相等しい時間領域A4MS4を有するアドレッシング時間(図5のA4)と混合ディスプレイ維持時間(図5のMS4)において、アドレッシング時間A4でのアドレッシング動作と混合ディスプレイ維持時間MS4でのディスプレイ維持動作は交互になされる。例えば、第1単位時間では第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG1に対するアドレッシング段階AG1が進行する。第4サブフィールドSF4の階調加重値に比例した第2単位時間ではアドレッシングが完了した第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG1に対するディスプレイ維持段階S11が進行する。第3単位時間では第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループに対するアドレッシング段階AG2が進行する。第4サブフィールドSF4の階調加重値に比例した第4単位時間ではアドレッシングが完了した第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG1、YG2に対するディスプレイ維持段階S12、S21が同時に進行する。第5単位時間では第3ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG3に対するアドレッシング段階AG3が進行する。第4サブフィールドSF4の階調加重値に比例した第6単位時間ではアドレッシングが完了した第1ないし第3ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG1ないしYG3に対するディスプレイ維持段階S13、S22、S31が同時に進行する。このような過程を一般化すれば、相等しい時間領域A4MS4を有するアドレッシング時間(図5のA4)と混合ディスプレイ維持時間(図5のMS4)において、奇数番目の単位時間TAごとにそれぞれのディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループYG1ないしYG8に対してアドレッシング動作が行われ、アドレッシング動作が完了したディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループまたはグループに対して第4サブフィールドSF4の階調加重値に比例した偶数番号目の単位時間TIごとにディスプレイ維持動作が行われる。

Claims (7)
- ディスプレイ電極ライン対が平行に形成され、アドレス電極ラインが前記ディスプレイ電極ライン対と離隔及び交差するように形成される放電ディスプレイパネルにおいて、複数のサブフィールドを単位フレームに含めて時分割駆動により階調ディスプレイを行うが、少なくとも一つのディスプレイ電極ライン対が一つのディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループに含まれるように前記ディスプレイ電極ライン対を少なくとも第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループにグループ化して駆動する放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法において、
前記それぞれのサブフィールドが、
前記第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうちから選択されたディスプレイセルに所定の壁電圧が生成される第1アドレッシング時間と、
前記第1アドレッシング時間が終了されれば、前記第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうち前記選択されたディスプレイセルで前記それぞれのサブフィールドの階調加重値に比例した時間の間にディスプレイ維持放電が起きる第1ディスプレイ維持時間と、
前記第1ディスプレイ維持時間が終了されれば、前記第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうちから選択されたディスプレイセルに所定の壁電圧が生成される第2アドレッシング時間と、
前記第2アドレッシング時間が終了されれば、前記第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうち前記選択されたディスプレイセルで前記それぞれのサブフィールドの階調加重値に比例した時間の間にディスプレイ維持放電が起きる第2ディスプレイ維持時間と、
それぞれのサブフィールドが、
前記アドレッシング時間の開始前に前記少なくとも第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのあらゆるディスプレイセルの電荷状態が均一になるリセット時間と、
それぞれのサブフィールドの、共通ディスプレイ維持時間が終了されれば、前記第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうちから前記選択されたディスプレイセルが前記サブフィールドの階調加重値に比例した時間の間にディスプレイ維持放電を連続して起こす補正時間と、
を含む放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記第1ディスプレイ維持時間で、
前記第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルに交流電圧が印加される請求項1に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記交流電圧によって前記第1ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループの選択されたディスプレイセルで起きる放電の回数が前記それぞれのサブフィールドの階調加重値に比例する請求項2に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記第2ディスプレイ維持時間で、
前記第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルに交流電圧が印加される請求項1に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記交流電圧によって前記第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループの選択されたディスプレイセルで起きる放電の回数が前記それぞれのサブフィールドの階調加重値に比例する請求項4に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
- 前記それぞれのサブフィールドが、
前記第2ディスプレイ維持時間が終了されれば、前記サブフィールドの階調加重値の時間のうちから前記第1及び第2ディスプレイ維持時間を差し引いた残り時間の間に、前記第1及び第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうちから前記選択されたディスプレイセルがディスプレイ維持放電を起こす共通ディスプレイ維持時間をさらに含む請求項1に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。 - 前記それぞれのサブフィールドが、
前記第2ディスプレイ維持時間が終了されれば、前記第2ディスプレイ電極−ライン対グループのディスプレイセルのうちから前記選択されたディスプレイセルが前記サブフィールドの階調加重値に比例した時間の間にディスプレイ維持放電を起こす補正時間をさらに含む請求項1に記載の放電ディスプレイパネルの駆動方法。
