Description
エンジンの始動直後から排気ガスを触媒によって浄化するためには、触媒の温度が可及的速く活性温度に上昇するように、触媒をエンジンの排気口に近接させて設けることが有効である。
したがって、本発明によれば、エンジン始動後に短時間で触媒を活性温度に昇温させることと、エンジンの低・中速運転時の出力を向上させることとを両立可能な自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置を提供することができる。
また、本発明によれば、2次空気によって触媒の酸化反応が促進されるから、排気ガスの浄化効率を向上させることができる。
2次空気は、排気ガスが排気管内で円滑に流れている方が吸引され易い。一方、レゾネータを排気ガスが通過するときは、レゾネータによって排気ガスの流動が乱されることがある。また、本発明によれば、排気管におけるレゾネータによって排気ガスの流動が乱されることがない部位、言い換えれば排気ガスが円滑に流れる部位に2次空気通路が接続されているから、2次空気を排気管内に効率よく吸引させることができる。
さらに、本発明によれば、排気管内に吸引された2次空気を排気管内でエンジン側へ向けて進む負圧波によって上流側に位置する触媒に送ることができる。このため、この発明によれば、2次空気通路の接続部分より上流側に位置する触媒において酸化反応が促進される。
このため、この発明によれば、排気ガスをより一層効率よく浄化することができる。
図1は本発明に係る自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置を示す側面図、図2は同じく平面図である。図3はレゾネータの車体右側から見た側面図、図4は図3におけるIV−IV線断面図、図5はレゾネータの縦断面図で、同図は図4におけるV−V線断面図である。図6は本発明に係る自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置の構成を示す図、図7はエンジン回転数と出力・トルクとの関係を示すグラフである。
前記上流側触媒5は、セラミックス製の担体に触媒金属を担持させた一般的なものを使用している。
前記第3のパイプ23は、下流側端部がマフラー7の仕切板31を貫通し、この仕切板31に溶接されている。
マフラー7は、いわゆる反転式のもので、前記仕切板31によって画成された前側膨張室32と後側膨張室33とによって排気音を低減するように構成されている。
この実施の形態によるレゾネータ8は、上流側触媒5と下流側触媒6との間に位置付けられているから、これら両触媒5,6どうしの間に位置する第2のパイプ22内で負圧波と反射波(正圧波)とを低減することができる。
この結果、この実施の形態を採ることにより、上流側触媒5に相対的に温度が高い排気ガスが流入することによって上流側触媒5をエンジン2の始動直後に短時間で活性温度に昇温させることができるとともに、エンジン2の低・中速運転時の出力を向上させることができる。
この実施の形態によるエンジン2の排気装置1においては、排気管4に2次空気導入管26が取付けられ、この2次空気導入管26内の2次空気通路から排気通路内に新気が吸引されるから、下流側触媒6において酸化反応が促進され、この下流側触媒6において排気ガスの浄化効率を向上させることができる。

図8は他の実施の形態の構成を示す図である。ここでは、本発明の参考となる技術の例を図9〜図11によって説明する。これらの図において、前記図1〜図7によって説明したものと同一もしくは同等の部材については、同一符号を付し詳細な説明は適宜省略する。
したがって、この参考例の構成を採ることによっても図1〜図7に示した排気装置1と同等の効果を奏する。
Claims (2)
- 自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンに接続された排気管と、
前記排気管に設けられた触媒と、
前記排気管に設けられたレゾネータとを備え、
前記排気管は、前記エンジンの前方をクランクケースの下方まで延びるとともに、下端部がクランクケースの下方において車体の後方を指向するように屈曲させられたパイプを有し、
前記触媒は、前記クランクケースの下方に位置する前記パイプに設けられ、
前記レゾネータは、前記パイプの前記屈曲部分より下流側に設けられ、
前記排気管に新気を導く2次空気通路を前記排気管における前記レゾネータより上流側であって、前記排気管における前記触媒と前記レゾネータとの間に接続したことを特徴とする自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置。 - 請求項1記載の自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置において、
前記触媒を2個とするとともに、2個の触媒のうち一方の触媒を前記レゾネータおよび前記排気管の2次空気通路接続部より上流側に配設するとともに、他方の触媒を前記レゾネータおよび前記排気管の2次空気通路接続部より下流側に配設したことを特徴とする自動二輪車用4サイクルエンジンの排気装置。
