Description
本明細書の関連では、以下の各用語又は語句は、以下の1つ又は複数の意味を含むことになる。
3つの市販の超吸収性材料の各々に、本明細書で後に説明するように「遠心保持容量(CRC)試験」、「荷重下吸収性(AUL)試験」、自由膨潤「ゲルベッド透過率(GBP)試験」、及び「荷重下ゲルベッド透過率(GBP)試験」が行われた。試験した超吸収性材料の2つは、米国ノースカロライナ州グリーンズボロ所在の「Stockhausen,Inc.」からそれぞれ型式名称「Favor 880」及び「SXM 9543」で市販されている。他の試験した超吸収性材料は、米国ミシガン州ミッドランド所在の「Dow Chemical」から型式名称「Drytech 2035」で市販されている。試験結果は、以下の表1に報告する。
別の実験では、表面処理を行っていない「Stockhausen,Inc.」から入手可能な「SXM 9543」超吸収性材料に対して本明細書で後に説明する「CRC試験」、0.9psi(6.2kPa)での「AUL試験」、「自由膨潤GBP試験」、及び「荷重下GBP試験」が行われた。次に、本発明による表面処理された吸収性材料が以下のように作られた。蒸留水1,210グラムをカナダオンタリオ州ニューヨーク所在の「Hobart Canada」により製造される1ガロン「Hobarts(登録商標)」混合機型番N50に注入し、次に、混合機を比較的低速(設定1)で撹拌しながら、米国ノースカロライナ州シャーロット所在のBASFから型式名称「CATIOFAST VFH」の下で入手可能な溶液54グラムを混合機に加えた。
本明細書で用いる場合、「自由膨潤ゲルベッド透過率(GBP)試験」は、一般的に「自由膨潤」条件と呼ばれる条件の下でゲル粒子(例えば、表面処理済み吸収性材料又は表面処理前の超吸収性材料など)の膨潤ベッドの透過率を判断するものである。「自由膨潤」という用語は、これから説明するように試験溶液を吸収する時に制限荷重なしにゲル粒子が膨潤することができることを意味する。「ゲルベッド透過率試験」に適切な装置は、図1及び図2に全体的に28で示されている。試験装置28には、全体的に30で示すサンプル容器及び全体的に36で示すピストンが含まれる。ピストン36には、シャフトの縦方向軸線に下向きに穿孔された同心の円筒形穴40を有する円筒形「LEXAN」シャフト38が含まれる。シャフト38の両端を機械加工し、それぞれ42及び46で示す上端及び下端を設ける。48で示す重りが一端42に載せられており、それは、少なくともその中心の一部分を通って穿孔された円筒形の穴48を有する。
本明細書で用いる場合、「荷重下ゲルベッド透過率(GBP)試験」は、本明細書ではそれ以外に0.3psiでのGBPとも呼ばれ、一般的に「荷重下」条件と呼ばれる条件下でゲル粒子(例えば、本明細書で用いられる時の用語である超吸収性材料又は吸収性材料)の膨潤ベッドの透過率を判断するものである。「荷重下」という用語は、着用者が座ったり、歩いたり、捻ったりする時のように粒子に加えられる通常の使用時荷重とほぼ一致する荷重により粒子の膨潤が制限されることを意味する。
「荷重下吸収性(AUL)試験」は、材料を0.9psi荷重下にしながら、ゲル粒子サンプル(例えば、表面処理済み吸収性材料又は表面処理前の超吸収性材料など)が室温の塩化ナトリウムの0.9重量パーセント蒸留水溶液(試験溶液)を吸収する機能を測定するものである。「AUL試験」を行うための装置106を図3に示しており、全体的に100で示す「要求吸収性試験器(DAT)」を含み、これは、米国マサチューセッツ州ダナーズ所在のM/K・システムズから入手可能な「重量分析吸収性試験システム(GATS)」及び「INDA技術シンポジウム抄録集」、1974年3月の129〜142頁にLichsteinにより説明されたシステムに類似している。
「遠心保持容量(CRC)試験」では、ゲル粒子(例えば、表面処理済み吸収性材料又は表面処理される前の超吸収性材料など)を飽和し、制御した条件下で遠心分離が行われた後に液体をその内部に保持する機能を測定する。得られる保持容量は、サンプルのグラム重量あたりの保持された液体のグラム(g/g)で表される。試験されるサンプルは、米国標準30メッシュスクリーンを通して事前に篩い分けされ、米国標準50メッシュスクリーン上に保持された粒子から調製される。その結果、サンプルには、約300〜約600ミクロンの範囲の大きさの粒子が含まれる。粒子は、手動又は自動で事前に篩い分けすることができ、試験するまで密封気密容器に保存される。

Claims (7)
- 少なくとも部分的に架橋ポリマーを含む吸収性材料であって、
a)ポリ(アクリル酸)からなる、少なくとも75重量パーセントの超吸収性ポリマーと、
b)内部架橋剤と
を含み、前記超吸収性ポリマーは中和の程度が少なくとも50%であり、前記a)とb)に規定する成分がポリマー化されて超吸収性ポリマー粒子にされており、
さらに、超吸収性材料の重量基準で0.5%から5%までの範囲の非架橋ポリ(ビニルアミン)からなる表面処理剤によって前記超吸収性ポリマー粒子が表面処理されており、 「遠心保持容量試験」による判定で少なくとも20g/gの遠心保持容量を有し、「荷重下ゲルベッド透過率試験」による判定で少なくとも200×10-9cm2の荷重下ゲルベッド透過率を有し、0.9psi(6.2kPa)の荷重のもとでの荷重下吸収性試験の値を遠心保持容量で割った値と定義されるゲル剛性指数が少なくとも0.9である、
ことを特徴とする吸収性材料。 - 前記「荷重下ゲルベッド透過率試験」による判定で少なくとも400×10-9cm2の荷重下ゲルベッド透過率を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の吸収性材料。
- 「遠心保持容量試験」による判定で少なくとも25g/gの遠心保持容量を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の吸収性材料。
- 「自由膨潤ゲルベッド透過率試験」による判定で少なくとも2,000×10-9cm2の自由膨潤ゲルベッド透過率を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の吸収性材料。
- 「自由膨潤ゲルベッド透過率試験」による判定で少なくとも3,000×10-9cm2の自由膨潤ゲルベッド透過率を有することを特徴とする請求項4に記載の吸収性材料。
- 請求項1に記載の吸収性材料と親水性繊維及び疎水性繊維の少なくとも一方とを含むことを特徴とする吸収性構造体。
- 前記吸収性材料は、吸収性材料の重量で5パーセント〜90パーセントの範囲であることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の吸収性構造体。
