Description
POBAやステント搬送等のために医療バルーンを体腔内にて用いる医療用途においては、血管が非常に細く、治療部位に到達するまでのカテーテルの経路が蛇行している上に長いため、バルーンに対する要求度が高くなる。このような用途に用いるバルーンは、薄い壁を有していることが望ましいが、同時に、高い強度を有していることが要求される。通常、強度はフープ強度又は破裂耐圧にて測定される。また、このような用途に用いるバルーンは、弾性が比較的低く、さらに予測可能な膨張特性を有していることが望ましい。
しかし、バランスの良い物理特性を有する拡張型医療バルーンは現在も必要とされている。
本発明の一実施形態は、ショアD硬さが約25〜70であるポリマー材料から形成される内径、及びロックウェル硬さが約60〜115であるポリマー材料から形成される外層を備える拡張型医療バルーンに関する。この拡張型医療バルーンの破裂強度は約310,264.065kPa(約45,000psi)より高く、より好ましくは約327,500.957kPa(約47,500psi)より高く、最も好ましくは約344,737.850kPa(約50,000psi)より高い。
本発明の他の側面、実施形態、及び効果が、下記の説明及び特許請求の範囲より当業者に明らかになるであろう。
円筒状パリソンは共押し出し法により形成可能である。円筒状パリソンは、柔軟な内層及び硬質な外層の2層を有していてもよいし、もしくは、柔軟層及び硬質層を交互に有していてもよい。例えば、層1、層3、及び層5(層1がバルーンの最も内側の層)を、可撓性を有する柔軟な材料から形成し、層2、層4、及び層6を、硬度及び強度がより高い材料から形成してもよい。
図2に、本発明の一実施形態によるバルーン10を長手方向に切断した断面を示す。本発明の一実施形態によるバルーン10は、内層12及び外層14の2層からなる。図3は、図2における3−3線断面図である。
また、治療薬の搬送を制御するためのコーティングを必要に応じて追加してもよい。
図5に示すように、アセンブリは、バルーン10のまわりにステント30を備えていてもよい。ステント搬送に用いる場合には、ウェスト部16,18及び円錐部17,19のいずれか、または両方のみに潤滑コーティングを施すことが望ましい。
実施例
実施例1
Vestamid(登録商標)L2101F及びPebax(登録商標)7033が、内径約0.49mm(0.0196インチ)及び外径約0.88mm(0.0348インチ)の管を形成すべく軸方向に共押し出しされた。外層は、Vestamid(登録商標)L2101Fからなり、断面積の70%(材料比率)を占めた。内層は、Pebax(登録商標)7033からなり、断面積の30%(材料比率)を占めた。この管は、速さが秒速50mm、温度が45°C、内圧が約2,757.902KPa(400psi)、延伸率が3.50の条件において延伸された。延伸された管は約3.2mm(0.126インチ)バルーン型(バルーン型の内径)に挿入され、95°Cの温度においてバルーンが形成された。形成されたバルーンは、形成直後から1分間にわたり120°Cの温度にて熱硬化された。バルーンの形成圧力は約3,447.378KPa(約500psi)であった。

Pは、バルーン破裂時の内圧(kg/cm2)(psi)であり、Dは6.2kg/cm2(88psi)の圧力がかけられた際のバルーンの外径(mm)である。tはバルーンの外径の大きい部分の壁厚である。
フープ率は以下の式により算出できる。
ID(BM)はバルーン型の内径であり、OD及びIDは円筒状パリソンの外径及び内径をそれぞれ表す。実施例1においては、フープ率は4.758であった。
比較例A
比較を行うために、材料比率は上記の実施例と同じであるが、材料の配置を逆にし、より柔軟な材料を外側に配置した。この比較例においては、内層にVestamid(登録商標)L2101Fを用い(材料費率70%)、外層にPebax(登録商標)7033を用いた(材料費率30%)。同じ直径の管が押し出しされ、上記実施例と同じバルーン形成工程により同サイズのバルーンが形成された。
比較例B
この比較例においては、内層及び外層は実施例1と同じであるが、管の延伸率が異なる。
比較例C
この比較例においては、内層及び外層は実施例1と同じであるが、熱硬化温度が異なる。
熱硬化温度を140°Cに上げることより破裂圧力に悪影響が与えられ、実施例1に比べて破裂圧力が15%を超えて減少した。その結果、算出された破裂強度は、実施例1に比べ10%を超えて減少した。
Claims (4)
- ポリ(エーテル−ブロック−アミド)共重合体から形成される内層及びポリアミドから形成される外層を有する円筒状パリソンを形成する工程と、
前記円筒状パリソンを4.0未満の延伸率にて長手方向に延伸する工程と、
延伸された前記円筒状パリソンをバルーン型内にて放射状に拡張する工程と、
拡張された前記円筒状パリソンを150°C以下の温度にて熱硬化させる工程と、を含む
拡張型医療バルーンを製造する方法。 - 前記熱硬化の温度が120°Cである請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記延伸率が3.5以下である請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記円筒状パリソンの径方向の断面において外層対内層の材料比率が70%対30%である請求項1に記載の方法。
