Description
前加熱媒体が、熱硬化性ポリイミド樹脂を備えてなる相間材であり、該相間材が、光吸収剤を含有するか又は光吸収剤が表面に塗布されてなる相間材であり、レーザー照射により該相間材を介して前記突き合せ部分を加熱することを特徴とするシート部材の接合方法を提供する。
また、粘着剤等を使用することなく接合されたものであるため、加熱されても接着力が低下しにくく、先行する第一のシート部材と追従する新たな第二のシート部材とが外れ難いという効果がある。
図1に示すように、本実施形態に係るシート部材の接合方法は、長尺帯状に形成された熱可塑性樹脂からなるシート部材1(以下、第一シート部材ともいう)を所定の加工手段(図示せず)へと送りながら、該第一シート部材1の末端が近づいた際に、該第一シート部材1に、同じ素材からなる新たなシート部材2(以下、第二シート部材ともいう)を接合し、上記加工手段による処理工程を、継続して行おうとする場合に適用されうるものである。
さらに、該シート部材は、単層であってもよく、複層であってもよい。複層のシート部材としては、例えば、基材層と、粘着剤付きの保護フィルム層とがラミネートされたものを挙げることができる。
尚、このような複層のシート部材を接合する場合、各層を一時的に剥離して各層毎に独立して接合してもよいし、複層のまま接合してもよい。基材層と保護フィルム層との相溶性が悪く、溶融させても混合層を形成しない場合には、複層のまま接合しても接合後に基材層と保護フィルム層とを剥離することが可能となる。
切断線の形状については特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、直線状、波状、又は鋸刃状等とすることができる。シート同士の接合面積を増大させて接合強度を高め、且つ、後段の処理工程において接合面に作用する応力を分散させてシートが分断されることを防止するという観点から、波状や鋸刃状等とすることや、また、シート部材の幅方向に対して斜めに切断することが好ましい。
このような相間材3を介して加熱することにより、シート部材1、2がヒートプレート32と融着することを防止できる。
このような相間材3を介して加熱することにより、シート部材はヒートプレートに融着することなく、相間材とも容易に剥離することが可能となる。
熱融着が完了した後、図3(d)に示すように、ガラス板35を引き上げ、相間材4,4を剥離することにより、シート部材1、2の接合が完了する。
また、多くの樹脂材料に対して透過性に優れ、シート部材間の界面にレーザー光を到達させやすく、シート部材の表側に悪影響を及ぼすことなく界面での融着を容易に行いうるという観点から、該レーザー光の波長は近赤外線領域であることが好ましい。
また、レーザー光を照射する場合には、光吸収剤を含む層が発熱することとなるので、相間材の厚みは特に限定されないが、ハンドリング性の観点から、10μm以上、500μm以下の厚みとすることが好ましい。
従って、このようにして得られたシート接合体は、接合部において段差を有しないものであるため、搬送ローラやニップローラ等のローラ類の損傷や、塗工工程、延伸工程、乾燥工程等において種々の問題を回避することができ、また、テールのバタつきによって起こるような汚染を防止することができる。
さらに、該接合部10も、シート部材1,2の本体部分と同じ樹脂材料で形成されたものであるため、その後の各種処理工程においてシート部材の他の部分と同様の処理を行うことが可能となる。
例えば、上記実施形態では、接合部10がシート部材1、2の幅方向に亘って連続して形成された例を示したが、本発明は、斯かる実施形態に限定されるものではなく、例えば、幅方向において所定間隔で接合部10を形成し、シート部材を接合してもよい。
TAC(トリアセチルセルロース)製シート部材A1(幅50mm、厚さ80μm)を2枚用い、該シート部材Aの端部を重ね合わせて固定し、カッターで切断した。切断により形成された端面同士を突き合わせ、突き合わせ部分にポリイミド製の相間材B1(東レ・デュポン社製、商品名「カプトンV」、厚さ25μm、50mm×5mm)を貼り付け、基板上に載置し、相間材の上からヒートプレートを押し当てることにより、280℃、5kgf/cm2の条件で10秒間加熱加圧を行った。
その結果、シート部材A1同士は熱融着されたが、相間材B1は該シート部材A1から容易に剥離することができ、段差を生じさせること無くシート部材A1同士が接合された。また、得られたシート接合体の引張強度を測定したところ、70N/25mmという高い強度であることが確認された。
