Description
(A)500℃の温度で原料油組成物を熱処理して得られるコークスは、10μm以下のモザイク組織の割合が5%以下である。
本実施形態に係るリチウムイオン二次電池負極材料原料油組成物は、減圧蒸留によって得られ且つ初留点300℃以上、アスファルテン分及びレジン分の合計含有量25質量%以下、飽和分の含有量40質量%以上である第1の重質油と、芳香族指数0.3以上、初留点150℃以上である第2の重質油とを含有する。この原料油組成物に対してコーキング処理することによって原料炭組成物を得ることができ、この原料炭組成物に対して更なる熱処理などを施すことによって高速充電特性に優れたリチウムイオン二次電池負極材料を得ることができる。
次に、原料油組成物及びその調製方法について説明する。本実施形態に係る原料油組成物は、当該原料油組成物に対して500℃の温度での熱処理を施した場合に、10μm以下のモザイク組織の割合が5%以下のコークスが得られるように、上述の第1の重質油と、第2の重質油とを混合することによって調製される。
原料油組成物をコーキング処理して原料炭組成物を得る方法としては、ディレードコーキング法が好ましい。より具体的には、ディレードコーカーで加圧下、原料油組成物を熱処理する。ディレードコーカーの圧力及び温度はそれぞれ300〜800kPa、400〜600℃とすることが好ましい。
次に、本発明に係る原料炭組成物から得られるリチウムイオン二次電池負極用炭素材料を用いたリチウム二次電池について説明する。
(1)負極炭素材料の作製
先ず、常圧蒸留残油(密度0.90g/cm3、硫黄分0.30質量%)を、加熱炉出口温度:350℃、圧力:−100kPa(ゲージ圧)の条件下で減圧蒸留し、初留点390℃、アスファルテン分6質量%、レジン分7質量%、飽和分60質量%、硫黄分0.1質量%の減圧蒸留残渣油(第1の重質油)を得た。一方、脱硫減圧軽油(硫黄分500質量ppm、15℃における密度0.88g/cm3)を流動接触分解し、初留点200℃、芳香族指数0.39、硫黄分0.1質量%、アスファルテン分0質量%、飽和分34質量%の流動接触分解残油(第2の重質油)を得た。
(a)負極の作製
負極の活物質として炭素微粒子材料A(処理温度:1500℃)、導電材としてアセチレンブラック(AB)、バインダーとしてポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)を80:10:10(質量比)の割合でN−メチル−2−ピロリドン中で混合し、スラリーを作製した。該スラリーを銅箔上に塗布し、ホットプレートで10分間乾燥したのち、ロールプレスでプレス成形した。
(b)評価用電池の作製
負極(30×50mm)として上記の組成物、正極(30×50mm)としてニッケル酸リチウム、電解液としてエチレンカーボネート(EC)/メチルエチルカーボネート(MEC)混合液(EC/MEC質量比:3/7、溶質:LiPF6(1M体積モル濃度)、及びセパレータとしてポリエチレン微孔膜を用いた。
(c)高速充放電レート特性の評価
上記電池の高速(10C)充放電特性の測定結果を表1に示す。本実施例で作製した電池は、10Cの高速充電を行ったとき、充電容量は140mAh/gであり、高速充電特性に極めて優れていた。
負極の活物質として、炭素微粒子材料A(処理温度:1500℃)の代わりに、炭素微粒子材料Aを窒素ガス雰囲気下、2400℃で30分間黒鉛化処理して得た炭素微粒子材料B(処理温度:2400℃)を用いたことの他は、実施例1と同様にして評価用電池を作製した。実施例1と同様の操作で高速充放電特性を評価した結果を、表1に示す。本実施例で作製した電池は、10Cの高速充電を行ったとき、充電容量は220mAh/gであり、高速充電特性に極めて優れていた。
減圧蒸留残渣油と流動接触分解残油とを併用して原料油組成物を調製する代わりに、実施例1において用いた減圧蒸留残渣油(第1の重質油)と同様の重質油からなる原料油組成物Bを準備した。この原料油組成物Bを、常圧、500℃で3時間熱処理を行いコークス化し生成したコークスを市販の樹脂に埋め込み偏光顕微鏡で観察したところ、10μm以下のモザイク組織の割合は7.0%であった。
負極の活物質として、炭素微粒子材料C(処理温度:1500℃)の代わりに、炭素微粒子材料Cを窒素ガス雰囲気下、2400℃で30分間黒鉛化処理して得た炭素微粒子材料D(処理温度:2400℃)を用いたことの他は、実施例1と同様にして評価用電池を作製した。実施例1と同様の操作で高速充放電特性を評価した結果を、表1に示す。本比較例で作製した電池は、10Cの高速充電を行ったとき、充電容量は100mAh/gであり、実施例1,2に比較して劣っていた。
Claims (3)
- 原料油組成物から製造されるリチウムイオン二次電池の負極材料であって、
減圧蒸留によって得られ且つ初留点300℃以上、アスファルテン分及びレジン分の合計含有量25質量%以下、飽和分の含有量40質量%以上である第1の重質油と、芳香族指数0.3以上、初留点150℃以上である第2の重質油とを含有し、原料油組成物の全質量基準で、前記第1の重質油の含有量が10〜50質量%であり、前記第2の重質油の含有量が50〜90質量%であるとともに、500℃の温度での熱処理が施されると、10μm以下のモザイク組織の割合が5%以下のコークスとなる原料油組成物を、
コーキング処理して原料炭組成物を得た後、当該原料炭組成物をか焼するか焼工程を経て得られることを特徴とするリチウムイオン二次電池の負極材料。 - 前記か焼工程は、前記原料炭組成物を不活性ガス雰囲気下で、1000〜1500℃でか焼する工程であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の負極材料。
- 前記か焼工程によって得られたか焼炭を更に2000〜3000℃で熱処理して人造黒鉛化する工程を経て得られることを特徴とする、請求項2に記載のリチウムイオン二次電池の負極材料。
