Abstract
バッテリー管理システムは、バッテリーの動作に関するデータを記憶するためのメモリーを含み、更に、このバッテリー管理システムは、バッテリーの動作に関するデータを、解析のために他のプロセッサに通信するようにも構成される。
Description
しかし、患者の体格および体重が処置中のバッテリーの電流ドレイン量を決定する要因であることを経験は示している。従って、平均よりも大きい患者の処置にはバッテリーからの電流流出量が多くなる。
充電中にそれぞれのセルの電圧は、セルの過剰充電を防ぐために独立して監視される。一つの例示的な実施態様では、例えばO2 マイクロ社が提供するOZ890などのバッテリー・パック保護および監視集積回路(IC)410でありうるマイクロチップ上の監視システムが、様々なセルの充電を制御するために使用される。このような配置においては、セル監視線390は、IC410の代表的なピン入力にポジティブな信号を送る。例えば、セル1はIC410の入力線BC1を用いて監視され、同様にIC410の入力線BC11を用いて監視されるセル11まで続く。
本発明の幾つかの実施態様は、壊滅的な不具合に対する2次的保護または過剰電圧保護を含むこともある。このような2次的保護は、バッテリー・パックの電圧および/または主バスを通る電流の流れを監視し、特定の電流または電圧の閾値を超える時に処理を行うように設計された様々な回路によって備えられる。一つの実施態様では、このような保護は、例えばO2マイクロ社が提供するOZ8800などの集積回路500によって備えられることもある。バッテリー・パックに使用されるセルの数によって複数のIC500が必要になるかもしれないことを当業者は理解するであろう。例えば、OZ8800の2次的レベルバッテリー保護集積回路は3個から7個の個々のセルを監視できる。従って、11個のセルを使用する場合には、2個のOZ8800が必要となる。
本発明のもう一つの実施態様ではバッテリー・パック中に残存する有用な充電量を監視する「燃料測定」機能を含む。このような燃料測定機能性は、使用時間、放電率、およびバッテリーの温度に基づき使用および待機状態のための残余バッテリー容量を計算するなど、様々なタスクを実行するよう設計された集積回路を用いて具備される。このような回路はまた、ほぼ完全な充電状態からほぼ完全な放電状態までの放電サイクルのプロセスにおける真のバッテリー容量を決定することもできる。
本発明のもう一つの実施態様では、バッテリー管理システムは、バッテリー管理システムが実行する様々な機能の全般的な監視装置としての役割を果たすパック・コントローラ800を含む。パック・コントローラ800は典型的には集積回路であるが、バッテリー・パックの範囲内で利用可能なスペース量によって、同じ機能を実行する離散回路を使用することもできる。
以下で明らかにされる通り、本発明の様々な実施態様に組み込まれる様々なプロセッサおよび集積回路および論理システムは、前面側バス320および裏側バス630を通じて互いに通信する能力を有するため一つの統合システムとして機能することができる。幾つかの実施態様では、これらのバスを通じる通信はシステム管理バス(SMBus)仕様を用いて実行される。SMBusは、IC410、IC610、2次的保護システム500、事象保存装置900、EEPROM1000、パック・コントローラ800、およびその他の回路などの様々なシステム要素チップが互いに、およびシステムの残りの部分と通信できるようにする2線インターフェースである。SMBus仕様に関する更なる情報は、「システム管理バス(SMBus)仕様バージョン2.0」−SBS実行者フォーラム2000年8月3日−に含まれており、これらは参照によりその全体が本明細書に含まれる。
発明者らは、本発明の幾つかの実施態様において、n−FETを閉じさせるのに必要な電圧が、バッテリー・パックから利用可能な電圧を超えることを観察してきた。例えば、10ボルトのバイアス電圧を要するn−FETを用いると、バッテリーを充電または放電するためにn−FETを適当な電圧が通るようにするのに十分なほどn−FETを駆動させるためのバッテリー電圧が、バイアス電圧の駆動電圧に加えてn−FETには必要である。従って、バッテリー・セルによって供給される電流をn−FETが伝導できるようにするために、n−FETのゲートに供給される電圧を上げるための電圧ブースト回路が含まれる。
図6を再度参照すると、パック・コントローラ800は、イベント記録EEPROM900と通信する。ある実施例では、イベント記録EEPROM900は、不揮発性メモリー素子、例えば、メモリー容量が64キロバイトのようなフラッシュ・メモリー素子である。前述の様に、パック・コントローラ800は、バッテリー・パックの利用、動作、及び、性能に関するデータや情報を、後で検索や解析できるよう、イベント記録媒体900に保存できる。
図8は、バッテリー管理システムのプロセッサが、バッテリーの寿命内にバッテリーの動作を監視、制御するのに使用される更新済みのデータ、情報、動作パラメータ、及び、ソフトウェアの配布を支援するために、バッテリー記録メモリーを使用する際の本発明の更なる別の実施例について説明している。
装置1420のメモリー内に記憶されたデータが、古い方のバージョンであれば、データ1405は、バッテリーB1430のメモリーから装置1420へとアップロードされる。装置1420のメモリー内に記憶されたデータが、データ1405よりも新しいバージョンであれば、プロセッサは、新しい方のバージョンのデータをバッテリーB1430にダウンロードして、他の装置、充電器、及び、バッテリーへと更に伝送するために、データ1405を新しい方のバージョンのものと交換するか、または、プロセッサは、伝送を実行せずに、データ1405を装置1420にアップロードしないということを決定できる。
