Abstract
Description
しかし、SOFC普及に向けて、作動温度(現状の作動温度:750℃)の低温化が鍵となっている。低温化(例えば、600℃)によって、(1)セルの耐久性向上(化学安定性)、(2)安価な筐体(安価なステンレス鋼)の使用、(3)起動停止時間の短縮、が可能となる。
これに対し、メリライト構造を持つ酸化物からなる固体電解質(メリライト電解質)は、対称性の低い結晶構造を持ち、特定方向に高いイオン伝導度を示す。そのため、低温作動のSOFC用の電解質として、メリライト電解質が検討されている。
(1)LaSrGa3O7(非特許文献1)、
(2)La1.54Sr0.46Ga3O7.27(非特許文献2)、
(3)La1.64Ca0.36Ga3O7.32(非特許文献3)、
(4)La1.5Ca0.5Ga3O7.25(非特許文献4)、
(5)(A1+xB1-x)GaGa2O7+x/2(但し、0≦x≦0.5;A=La、Nd;B=Ca、Sr)(非特許文献5)、
などが知られている。
メリライト構造を有し、次の(1)式で表される組成を有することを要旨とする。
La2-yMyX3-zMgzO7+α ・・・(1)
但し、
Mは、Mg以外のアルカリ土類金属元素、
Xは、3価の金属元素、
0<y<2、0<z<3、αは、電気的中性が保たれる値。
さらに、元素Xの一部をMgで置換すると、低温における伝導度がさらに向上する。これは、元素Xに比べて、酸素との電気陰性度差が大きく、かつ、価数が小さいMgをドープすることによって、キャリアーとなる酸素イオンが格子内でさらに動きやすい状態となるためと考えられる。
[1. 固体電解質]
本発明に係る固体電解質は、メリライト構造を有し、次の(1)式で表される組成を有する。
La2-yMyX3-zMgzO7+α ・・・(1)
但し、
Mは、Mg以外のアルカリ土類金属元素、
Xは、3価の金属元素、
0<y<2、0<z<3、αは、電気的中性が保たれる値。
図1に、元素MがSrであり、元素XがGaであるメリライト電解質の結晶構造の模式図を示す。メリライト電解質は、Ga−O配位4面体(X−O配位4面体)が2次元的に繋がったGa−O層(X−O層)と、Ga−O層の層間に挿入されたLa及びSr(元素M)とを備えている。Ga−O配位4面体の中心にはGa原子があり、頂点には酸素原がある。図1に示すメリライト電解質において、酸素イオンはGa−O層に沿って拡散しやすい。そのため、Ga−O層に平行方向のイオン伝導度は、垂直方向のイオン伝導度に比べて高くなる。
O(4)は、Ga−O層内に存在する格子間酸素であり、イオン伝導源となっている。O(4)量は、La/Sr比に依存する。つまり、La/Sr比が大きいほど、O(4)量が多く、イオン伝導度も高くなる。Sr以外の元素Mも同様であり、2価の元素Mに対し、3価のLa量が多いほど、格子内の酸素量(O(4))が増える。La/Sr比を変えられる理由は、La、Srのイオン半径が、それぞれ、1.13Å(0.113nm)、1.21Å(0.121nm)であり、また、電気陰性度が、それぞれ、1.03、0.99であり、イオン半径及び電気陰性度の値がほぼ同じであるからである。
一方、Ga(2)−O配位4面体の中心が4eサイトであり、4eサイトは、Ga(2)(元素X(2))及びMgにより占有される。Ga(2)及びMgは、4eサイトを任意の比率で占有することができる。
層間のサイトがLaサイトであり、Laサイトは、La及びSr(元素M)により占有される。La及びSr(元素M)は、Laサイトを任意の比率で占有することができる。
元素Mは、Mg以外のアルカリ土類金属元素(Be、Ca、Sr、Ba、Ra)を表す。メリライト電解質は、1種類の元素Mを含んでいても良く、あるいは、2種以上を含んでいても良い。
元素Mを含むメリライト電解質は、高いイオン伝導度を示す。これは、Laの一部を元素Mで置換することによって、O(4)量が増えるためである。
特に、元素MとしてSrを含むメリライト電解質は、高いイオン伝導度を示す。これは、イオン半径及び電気陰性度がLaに近く、La/M比を最適化するのが容易であるためである。
なお、Mgは、アルカリ土類金属元素であるが、Laサイトを占有することはない。これは、イオン半径や電気陰性度が関係していると考えられる。
元素Xは、3価の金属元素を表す。元素Xとしては、例えば、Ga、Al、Inなどがある。メリライト電解質は、1種類の元素Xを含んでいても良く、あるいは、2種以上を含んでいても良い。
元素Xを含むメリライト電解質は、高いイオン伝導度を示す。これは、元素Xを含むメリライト電解質は、キャリアーとなる酸素イオン(O(4)イオン)が格子内で動きやすいためと考えられる。
特に、元素XとしてGa及び/又はAlを含むメリライト電解質は、高いイオン伝導度を示す。なお、Ga−OよりAl−Oの方がイオン結合が強いので、Ga含有メリライトよりAl含有メリライトの方が、高イオン伝導性を示す可能性がある。
yは、Laサイトを占有する元素Mの割合を表す。yは、メリライト結晶構造を維持できる限りにおいて、0<y<2の範囲内の値を取ることができる。
一方、La/M比が過剰になると、かえってイオン伝導度が低下する。従って、La/M比は、4.0以下が好ましい。La/M比は、さらに好ましくは、3.5以下である。
