Description
a)導光材料の第1層の第1表面に1又はそれ以上の散乱構造を形成すること、及び、 b)導光材料の第1層の第1表面上に、導光材料の第2層を、該1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造が、導光材料の第1層と第2層の界面に位置するように取り付けること、
を含む導光板の製造方法が提供される。
ここでは、第1及び第2の導光層とも呼ばれる、導光材料の第1層及び導光材料の第2層は、光透過性である。好ましくは、導光層は、1又はそれ以上の光源により生成される光に対して透明である。第1の導光層(この層は基板層とも言われる)は、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)、ポリカーボネート又はアクリルのような透明ポリマーシートから形成することができる。第2の導光層は、アクリル、エポキシ又はウレタンを含む、いくつかの好ましいポリマーから形成することができる。第1の導光層及び第2の導光層の厚みは、互いに無関係に、約0.1〜10mmとすることができる。典型的には、導光層の厚みは、約0.1mmのオーダーである。2つの導光層の屈折率は、1.4に等しいか、それより大きくすることができる。2つの導光層の屈折率は、互いに無関係に、約1.4から約1.7までに選択することができる。第1層と第2層の屈折率は、同じでもよく、異なっていてもよい。
1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造は、案内された光の全反射を散乱させる。1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造は、光抽出構造とも言われることもある。この散乱構造の形成は、散乱構造を透明印刷インク中に分散させ、2つの導光層が結合される前に、該インクを1又はそれ以上の導光層表面上に塗布することにより達成することができる。
導光装置は、照明、バックライト、標識、表示目的を含む広い範囲の機能に採用されている。典型的には、公知の導光装置は、射出成型品であるか、又は、機械仕上げされた透明プラスチック部品の端部に、光源が機械的取り付け手段により一体化されることにより構成される。このような装置の例は、国際特許公開WO2005/101070号公報(特許文献1)に記載されており、その内容は、引用により全てここに組み込まれる。
1又はそれ以上の光源は、バックライトの使用に適したものを含め、当業者に知られるどのようなものでもよい。このような光源には、1又はそれ以上のLED、冷陰極管、レーザーダイオード、有機発光ダイオード光源、その他の電気冷光装置が含まれる。光は無指向性とすることができる。
本発明による導光装置は、照明、バックライト、標識、表示目的を含む種々の機能に採用することができる。

Claims (25)
- 導光材料の第1層を含み、該第1層の第1表面上に導光材料の第2層が取り付けられ、導光材料の前記第1層と第2層の界面に1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造が設けられた、
ことを特徴とする導光板。 - 導光材料の前記第1層及び前記第2層が透明ポリマーシートからなる、請求項1に記載の導光板。
- 導光材料の前記第1層及び前記第2層の屈折率が同じ又は実質的に同じである、請求項1又は請求項2に記載の導光板。
- 導光材料の前記第1層及び前記第2層の屈折率が、互いに無関係であり、約1.4〜約1.7である、請求項1から請求項3のいずれかに記載の導光板。
- 導光材料の第1の導光層及び第2の導光層の厚みが、互いに無関係であり、約0.1mm〜約10mmである、請求項1から請求項4のいずれかに記載の導光板。
- 1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造の屈折率が導光材料第1層の屈折率より大きい、請求項1から請求項5のいずれかに記載の導光板。
- 前記1又はそれ以上の散乱構造が透明インク中に分散されている、請求項1から請求項6のいずれかに記載の導光板。
- 透明インクの屈折率が導光材料第1層の屈折率と同じ又は実質的に同じである、請求項7に記載の導光板。
- 前記1又はそれ以上の散乱構造が微粒子形状である、請求項1から請求項8のいずれかに記載の導光板。
- 微粒子の粒子サイズが約1〜約20ミクロンの範囲である、請求項9に記載の導光板。
- この微粒子がシリカ微粒子である、請求項9又は請求項10に記載の導光板。
- 前記散乱構造の屈折率が約1.6〜約2.0である、請求項1から請求項11のいずれかに記載の導光板。

- 導光装置が端面照射型である、請求項13から請求項15のいずれかに記載の導光装置。
- 1又はそれ以上の光源が導光材料層によって封入されていない、請求項13から請求項16のいずれかに記載の導光装置。
- 請求項13から請求項17のいずれかに記載の導光装置を有する表示装置。
- 表示装置が液晶セルを含む請求項18に記載の表示装置。
- a)導光材料の第1層の第1表面に1又はそれ以上の光散乱構造を設けること、