Claims (18)
- 装置に電力を供給するためのバッテリー・パックであって、
正極端子と負極端子を備えた再充電式バッテリーと、
前記再充電式バッテリーの動作に関連するパラメータを監視するためのセンサーと、
前記再充電式バッテリーの動作に関連するデータを記憶するためのメモリーと、
前記センサー、及び、前記メモリーと電気的に接続されたプロセッサとを含み、
前記プロセッサは、前記センサーから信号を受信して、該センサーからの該信号から抽出された前記再充電式バッテリーの動作に関する前記データを前記メモリーに記憶するよう構成され、更に、前記メモリーから前記記憶データを検索して、該記憶データを前記バッテリー・パックの外側のプロセッサに通信するよう構成される
ことを特徴とするバッテリー・パック。 - 前記メモリーが、イベント記録媒体であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記バッテリー・パックの外側の前記プロセッサが、バッテリー充電器に配置されたプロセッサであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記プロセッサは、更に、前記バッテリー・パックにより電力が供給される装置内のプロセッサと通信するよう構成され、該バッテリー・パックにより電力が供給される該装置内の該プロセッサは、該バッテリー・パックにより電力が供給される該装置の動作パラメータに関する情報を、前記メモリー内に記憶するために該プロセッサに通信することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記再充電式バッテリーの前記動作に関する前記データは、該再充電式バッテリーの該動作に関連する履歴データを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記再充電式バッテリーの前記動作に関する前記データは、実行時データを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記再充電式バッテリーの前記動作に関する前記データは、該バッテリーが充電、または、放電された回数、最大、または、最小寿命負荷試験電圧、最大、または、最小寿命負荷試験電流、最大、または、最小寿命負荷試験出力、最大寿命最大充電温度、温度センサーID、最小寿命最大充電温度、最大寿命最大放電温度、寿命内完全充電サイクル計数、寿命内条件サイクル計数、寿命内低出力計数、寿命内起動計数、寿命内リセット計数、寿命内全不具合計数、寿命内セル不足電圧不具合計数、寿命内過剰電流不具合計数、及び、最終条件サイクル時間から成る群から選択されるデータを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記データは、前記再充電式バッテリーの識別に関するデータを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記再充電式バッテリーの識別に関連する前記データは、シリアル番号であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記再充電式バッテリーの動作に関する前記データは、該データが前記メモリーに記憶された日付けと時間を特定するためのタイムスタンプを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記バッテリー充電器に配置された前記プロセッサは、前記再充電式バッテリーの該プロセッサが、前記メモリー内に記憶された前記データを該バッテリー充電器に配置された該プロセッサに通信するようプログラムされ、該バッテリー充電器に配置された該プロセッサは、該受信データを該バッテリー充電器に配置された該プロセッサと関連するメモリーに記憶することを特徴とする請求項3に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記バッテリー充電器に配置された前記プロセッサは、該バッテリー充電器に配置された該プロセッサと関連する前記メモリー内に記憶された前記データを、該バッテリー充電器から離れたサーバに通信するよう構成されることを特徴とする請求項11に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記バッテリー・パック内の受信器により受信された位置信号から、該バッテリー・パックの位置を判定するための回路を、更に含み、前記プロセッサは、該バッテリー・パックの前記位置を前記メモリーに記憶することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記プロセッサは、前記バッテリー・パックにより電力が供給される装置の前記位置を、前記メモリーに記憶することを特徴とする請求項13に記載のバッテリー・パック。
- 前記センサーは、加速度計であり、前記プロセッサは、前記バッテリー・パックが受ける力に関連するデータを決定するよう構成され、更に、該バッテリー・パックが受ける前記力を、前記メモリーに記憶するようにも構成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。

- 前記プロセッサは、前記記憶データをメモリーから検索し、更に、プログラムされたコマンド・コードを該プロセッサに実行させる該プロセッサによって検知されたイベントの発生に反応して、該記憶データを前記バッテリー・パックの外側のプロセッサに通信するよう構成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバッテリー・パック。
