Abstract
Description
アクティブ液晶フィルム層としてゲスト-ホストアクティブ液晶フィルム層(セルギャップ:約12μm、基材フィルム層の種類:PET(poly(ethylene terephthalate)フィルム)、液晶/染料混合物の種類:Merck社のMAT-16-969液晶と異方性染料(BASF社、X12)の混合物)とPVA(polyvinylalcohol)フィルム系偏光層(厚さ:約100μm)を2枚の外郭基板の間で熱可塑性ポリウレタン接着フィルム(厚さ:約0.38mm、メーカー:Argotec社、製品名:ArgoFlex)でカプセル化し、光学デバイスを製造した。
実施例1と同じ方式で光学デバイスを製造するが、偏光層を段差形成層に適用せず、別途の高分子フィルムを段差形成層に適用して光学デバイスを製造した。実施例2では、偏光層としてアクティブ液晶フィルム層と横及び縦の長さが同じフィルム(幅:約850mm、縦:約600mm程度)を適用した。前記段差形成層を形成する高分子フィルムとしては、PET(poly(ethylene terephthalate))フィルムを適用し、前記PETフィルムが持つ非等方性を考慮してアクティブ液晶フィルム層の外郭にも別途の高分子フィルムを配置した。追加されたフィルムは、上部観察時に横の長さが約830mmであり、縦の長さが約580mm程度であり、厚さは、約40~95μmの範囲であった。前記偏光層とPETフィルムを除いて、他の構成は、実施例1と同じものを用いた。
偏光層として、アクティブ液晶フィルム層と横及び縦の長さが同一の同じ面積のPVAフィルムを適用したことを除いては、実施例1と同様に光学デバイスを製造した。
Claims (14)
- 対向配置された第1及び第2の外郭基板と、
前記第1及び第2の外郭基板の間でカプセル化剤によりカプセル化されたアクティブ液晶フィルム層および段差形成層とを有し、
前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層は、前記段差形成層により押されている領域と押されていない領域を含む、光学デバイス。 - 前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層は、対向配置された2層の基材フィルム層と、前記基材フィルム層の間隙に存在する液晶物質を含む、請求項1に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記基材フィルム層の間隙には、異方性染料がさらに存在する、請求項2に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の対向配置された前記2層の基材フィルム層の間隔が前記段差形成層により押されている領域と押されていない領域で互いに異なる、請求項2または3に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記段差形成層により押されている領域における前記基材フィルム層の間隔(G1)と押されていない領域における前記基材フィルム層の間隔(G2)の割合(100×[G1/G2])が10%~95%の範囲内である、請求項4に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の面積(A1)と前記段差形成層の面積(A2)の割合(100×[A2/A1])が70%~98%の範囲内である、請求項1から5の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記段差形成層により押されている前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の領域が光変調領域を形成する、請求項1から6の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記段差形成層により押されていない前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の領域が前記段差形成層により押されている前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の領域の少なくとも一つの端に存在する、請求項1から7の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記段差形成層により押されていない前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の領域は、前記段差形成層により押されている前記アクティブ液晶フィルム層の領域の周辺でベゼルを形成している、請求項1から8の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記段差形成層は、透明高分子フィルム層、可塑性樹脂層または硬化樹脂層である、請求項1から9の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記第1及び第2の外郭基板の間でカプセル化剤によりカプセル化された偏光層をさらに含む、請求項1~10の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記偏光層が前記段差形成層である、請求項11に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記第1及び第2の外郭基板のうち少なくとも一つの基板は、曲面基板である、請求項1から12の何れか一項に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記第1及び第2の外郭基板の曲率の差が10%以内である、請求項13に記載の光学デバイス。
