Description
電気コネクタは多くの電気装置に使用されている。1つの装置をいつかの印刷回路板上に分けて作製しておき、後で電気コネクタを用いて斯かる印刷回路板を一体に接合して斯かる1つの装置を作製するのは簡単であり且つコスト的にも高効率であると言える。幾つかの印刷回路板を接合する伝統的な構成は、1つの印刷回路板をバックプレーンとして機能させることである。その他の印刷回路板はドーターボードと呼ばれ、バックプレーンを介して連結される。
上記の背景を念頭において、本発明の目的は、高速、高密度のコネクタを提供することである。
本発明の更に別の目的は、低挿入力コネクタを提供することである。
本発明の更に別の目的は、シングルエンド又は差動信号用に構成された信号接触子を含むように容易に組立てられるコネクタを提供することである。
図1は、バックプレーン組立体100の分解図である。バックプレーン100は、該バックプレーンに取り付けられたピンヘッダ114を有している。ドーターカード112は、該ドーターカードに取り付けられたドーターカードコネクタ116を有している。該ドーターカードコネクタ116はピンヘッダ114に嵌め合わせてコネクタを形成する。バックプレーン組立体にも同様に多数のその他のピンヘッダが取り付けられており、多数のドーターカードを接続できるようにされている。更に、多数のピンヘッダを端−端で整列させ、多数のピンヘッダを使用して1つのドーターカードへ接続できるようにされている。しかしながら、明白にするために、バックプレーン組立体の一部及び唯一のドーターカード112を図示する。
板150は、また、スロット214を含んでいる。スロット214はレセプタクル158の間に挟まるように位置決めされている。スロット214は板150のキャパシタンスを制御する機能を果たし、該キャパシタンスによりコネクタのインピーダンスが総体的に上降される。スロットはまた、レセプタクル158近傍の板内を流れる電流を流す機能も果たし、信号路となる。信号路近傍において帰器電流が高くなるとクロストークが低減される。
各レセプタクル接触子410A…410Hはまた伝送領域424及びテール領域426を含んでいる。図4は等間隔に隔置された伝送領域424を図示している。この構成は、接触子間の間隔が最大になることからシングルエンド信号には好適なものとなる。
図6は、本発明の代替実施例に使用するのに適したレセプタクル接触子ブランク600を図示している。レセプタクル610A…610Hは対にグループ分けされている。即ち、(610Aと610B)、(610Cと610D)、(610Eと610F)及び(610Gと610H)である。各対の伝送領域624は差動インピーダンスを維持しつつ、でき得る限り一体に接近させる。これにより隣接する対の間の間隔が増大する。この構成は差動信号の信号保全性即ちインテグリティを改善する。
本発明により作製したコネクタを試験した。試験はシングルエンドの構成のものに就いてなされ、10本の近接したラインから成る1本の信号ラインに就いてなされた。信号の立ち上がり時間が500psの場合のクロストークは4.9%であった。前方へのクロストークは3.2%であった。反射は測定に値しないくらい小さなものであった。コネクタの実信号密度は1リニアインチ当たり101であった。
Claims (13)
- 電気コネクタにおいて、
互いに平行に且つ互いに位置を揃えて配設された複数のウェファーを備え、それら複数のウェファーの各々は、
a)シールド板を備え、
b)モールド成形によって前記シールド板の一部分がその内部に埋設されるように形成された第1絶縁性ハウジングを備え、該第1絶縁性ハウジングには複数のキャビティが形成されており、
c)インサートモールド成形によって第2絶縁性ハウジングの内部に埋設された複数の信号レセプタクル接触子を備え、該複数の信号レセプタクル接触子の各々が、前記複数のキャビティの1つずつに収容されている、
ことを特徴とする電気コネクタ。 - a)前記複数のウェファーのうちの一部のウェファーにおいて、各ウェファーの前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子の間隔が等間隔とされており、
b)前記複数のウェファーのうちの一部のウェファーにおいて、各ウェファーの前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子が2つずつ対にされており、対を成す2つの前記信号レセプタクル接触子の間の間隔が、互いに異なる対に含まれている前記信号レセプタクル接触子どうしの間の間隔より狭くされている、
ことを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。 - 前記複数のウェファーの全てにおいて、各ウェファーの前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子の間隔が等間隔とされていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記複数のウェファーの全てにおいて、各ウェファーの前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子が2つずつ対にされており、対を成す2つの前記信号レセプタクル接触子の間の間隔が、互いに異なる対に含まれている前記信号レセプタクル接触子どうしの間の間隔より狭くされていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- a)各々の前記シールド板が、係止部を備えており、
b)各々の前記第2絶縁性ハウジングが、前記シールド板の前記係止部に係合する係合部を備えている、
ことを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。 - 前記第2絶縁性ハウジングが、前記第1絶縁性ハウジングと係合するための係合手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- 更に、金属製補強体を備えており、該金属製補強体に、前記複数のウェファーが取り付けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- 前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子が、印刷回路板に接続するためのテール部を夫々に有しており、それらテール部は、互いに平行に前記ウェファーから延出しており、更に、各々の前記シールド板が、前記複数の信号レセプタクル接触子の夫々の前記テール部と平行に延在して前記ウェファーから延出している複数のテール部を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- 各々の前記シールド板から延出している前記複数のテール部は、当該シールド板の第1領域に取り付けられており、各々の前記シールド板の前記第1領域は、当該シールド板のうちの前記絶縁性ハウジングの内部に埋設されている部分に対して平行に、だだし、当該埋設部分の延展平面とは異なる平面内を延展していることを特徴とする請求項8記載の電気コネクタ。
- 各々の前記キャビティを画成している壁面に、貫通穴が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- a)各々の前記キャビティの一方の壁面に、当該壁面から延出したプラットフォームが形成されており、
b)各々の前記信号レセプタクル接触子が、一対の脚を備えており、
c)各々の前記一対の脚のうちの第1脚は前記プラットフォームの第1側に位置しており、各々の前記一対の脚のうちの第2脚は前記プラットフォームの前記第1側とは反対側の第2側に位置している、
ことを特徴とする請求項9記載の電気コネクタ。 - 各々の前記ウェファーにおける前記第1絶縁性ハウジングは、互いに隣接する2つの前記ウェファーの間に1つずつのキャビティを画成するような形状に形成されており、前記キャビティの一方の内壁面は、互いに隣接する2つの前記ウェファーのうちの一方の前記シールド板により画成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の電気コネクタ。
- 各々の前記シールド板が、当該シールド板に取り付けられた複数のフィンガーを有しており、それら複数のフィンガーが前記キャビティ内へ突出していることを特徴とする請求項12記載の電気コネクタ。
