Description
[発明の要旨]
図1に示すように、この発明の1つの態様は、大きな径のカテーテルが患者の血管に挿入されたときに起きる虚血を少なくするように設計された多管腔カテーテルである。この多管腔カテーテルは、好ましくは、一体的に形成されており、患者の体内への挿入点として1箇所だけ必要とする。多管腔カテーテル10は、少なくとも2つの管腔、即ち、第1管腔12および第2管腔14を備えている。第1管腔12は多管腔カテーテル10の近端部16から第1遠端部18に延伸している。第2管腔14は多管腔カテーテル10の近端部16から第2遠端部20に延伸している。多管腔カテーテル10の管腔12、14は、多くの異なる方法に従って配置される。例えば、2つの管腔は、近端部16側から見ると8の字を形成するように、並列に配置して接合される。別の方法では、単一の円筒形カテーテルハウジングがその中に2以上の並列配置された管腔を備えている。円筒形カテーテルハウジングは、直径方向の隔膜、即ち、円筒の全体にわたって直径方向に延びた壁面を備えて形成されている。同心円の複数の管腔を備えた円筒形ハウジングも考えられる。

- 患者の心臓に如何なる部品も接続せず、患者を通って血液の循環を補助する心臓外ポンプシステムであって、
多管腔カテーテルを貫通する少なくも2つの管腔(708、716)を有する前記多管腔カテーテル(704)を備え、各管腔(708、716)は、患者の脈管構造に挿入される遠端部(712、720)および近端部(710、718)有し、前記管腔(708、716)の少なくとも2つはそれぞれの近端部(710、718)において互いに流体連通しており、
更に、1つの前記管腔(708)の中に固定されて、患者を通ってサブカーディアック流量で血液を送るポンプ(706)を備え、前記ポンプ(706)は、通常作動時の平均流量が、患者健康時の心臓によるものより実質的に少なくて、前記各管腔(708、716)の近端部(710,718)が患者の体外にある状態で、血液を患者の脈管構造のある位置から別の位置に送出するように作動し、
