加され,前記還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて前記末端の浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出するように前記末端の電極本体が前記カソードとして機能し,前記析出によって前記浸透性電極本体間における前記金属燃料の成長が起こり,前記電気的接続が確立すると後段の浸透性電極本体の各々において発生する前記還元及び析出によって前記析出した金属燃料が前記末端の電極本体と後段の浸透性電極本体の各々との間に電気的接続を確立する高密度段階的成長モードと,
(2)前記アノードとして機能する前記充電用電極を用いて前記電流が複数の前記電極
本体に同時に印加され,前記還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて前記末端の浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出するように複数の電極本体の各々がカソードとして機能し,前記析出によって前記金属燃料間における前記浸透性電極本体の成長が起こる高速成長モードと,
から選択するように構成された請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。 - 前記コントローラが,前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記電流を全ての前記電極本体に同時に印加するように構成された
請求項2に記載の電気化学セル。 - 前記コントローラが,前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記電流を全ての前記電極本体よりも少ない数の電極本体に対して同時に印加するように構成された請求項2に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記コントローラが,再充電動作を実行する間に前記電流が印加される電極本体の数を変更するように構成された請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記コントローラが前記電気化学セルの状態を検出するセンサに接続され,前記入力パラメータが前記センサによって入力される請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記入力パラメータがユーザ入力によって入力される請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記入力パラメータが制限パラメータであり,前記コントローラがセル特性を前記制限パラメータと比較するようにさらに構成された請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記セル特性は,電圧,容量,電極間のインピーダンス,電極又は電圧の勾配,電流,検出電極に対する抵抗,又は前記充電用電極との短絡である請求項8に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記イオン伝導性媒体が電解質である請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記コントローラと複数の電極本体との間に動作可能に接続された複数のスイッチをさらに備え,前記コントローラは,複数のスイッチの各々について開状態及び閉状態を制御して,前記電流を複数の電極本体の一部に選択的に印加するように構成された請求項1に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電用電極がアノードとして機能する複数の電極本体の一部を含むとともに前記燃料極がカソードとして機能する複数の電極本体の一部を含むように前記電流が複数の電極本体に同時に印加され,アノードとして機能する複数の電極本体によってカソードとして機能する複数の電極本体の各々が互いから分離されている請求項2に記載の電気化学セル。
- 前記コントローラが充電/放電コントローラである請求項1、請求項2、請求項6、請求項8、及び請求項12のいずれか1項に記載の電気化学セル。
- 電気化学セルを再充電する方法であって,
前記電気化学セルは,
互いに離間して配置された複数の浸透性電極本体を含む燃料極と,
前記燃料極から離間している酸化剤極と,
(a)酸化剤極,(b)前記燃料極及び前記酸化剤極から離間している第3の電極,及び(c)前記燃料極の一部分から成る群より選択される充電用電極と,
前記電極と接触しているイオン伝導性媒体と,
前記燃料極の複数の前記電極本体に接続されたコントローラと,
を備え,
前記コントローラは,前記充電用電極をアノードとして機能させるとともに少なくとも一つの浸透性電極本体をカソードとして機能させて,前記充電用電極と前記浸透性電極本体の少なくとも一つとの間に電流を印加するように構成され,前記イオン伝導性媒体中の還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて前記少なくとも一つの浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出し,前記析出によって前記浸透性電極本体の間に前記金属燃料が成長し,前記析出した金属燃料が前記浸透性電極本体間に電気的接続を確立し,
前記コントローラは,前記析出した金属燃料の成長速度及び成長密度を調整するために,少なくとも一つの入力パラメータに基づいて,各々がカソードとして機能している様々な数の前記浸透性電極本体に前記電流を選択的に印加するように構成されており,
前記方法は,
前記少なくとも一つの入力パラメータに基づいて,高密度段階的成長モードと高速成長モードとから選択する工程と,
前記高密度段階的成長モード及び前記高速成長モードのうち選択されたモードに基づいて前記電気化学セルを充電する工程と,
前記充電する工程を終了するために前記電流を切断する工程と,
を備え,
前記高密度段階的成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,
前記還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて末端の浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出するように,前記アノードとして機能する前記充電用電極及び前記カソードとして機能する前記末端の電極本体とを用いて,前記浸透性電極本体のうち末端の電極本体に前記電流を印加する工程と,前記電気的接続が確立すると後段の浸透性電極本体の各々において発生する前記還元及び析出によって前記析出した金属燃料が前記末端の電極本体と後段の浸透性電極本体の各々との間に電気的接続を確立するように,前記析出によって前記浸透性電極本体間における前記金属燃料の成長が起こる工程と,を含み,
前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,
前記アノードとして機能する前記充電用電極とカソードとして機能する複数の電極本体の各々とを用いて,前記還元性金属燃料イオンが還元されて前記末端の浸透性電極本体に酸化可能な形態で金属燃料として析出するように,前記電流を複数の前記電極本体に同時に印加する工程と,前記析出によって前記金属燃料間における前記浸透性電極本体の成長が起こる工程と,を含む方法。 - 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電用電極は,カソードとして機能する複数の前記電極本体に隣接する複数の電極本体の一又は複数を含む請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,カソードとして機能する前記電極本体のいずれかと前記充電用電極のいずれかとの間に形成された電気的接続を判断するために複数の電極本体の一又は複数において導通テストを実行する工程と,前記電極本体のいずれかを切断する工程と,をさらに備える請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記少なくとも一つの入力パラメータは,前記電気化学セルに対応づけられたセンサによって取得された測定値を含み,前記センサを用いて,前記電気化学セルの前記測定値を検出する工程をさらに備える請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記少なくとも一つの入力パラメータが,前記高密度段階的成長モード又は前記高速成長モードのユーザ入力によって入力されたユーザによる選択を含み,前記ユーザ入力を介してユーザの選択を取得する工程をさらに備える請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記少なくとも一つの入力パラメータが制限パラメータであり,前記コントローラは,セル特性を前記制限パラメータと比較して前記選択を実行する請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,前記電極本体の全てに同時に前記電流を印加する請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,前記電極本体の全てよりも少ない数の電極本体に同時に前記電流を印加する請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記充電する工程は,前記コントローラを用いて,再充電動作を実行する間に前記電流が印加される電極本体の数を変更する請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記電気化学セルの前記イオン伝導性媒体が電解質である請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記電気化学セルは,前記コントローラと複数の電極本体との間に動作可能に接続された複数のスイッチをさらに備え,前記充電する工程は,前記コントローラを用いて複数のスイッチの各々について開状態及び閉状態を制御することにより,前記電流を複数の電極本体の一部に選択的に印加する請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記高速成長モードにおいて,前記充電する工程は,前記充電用電極がアノードとして機能する複数の電極本体の一部を含むとともに前記燃料極がカソードとして機能する複数の電極本体の一部を含むように前記電流を複数の電極本体に同時に印加し,アノードとして機能する複数の電極本体によってカソードとして機能する複数の電極本体の各々が互いから分離されている請求項14に記載の電気化学セル充電方法。
- 前記コントローラが充電/放電コントローラである請求項14、請求項17、請求項19、及び請求項24のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