参考例1と同素材で幅1400mmのシート部材A2と、参考例1と同素材で寸法が1400mm×20mmである相間材B2とを用いて参考例1と同様に接合試験を行った。
その結果、シート部材A2の全幅に亘って良好に接合されていることが確認された。該接合体を、500Nの張力をかけてロールからロールへと搬送したところ、該シート部材A2は破断することなく搬送することができた。また、段差がないことから、ニップロールにも何ら悪影響を及ぼさないことが確認された。
ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)製の幅1000mmであるシート部材A3と、参考例1と同素材で寸法が1000mm×20mmである相間材B3とを用いて参考例1と同様に接合試験を行った。
その結果、シート部材A3の全幅に亘って良好に接合されていることが確認された。該接合体を、200Nの張力をかけてロールからロールへと搬送したところ、該シート部材A3は破断することなく搬送することができた。また、段差がないことから、ニップロールにも何ら悪影響を及ぼさないことが確認された。
TAC(トリアセチルセルロース)製シート部材A4(幅1000mm、厚さ80μm)を2枚用い、該シート部材A4の端部を重ね合わせて固定し、カッターで切断した。一方、相間材B4として、ポリイミド製フィルム(東レ・デュポン社製、商品名「カプトンV」、厚さ125μm、1000mm×5mm)に光吸収剤であるクリアウェルド(ジェンテックス社製、商品名「LD120C」)をウエット状態で8μmの厚みとなるように塗布したものを用意した。そして、切断により形成された端面同士を突き合わせ、突き合わせ部分の上下に光吸収剤の塗布面がシート部材A4と当接するようにして該相間材B4を載置し、ガラス板で17kgf/cm2の圧力で加圧しながらレーザー(半導体レーザー、波長940nm、スポット径2mmφ、出力50W)を走査速度100mm/sで走査しながら照射した。
その結果、シート部材A4同士が溶融して熱融着されたことが確認された。そして、ガラス板による加圧をやめ、相間材B4をシート部材A4から剥離することにより、段差を生じさせること無くシート部材A4同士が接合されていることが確認された。また、得られたシート接合体の引張強度を測定したところ、100N/25mm巾という高強度で接続されていることが確認された。
また、接合した基材を張力300Nにてロールトゥロール搬送したところ、接合部は破断することなく搬送でき、また、ニップロールを通過しても該ロールに何ら悪影響を及ぼさないことが確認された。
参考例1と同様にしてシート部材Aの端面同士を突き合わせた後、表裏両面から粘着テープ(日東電工社製、商品名「ダンプロンテープ」)を貼り付け、シート部材Aを接合させた。
その結果、シート部材Aの接合性は良好であったが、接合部の段差によりニップロールに傷が生じ、また、該接合部に塗工液が溜まることが確認された。
シート部材Aの端部に他のシート部材Aの端部を重ね、シート部材の表面側にのみ粘着テープ(日東電工社製、商品名「ダンプロンテープ」)を貼り付けてシート部材Aを接合させた。
その結果、シート部材A同士の接合性は良好であったが、接合部の段差によりニップロールに傷が生じ、また、該接合部に塗工液が溜まることが確認された。さらに、粘着テープを貼り付けていない裏面側に形成されたテールが搬送中にバタつき、発塵したことが確認された。
シート部材Aの端部に他のシート部材Aの端部を重ね、重ね合わせた部分にレーザー光を照射してシート部材Aを接合した。
接合性は良好であったが、比較例2と同様に、段差及びテールによる問題が発生した。
Claims (2)
- 第一のシート部材と第二のシート部材とを接合するシート部材の接合方法であって、第一のシート部材の端面と、第二のシート部材の端面とを突き合わせ、該突き合せ部分を加熱媒体を介して加熱することにより前記端面同士を熱融着し、熱融着後に前記加熱媒体を第一及び第二のシート部材から剥離するシート部材の接合方法であって、
前記加熱媒体が、熱硬化性ポリイミド樹脂を備えてなる相間材であり、該相間材が、光吸収剤を含有するか又は光吸収剤が表面に塗布されてなる相間材であり、レーザー照射により該相間材を介して前記突き合せ部分を加熱することを特徴とするシート部材の接合方法。 - 前記シート部材が、熱可塑性樹脂であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のシート部材の接合方法。
