Claims (8)
- マトリクス型の表示素子と、
前記表示素子の画素を駆動する駆動回路と、
前記駆動回路を制御する制御回路と、を備える表示装置であって、
前記制御回路は、書換え対象の画素を初期化する初期化パルスを印加して初期階調状態にした後、初期化された画素に対して階調パルスを印加して前記初期階調状態以外の階調状態にするように、前記駆動回路を制御し、
前記階調パルスの印加される累積時間が、階調状態の値に関係する表示装置において、
当該表示装置の温度を検出する温度センサを備え、
前記制御回路は、
前記初期化パルスのパルス電圧を固定とし、前記温度センサの検出した温度に応じて、前記初期化パルスのパルス幅を変化させ、
前記温度センサの検出した温度が低温の時には前記階調パルスのパルス幅を変化させ、前記温度センサの検出した温度が高温の時には前記階調パルスのパルス電圧を変化させ、
温度に応じて変化する前記表示素子の粘度をηとし、前記階調パルスの波高をVとし、前記階調パルスのパルス幅をTとすると、
前記制御回路は、V 2 ×Tがη p (ただし、0≦p<1)と略比例の関係となるように前記階調パルスの波高およびパルス幅を制御することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記制御回路は、
前記温度センサの検出した温度が低温の時には、前記初期化パルスおよび前記階調パルスのパルス幅を広くし、前記温度センサの検出した温度が高温の時には前記階調パルスのパルス電圧を低下させることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記表示素子は、コレステリック液晶を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示装置は、複数の異なる反射光を呈する複数の前記表示素子が積層された積層構造を備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 温度に応じた前記初期化パルスのパルス幅および前記階調パルスの波高およびパルス幅の変化は、前記複数の表示素子で異なることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の表示装置。
- マトリクス型の表示素子の駆動方法であって、
書換え対象の画素を初期化する初期化パルスを印加して初期階調状態にする第1ステップと、
前記第1ステップで初期化された画素に対して階調パルスを印加して前記初期階調状態以外の階調状態にする第2ステップと、を備え、
前記第2ステップにおいて前記階調パルスの印加される累積時間が、階調状態の値に関係する駆動方法において、
前記初期化パルスのパルス電圧を固定とし、前記温度センサの検出した温度に応じて、前記初期化パルスのパルス幅を変化させ、
前記温度センサの検出した温度が低温の時には、前記階調パルスのパルス電圧を固定として前記階調パルスのパルス幅を変化させ、前記温度センサの検出した温度が高温の時には前記階調パルスのパルス電圧を変化させ、
温度に応じて変化する前記表示素子の粘度をηとし、前記階調パルスの波高をVとし、各サブ階調パルスのパルス幅をT/2とすると、
V 2 ×Tがη p (ただし、0≦p<1)と略比例の関係となるように前記階調パルスの波高およびパルス幅を変化させることを特徴とする表示素子の駆動方法。 - 前記温度センサの検出した温度が低温の時には、前記初期化パルスおよび前記階調パルスのパルス幅を広くし、前記温度センサの検出した温度が高温の時には前記階調パルスのパルス電圧を低下させることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の表示素子の駆動方法。
- 前記表示素子は、コレステリック液晶を含むことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の表示素子の駆動方法。
