Description
少なくとも一つの色で所定の範囲を越えるパターンが所定の面積以上を占めるかどうかを判断する。なお、前記の3色(R、G、B)は、各々ただ1個の画素で表示できる原色を意味し、技術変化によって他の原色構成に変化する時は、その原色を意味するものとする。

ここで、D2i−1及びD2iは各々一つのブロック内で2i−1番目及び2i番目画素の階調を示し、DTHは階調臨界値を示し、iは1乃至8の値を有する。

Claims (6)
- 複数のゲート線と複数のデータ線から信号の供給を受けて画像を表示するように複数の画素がマトリックス形態に配列されている液晶パネルと、前記データ線及び前記ゲート線に各々印加される画像信号及び選択信号のタイミングを調節するタイミングコントローラと、を含む液晶表示装置を駆動する方法であって、
外部から入力される垂直周波数を判断する第1段階と、
前記判断された垂直周波数によって反転駆動方式の種類を切り替える第2段階と、
を含み、
前記第2段階は、垂直周波数が所定の基準垂直周波数より低ければ前記反転駆動方式を2ドット反転方式に切り替え、垂直周波数が所定の基準垂直周波数より高ければ前記反転駆動方式を1ドット反転方式に切り替えることで、液晶容量充放電回数の半減により電力を減らす液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記第1段階は内部または外部クロックで1フレーム長さをカウントして前記入力された垂直周波数を判断する、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記第1段階は内部または外部クロックでDE(Data Enable)信号のアクティブまたはインアクティブ区間をカウントして前記入力された垂直周波数を判断する、
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 同じ方向に沿って配置された複数のデータ線と、前記複数のデータ線と交差する方向に沿って配置された複数のゲート線と、前記データ線及び前記ゲート線から信号の供給を受けて画像を表示し、マトリックス形態に配列されている複数の画素と、を含む液晶パネルと、
外部から入力される垂直周波数を判断し、前記垂直周波数が所定の基準周波数より低い場合には2ドット反転方式で、前記垂直周波数が前記基準周波数より高い場合には1ドット反転方式で、液晶表示装置を駆動することで、液晶容量充放電回数の半減により電力を減らすタイミングコントローラとを含み、
前記タイミングコントローラは、
前記1ドット反転方式で駆動する途中に、連続する所定の個数の前記画素で隣接する2つの同一色画素の階調差が所定の範囲を越えるパターンが全体画素で所定の面積以上を占めるフリッカーが発生すれば、前記駆動方式を前記2ドット反転方式に変更する液晶表示装置。 - 前記タイミングコントローラは、内部クロックを使用して1フレームの長さをカウントするかまたはDE(Data Enable)信号のアクティブ区間またはインアクティブ区間の長さをカウントすることにより、前記入力される垂直周波数を判断する、請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 固定された周波数のクロックを発生させるリングオシレータをさらに含み、
前記タイミングコントローラは前記リングオシレータのクロックを使用して1フレームの長さをカウントするかまたはDE信号のアクティブ区間またはインアクティブ区間の長さをカウントすることにより、前記入力される垂直周波数を判断する、請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
