全ての温度は°Kである。

本明細書における40nm〜500nmの粒子直径は、Brookhaven Instruments粒子サイズ分析器BI−90 PLUS(Brookhaven Instruments Company750 Blue Point Road, Holtsville, NY 11742)で測定されるものである。
サンプルA、組成:80(96.5EA/3.5AA)//20MMAを有する80nm2段エマルジョンポリマーの合成:段階1の理論Tgは−19.04℃であり、段階2の理論Tgは105℃である。
水性分散液中で第1固体ポリマー粒子を作製するための直径0.045μmの架橋固体ポリマー粒子の調製。
サンプルBの粒子を直径0.21μmまで成長させた。
サンプルCの粒子を膨張させて、平均直径0.84μmの第1固体ポリマー粒子を作製した。
2段組成:80(96BA/4ALMA)//20(96MMA/4EA)を有する平均直径5μmのエマルジョンポリマーの合成;1段(ALMAを含まない)の理論Tgは−54.0℃である;2段の理論Tgは97.5℃である。
特に断りのない限り、「装入した」または「添加した」という用語は、混合物のすべてを一度に添加することを意味する。以下の混合物を調製した:
プラスチック容器中でオーバーヘッドスターラーを使用してゆっくりと撹拌しながら成分の混合を実施した。まず、1.63gのACRYSOL(商標)ASE 60およびアンモニア28%(全体で0.27g)の一部を1分間混合した。11.35gのサンプルD(29.72%固形分)を前記ミキサーに連続して撹拌しながら添加し、次いでサンプルA(86.75g)およびアンモニア28%の残りを添加し、そしてさらに2〜3分間撹拌した。最終混合物は透明な水性コーティング組成物であった。
実施例1〜2を作製する手順は、サンプルAおよびCの相対量を変えた以外は比較例Aで記載したものと同じであった。
1.5milバードアプリケーターを用いてLeneta Form 3B不透明度チャート上に水性コーティング組成物を施用した。手持ち式の光沢計を使用して不透明度チャートの黒色部分上で鏡面光沢度を測定した。
この実施例では、第1ポリマー粒子の効果を無機(CaCO3)エキステンダーの効果と対比する。
Claims (9)
- 0.60〜0.99μmの平均直径を有する多段屈折率分布型(grin)組成物コポリマー粒子、0.60〜0.99μmの平均直径を有する多段コポリマー粒子と20℃またはそれ以下の理論ガラス転移温度(Tg)を有するゴム状コア、およびそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される第1固体ポリマー粒子と、
−60℃〜120℃の理論Tgと50nm〜500nmの平均粒子直径を有する第2固体ポリマー粒子とを含み、
前記第1固体ポリマー粒子の前記第2固体ポリマー粒子に対する乾燥重量比が0.15:1〜10:1であり、そして前記水性コーティング組成物が10体積%未満の無機エキステンダー粒子を含む、
水性コーティング組成物。 - 前記第1固体ポリマー粒子が、アクリル多段コポリマー粒子、ビニル多段コポリマー粒子、多段合成ゴムコポリマー粒子、多段ウレタンコポリマー粒子、水分散性グラフトコポリマー粒子、それらの混合物、それらの組み合わせ、および単段架橋(コ)ポリマーとのそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の水性コーティング組成物。
- 前記第1固体ポリマー粒子および前記第2固体ポリマー粒子がアクリルポリマーである、請求項1に記載の水性コーティング組成物。
- 前記第2固体ポリマー粒子が2段アクリルエマルジョンコポリマー粒子である、請求項3に記載の水性コーティング組成物。
- 顔料粒子をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の水性コーティング組成物。
- コーティングを提供するための方法であって、
(a)請求項1に記載の前記水性コーティング組成物を形成し、
(b)前記コーティング組成物を基体に施用し、そして
(c)前記コーティング組成物を乾燥するか、または乾燥させること
を含む、方法。 - 85°鏡面光沢度の20°鏡面光沢度に対する比が33以上である、請求項6に記載の方法によって形成されるコーティング。
- 顔料粒子をさらに含む、請求項7に記載のコーティング。
- 前記コーティングがその臨界顔料体積濃度以下である、請求項8に記載のコーティング。
