また、上記構成によると、ブレーキレバーが操作されてスイッチ切換位置に達すると、点灯状態を維持した状態で、表示手段の明るさが変化するため、表示手段を目視することにより、スイッチ切換位置を容易かつ正確に把握することができる。
図1に示すように、1は電動自転車であり、フレーム2と、前車輪3および後車輪4と、ハンドル5と、ペダル6と、機械式の前および後ブレーキ装置7,8(図3、図4参照)と、補助駆動力(アシスト力)を発生させる電動モータ9と、電動モータ9に駆動用の電力を供給する二次電池からなるバッテリ10と、ライト(前照灯)11と、操作盤12等が設けられている。
上記構成において、例えば、電動自転車1を出荷する前の調整工程において、作業者が電源ボタン14を押してオンにすると(ステップ−1)、主電源が入って制御装置28が起動する(ステップ−2)。
また、上記実施の形態においては、電動自転車1の走行速度にかかわらず、ブレーキスイッチ22,27の切換えにより補助駆動力の発生が停止されるよう構成したが、これに限るものではない。すなわち、図10に示すように、速度検知手段としての速度センサ37からの走行速度情報に基づいて(ステップ−6)、走行速度が所定速度(例えば、時速5km)を越えた中高速である場合には、ブレーキスイッチ22,27の切換えによる補助駆動力の発生の停止を行わず(すなわち補助駆動力の発生可能状態を維持し)(ステップ−4)、走行速度が0または所定速度(例えば、時速5km)以下の低速である場合に、ブレーキスイッチ22,27の切換えにより補助駆動力の発生が停止されるよう(ステップ−5)構成してもよい。

Claims (5)
- 機械式のブレーキ装置と、補助駆動力を発生する電動モータと、電動モータに駆動用の電力を供給するバッテリとを備えた電動自転車であって、
ブレーキ装置は、ブレーキ本体と、ブレーキレバーと、ブレーキ本体とブレーキレバーとの間に連動連結されるブレーキ連動部材と、ブレーキレバーの操作に連動して切換えられるブレーキスイッチとを有し、
ブレーキレバーを操作していない開放位置とブレーキ本体が作動する作動開始位置との間の遊びの範囲内に、ブレーキスイッチが切換えられるスイッチ切換位置が設定され、
ブレーキレバーが操作されてブレーキスイッチが切換えられたことを表示する表示手段が、当該電動自転車におけるブレーキレバーを操作した際に目視できる箇所に設けられ、
ブレーキスイッチの切換えにより補助駆動力の発生が停止され、
ブレーキスイッチが切換えられたときの表示手段の明るさは、ブレーキスイッチが切換えられていないときの表示手段の明るさと比べて、点灯状態を維持した状態で、変化することを特徴とする電動自転車。 - 表示手段は、ハンドルに取り付けられた表示灯であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電動自転車。
- 走行速度を検知する速度検知手段を有し、走行速度が0または所定速度以下の低速である場合に、ブレーキスイッチの切換えにより補助駆動力の発生が停止されるよう構成したことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の電動自転車。
- 走行速度を検知する速度検知手段とクランク軸の回転を検知するクランク軸回転検知手段との少なくとも一方の検知手段を有し、走行速度が0または所定速度以下の低速である場合、若しくは、クランク軸の回転数が0または所定回転数以下である場合に、ブレーキスイッチの切換えにより補助駆動力の発生が停止されるよう構成したことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の電動自転車。
- 前記請求項1から請求項4の何れか1項に記載の電動自転車のブレーキ調整方法であって、
ブレーキレバーを操作し、表示手段によってブレーキスイッチの切換えが表示されて点灯状態を維持した状態で明るさが変化した時点からブレーキ本体が作動し始める時点までのブレーキレバーのストロークを求め、
前記求められたストロークが最適な値になるようにブレーキ連動部材を調整することを特徴とする電動自転車のブレーキ調整方法。
