Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】この発明は、熱可塑性高分子材料
製管類を接続する電気融着継手の製造方法に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】高分子材料、特に熱可塑性の樹脂または
ゴムからなる管類、継手類または弁栓類等を、漏洩など
が起こらないように接続して、円滑な配管施工を可能に
するためには、それぞれの接続部を密に封じる必要があ
る。ところが、たとえば、ABS樹脂、ポリ塩化ビニ
ル、ポリスチレンなどの限られた高分子材料に対しては
それぞれに適した接着剤が開発されていて、それらを接
続部に適宜塗布して硬化させれば、容易に目的を果たす
ことができるが、ポリオレフィン、ポリアミド、ポリア
セタール、フッ素含有樹脂など多くのものに対しては適
当な接着剤は未だ得られていない。そこで、このような
接着剤のない高分子材料に対しては、接続する部分を外
熱法(火炎または管状炉など)によって硬化もしくは溶
融させて冷却しない間に一気に接合させ、冷却固化させ
る方法が採られている。しかし、このような外熱方法で
は均一に加熱することおよび適当な軟化もしくは溶融の
状態に調整維持することがきわめて難しく、良い結果が
得られない。
【0003】そこで、例えば特願平1−10689号に
おいて、互に接触することなく平行して螺旋(らせん)
状に巻き上げられた線状発熱体が、中空の筒状体に成形
された熱可塑性高分子材料層の中に封入された状態にあ
るジョイント用スリーブが開示されている。しかし、こ
のジョイント用スリーブを使用する場合に、ジョイント
部にスリーブを挿入して、管類を接続し、その状態を維
持しながら通電して融着させた後冷却固化させることな
どに複雑な操作と長い時間が必要であるなどの欠点があ
る。
【0004】そこで、例えば、特願平2−2793号に
開示されているように、被覆発熱線状体コイルを予め継
手内に一体成形したり、或は特願平2−188821号
に開示されているように被覆発熱線状体コイルで形成し
たスリーブを継手類と一体成形しておくことが提案され
ている。

【発明の課題】しかしながら、上記のようなコイル又は
スリーブをインサート成形するのは、技術的に非常に難
しく、コスト高で、精度の高い製品を得ることが困難で
ある。
【0006】そこで、この発明の課題は、極めて簡単な
工程で高精度の電気融着継手を得ることができる製造方
法を提供することである。

【課題の解決手段】上記の課題を解決するため、この発
明においては、被覆線状発熱体コイルによって形成する
スリーブを、射出成形した直後の継手類の内部に挿入し
て継手類の冷却固化によって継手類にスリーブを一体化
すると共に、スリーブには隣接する発熱体の被覆材同志
を融着させる被覆融着部と、外端部外周に形成するカラ
ーを、また継手類内周面にカラーに対応する周溝を設け
た方法を採用したものである

【作用】継手類を射出成形して型から取り出した直後に
は、いまだ完全に固化されておらず、この継手類の内部
にスリーブを挿入した後、完全に冷却させると継手類が
収縮するため、スリーブが圧縮保持されるもので、継手
類にスリーブ挿入時にはスリーブの適正姿勢を保って確
実に挿入して、継手類とスリーブとの正確且つ確実な一
体化を図るものである

【実施例】以下、この発明の実施例を添付図面に基づい
て説明する。
【0010】まで、スリーブの形成方法について説明す
る。
【0011】図1に示すように、マンドレルMに被覆線
状発熱体1を二つ折りにして巻き付ける。
【0012】内蔵される発熱線2はたとえばニクロム
線、炭素繊維のように通電すれば発熱する性質を有する
素材からなる線状のものであり、また、このような発熱
線2を被覆する熱可塑性高分子材料被覆材は接続しよう
とする管類の材質と同系のもの、または親和性の大きい
ものが望ましい。具体的には、ABS樹脂、ポリ塩化ビ
ニル、ポリスチレン、ポリオレフィン、ポリアミド、ポ
リアセタール、フッ素樹脂などを例示することができ
る。そして、これら被覆材に内蔵される発熱線の本数は
特に限定するものではないが、1本または2本が実用的
である。しかし、1本の発熱線を内蔵する被覆線状体を
単独で螺旋に巻くと、その端子は螺旋コイルの両端に位
置することになり、接続しようとする管類の外部に一端
を取り出させても、他の端を同じように外部に取り出す
ことは容易ではないという問題点がある。したがって、
1本の発熱線を内蔵する被覆線状体であっても、それを
図1のように二つ折りに曲げるか、または別個の被覆線
状体を2本平行かつ密着させて(両被覆線状体の発熱線
の一端同志を接続する必要はあるが)螺旋状に巻けば、
二つの端子を同じ方向に取り出すことは可能となる。こ
れに対して、2本の発熱線2が予め内蔵されている被覆
線状体であれば、図2に示すように、被覆線状体1の一
端を露呈する2本の発熱線2を適宜結線するのみで、よ
り簡単な操作によって両端子を螺旋コイルの同じ場所に
取り出すことができるので好都合である。いずれにして
も被覆材層の厚み、螺旋の径などは、配管施工の際に対
象となる管類の寸法、形状等に応じて、線状発熱体1の
寸法などと共に適宜選定すればよく、特に限定されるも
のではない。ただ、螺旋状に巻かれた被覆線状体の被覆
が加熱されて、被覆材が軟化溶融したときでも隣接して
いる線状発熱体同志が移動して接触したり交差したりし
ないように一定の間隙を維持できるためには、特に2本
の発熱線を内蔵する被覆線状体の場合には、丸形より平
形とすることが望ましい。

