Claims (14)
- 反射型液晶表示装置であって、
透過性である第1の基板と、
反射型であり、前記第1の基板と平行である第2の基板と、
前記第1と第2の基板の間に在り、複屈折率(Δn)および負の誘電体異方性を有した液晶液とを含み、
前記第1の基板が、前記液晶液に直近する第1の液晶アラインメント層を有し、前記第1の液晶アラインメント層に直近する前記液晶液の分子が、2°から15°までの第1のプレチルト角度および第1の方位角度を有しており、
前記第2の基板が、前記液晶液に直近する第2の液晶アラインメント層を有し、前記第2の液晶アラインメント層に直近する前記液晶液の分子が、2°から15°までの第2のプレチルト角度および第2の方位角度を有しており、
前記第2の方位角度が、前記第1の方位角度に対して垂直であり、
前記第1の基板上の線形偏光子の偏光方向が前記第1の方位角度に対して平行かまたは垂直である、
反射型液晶表示装置。 - 線形に偏光された入射光が、前記第1の方位角度に対してほぼ平行である偏光方向を有する、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 線形に偏光された入射光が、前記第1の方位角度に対してほぼ垂直である偏光方向を有する、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- グレーのシェードが、電界のない状態から最大値を有した電界まで前記第1と第2の基板の間の電界を変化させることによって、生成される、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1および第2の基板の内側面間の間隔(d)が、3.5マイクロメータである、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1および第2の基板の内側面間の間隔(d)が、3.3マイクロメータから3.7マイクロメータまでである、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 複屈折率(Δn)が、45℃で0.0830である、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 複屈折率(Δn)が、0.0777から0.0996までである、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶液の分子の方位角度(φ)が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に電界を加えないとき、前記第1の基板において0°から前記第2の基板において90°まで変化する、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶液の分子の方位角度(φ)が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に電界を加えないとき、前記第2の基板において0°から前記第1の基板において90°まで変化する、請求項1に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 反射型液晶表示装置であって、
透過性である第1の基板と、
反射型であり、前記第1の基板と平行である第2の基板と、
前記第1と第2の基板の間に在り、複屈折率(Δn)および負の誘電体異方性を有した液晶液とを含み、
前記第1の基板が、前記液晶液に直近する第1の液晶アラインメント層を有し、前記第1の液晶アラインメント層に直近する前記液晶液の分子が、2°から15°までの第1のプレチルト角度および第1の方位角度を有しており、
前記第2の基板が、前記液晶液に直近する第2の液晶アラインメント層を有し、前記第2の液晶アラインメント層に直近する前記液晶液の分子が、2°から15°までの第2のプレチルト角度および第2の方位角度を有しており、
前記第2の方位角度が、前記第1の方位角度に対して垂直であり、
電界が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に加えられたとき、前記液晶液の分子が、そのチルト角度を増加させられ、
電界が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に加えられないとき、前記液晶液の分子が、その方位角度を、前記第1および第2の基板に対して垂直にさせられ、
それによって、電界が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に加えられたとき、
前記液晶液が、前記第1の基板で線形に偏光された入射光を、前記第2の基板に達したとき円形に偏光された入射光に変化させ、
前記第2の基板が、円形に偏光された入射光を、反対の左右像で円形に偏光された光として反射して戻し、
前記液晶液が、円形に偏光された反射光を、前記第1の基板に達したとき線形に偏光された反射光に変化させ、
したがって、線形に偏光された入射光の偏光方向および線形に偏光された反射光の偏光方向が、前記第1の基板において互いに垂直になり、
それによって、電界が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に加えられないとき、
前記液晶液が、前記液晶液を通過する光の偏光状態を変化させず、
したがって線形に偏光された入射光の偏光方向および線形に偏光された反射光の偏光方向が、前記第1の基板において互いに平行になり、
前記第1の基板上の線形偏光子の偏光方向が前記第1の方位角度に対して平行かまたは垂直である、
反射型液晶表示装置。 - 電界が、前記第1と第2の基板の間に複数の第1の時間の間、加えられ、電界が、複数の第2の時間の間、加えられない、請求項11に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1および第2の時間を変化させてグレーのシェードを生成する、請求項12に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1および第2の時間を変化させてフィールド順次式カラーを生成する、請求項12に記載の反射型液晶表示装置。
