R3は、ビニールまたは1E−プロペニルを表す。

2〜45%の1または2種以上の式IIの化合物、
12〜23%の1または2種以上の式IIIの化合物、
5〜20%の1または2種以上の式IVの化合物、
18〜28%の1または2種以上の式Vの化合物、
0〜12%の1または2種以上の式VIの化合物、
0〜14%の1または2種以上の式VIIの化合物、および
0〜18%の1または2種以上の式VIIIの化合物
を含有する液晶媒体。
R1およびR4は、互いに独立してそれぞれ、メチル、エチル、n−プロピル、n−ブチル、n−ペンチルまたはn−ヘキシルであり、ただしR4はメトキシであってもよく、
R2は、メチル、エチル、n−プロピル、n−ブチル、n−ペンチル、n−ヘキシル、メトキシ、エトキシ、n−プロポキシ、n−ブトキシまたはn−ペントキシ、

- R1がn−プロピルまたはn−ペンチルであり、R2がエトキシまたはn−ブトキシである式Iの化合物の1、2または3種;
R1がn−プロピル、n−ブチルまたはn−ペンチルであり、R2がエトキシまたはn−プロポキシである式IIの化合物の1、2、3または4種;
任意成分として、R1がエチルまたはn−ブチルであり、R2がメチルである式IIの化合物の1種または2種;
R1がエチルあるいはn−プロピルであり、R2がエトキシあるいはn−プロポキシである式IIIの化合物の1または2種;
R1がn−プロピル、n−ブチルあるいはn−ペンチルであり、R3がビニールあるいは1E−プロペニルである式Vの化合物の1、2または3種;
任意成分として、R3がビニールであり、R1がメチルである式VIの化合物1種;

- 0.11〜0.12の複屈折率Δnを有することを特徴とする請求項6に記載の液晶媒体。
- −2.5〜−3.5の誘電異方性Δεを有することを特徴とする請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の液晶媒体。
- 分子軸の長さ方向に垂直な誘電率ε⊥の値5.8〜6.8を有することを特徴とする請求項1〜8のいずれか1項に記載の液晶媒体。
- 請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の液晶媒体の電気光学目的のための使用。
- 請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の液晶媒体を含有する電気光学液晶ディスプレイ。
- アクティブマトリックス駆動であって、ECB、VAまたはASVモードに基づくことを特徴とする請求項11に記載の電気光学液晶ディスプレイ。