熱線2に通電すると、熱可塑性高分子材料から成る被覆
が溶融して、隣接する線状体1が互に接合され、螺旋コ
イルCは一体のスリーブSとなる。

ポリエチレンの場合150℃程度)に別途加熱された熱
器具(従来プラスチックの溶接に用いられる熱風溶接、
熱棒、熱刃もしくは熱板溶接、インパルス溶接、高周波
溶接、超音波溶接などいずれの溶接方法であってもよい
が、最も簡便で設備費も少なくて好ましいのは内熱式若
しくは外熱式の熱板である。)を螺旋コイルの周方向の
少なくとも1箇所に接触させて図2及び図3に示すよう
に、被覆融着部3を設けるとスリーブSが得られる。螺
旋コイルの表面に熱器具が触れると被覆材は直ちに溶融
し、隣接する被覆材同志がその部分で融着し、熱器具が
遠のくと直ちに冷却して固化する。したがって、前記の
被覆線状体全体を通電によって加熱溶融しさらに冷却す
る技術と比較すれば溶融したり冷却したりする樹脂量は
きわめて少ないので、被覆融着部3の形成に要する時間
を非常に短縮することができる。
【0015】このようにしてスリーブSを用意してお
き、管継手を射出成形する。管継手の形状は、例えば図
4又は図5に示すもののほかに、T字形、十字形等いず
れでもよい。材質も前記のような熱可塑性高分子材料か
ら適宜選択すればよい。
【0016】管継手Aを成形した直後に、予め用意した
スリーブSを継手内に挿入する。このとき、継手の収縮
率を考慮に入れて、予め継手の内径に対するスリーブの
外径を定めておくのは勿論のことである。
【0017】スリーブを挿入後、継手Aが冷却固化する
まで放置する。期間は3日程度である。
【0018】なお、図示のように、スリーブSの外端部
外周に予めカラー4を形成しておき、継手Aの内周面に
前記カラー4に対応する周溝4aを形成しておくのが好
ましい。
【0019】出来上がった継手A内には、スリーブSが
しっかりと保持され、ガタが全くなく取り扱い中に脱落
することもなかった。

【効果】この発明によれば、以上のように、射出成形直
後の管継手内に線状発熱体コイルから成るスリーブを挿
入することによって電気融着継手を形成したので、イン
サート成形のような複雑な装置を必要とせず、極めて簡
単な操作で線状発熱体を内蔵した管継手を製造すること
ができ、しかも得られた製品は高精度でかつ堅牢である
等の利点を有するもので、特に継手類に対するスリーブ
の挿入時には被覆融着部によってスリーブ形状を崩すこ
となく適正に保ち、また挿入後はカラーと周溝との嵌合
によってガタなく確実にスリーブを継手類内に保持し、
取扱い中のスリーブの脱落なども防止してこの製造精度
を一層向上させることができる。

    (57)【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 被覆線状発熱体コイルによって形成する
    スリーブを、射出成形した直後の継手類の内部に挿入し
    て継手類の冷却固化によって継手類にスリーブを一体化
    すると共に、スリーブには隣接する発熱体の被覆材同志
    を融着させる被覆融着部と、外端部外周に形成するカラ
    ーを、また継手類内周面にカラーに対応する周溝を設け
    ことを特徴とする電気融着継手の製造方法。