zは、Mgのドープ量を表す。zは、メリライト構造を維持できる限りにおいて、0<z<3の範囲内の値を取ることができる。
Mgのドープ量の上限は、La/M比に依存する。一般に、La/M比が大きくなるほど、ドープ可能なMg量が少なくなる。過剰に添加されたMgは、MgOとしてメリライト電解質中に分散し、イオン伝導度を低下させる原因となる。従って、zは、0.20以下が好ましい。zは、さらに好ましくは、0.15以下である。
αは、メリライト電解質の電気的中性が保たれる値を表す。αは、極端な還元雰囲気下で材料合成を行わない限り、メリライト電解質に含まれるカチオンの比率でほぼ決まる。
αは、形式的には、(1−y−z)/2と表せる。しかし、実際には、酸素空孔の形成等により、理論値より若干増減することがある。
本発明に係る固体電解質は、
(a)金属元素の量が所定の比率となるように原料を混合し、
(b)混合粉を固相反応(仮焼)させることにより、目的とする結晶相を生成させ、
(c)仮焼粉を成形し、
(d)成形体を酸化雰囲気下において焼結させる
ことにより製造することができる。
各工程の条件は、特に限定されるものではなく、固体電解質の組成に応じて最適な条件を選択するのが好ましい。
La及び3価の金属元素(X)を含むメリライト電解質は、対称性の低い結晶構造を持ち、イオン伝導度に異方性がある。このようなメリライト電解質において、Laの一部を元素Mで置換し、かつ、La/M比を最適化すると、低温における伝導度が向上する。これは、結晶構造内の酸素イオンの内、キャリアーとなる酸素イオン(O(4)イオン)の量が増加するためと考えられる。
さらに、元素Xは3価であるのに対し、Mgは2価である。そのため、価数が元素Xより小さいMgをドープすると、メリライト電解質中の酸素空孔の量が増大する。
その結果、これらの効果により、キャリアーとなる酸素イオンが格子内でさらに動きやすい状態となると考えられる。
[1. 試料の作製]
[1.1. 原料混合及び仮焼]
原料として、炭酸ストロンチウム、酸化ランタン、酸化ガリウム、及び酸化マグネシウムを使用した。組成がLa2-ySryGa3-zMgzO7+α(y=0.7〜0.46、z=0〜0.04)となるように原料を計量した。これをφ2mmのジルコニアボールが入った500ccポットに入れ、さらに250ccのエタノールを投入した。ボールミル法によって15時間攪拌し、粉砕混合した。
混合後、80℃下でエタノール蒸留、及び粉体の乾燥を15時間行った。次に、ボールと乾燥粉の混合物をふるい(60メッシュ)にかけ、混合粉を分離させた。
粉砕後、80℃下でエタノール蒸留、及び粉体の乾燥を15時間行った。次に、ボールと仮焼粉の混合物をふるい(60メッシュ)にかけ、仮焼粉を分離した。
添加剤を加えた仮焼粉1.5gを、2cmφの錠剤成型器に入れ、油圧プレス(プレス圧:26kN)により2cmφのペレットを作製した。2cmφのペレットを大気中、1400℃×50時間、加熱炉で反応させ、1.7cmφ(厚さ:1mm)の焼結体を得た。
[2.1. X線回折]
得られた焼結体について、X線回折を行った。また、リートベルト解析を用いて、結晶構造の解析を行った。
[2.2. 伝導度測定]
焼結体の上下面に白金電極を付け、LCRメーターを用いて、2端子で膜厚方向のコンダクタンスを評価した。測定は、大気雰囲気下において、最高800℃まで行った。
[4.1. X線回折]
図2に、La1.35Sr0.65Ga2.96Mg0.04O7.26(実施例1)のXRDパターンを示す。また、表1に、そのリートベルト解析結果を示す。
なお、図2〜図5において、「Iobs」は実測値、「Ical」は計算値、「Iobs−Ical」は実測値と計算値との差をそれぞれ表す。
(1)Mg2+が2aサイトを置換するモデルでは、Mgの占有率が負になること、
(2)Mg2+が4eサイトを置換するモデルでは、Mgの占有率が正になること、及び
(3)Mg2+が2aサイトと4eサイトの双方を置換するモデルでは、Mgの占有率が負になること、
がわかった。
すなわち、リートベルト解析から、Mgは、4eサイトに入ることがわかった。
図6に、メリライト電解質及びYSZの伝導度の温度依存性を示す。また、表5に、各電解質の伝導度を示す。
また、La1.54Sr0.46Ga2.87Mg0.13O7.21、及びLa1.54Sr0.46Ga3O7.37の伝導度(600℃)は、それぞれ、0.0203S/cm、及び、0.019S/cmであり、Mgドープにより伝導度が向上した。
一方、YSZの伝導度(600℃)は、0.0023S/cmであった。
Claims (3)
- メリライト構造を有し、次の(1)式で表される組成を有する固体電解質。
La2-yMyX3-zMgzO7+α ・・・(1)
但し、
Mは、Mg以外のアルカリ土類金属元素、
Xは、3価の金属元素、
0<y<2、0<z<3、αは、電気的中性が保たれる値。 - 前記Xは、Ga及び/又はAlである請求項1に記載の固体電解質。
- 1.9≦(2−y)/y≦4.0、及び、0<z≦0.20をさらに満たす請求項1又は2に記載の固体電解質。
