Abstract
Description
同様な他の実施形態では、本発明は画像生成パネルおよび輝度向上パネルに接続されて、第1処理画像データを画像生成パネルに提供し、第2処理画像データを輝度向上パネルに提供するように構成されたコントローラを含み、第1処理画像データは媒体ソースからの画像データ入力および第2処理画像データの生成からのフィードバックに一部基づいて生成される。第1処理画像データは入力画像データのフルカラー高解像度バージョンを備えることができ、第2処理画像データは入力画像データに比例した輝度レベルのマッピングを備えることができる。
ここで、同じ参照番号は同一部品または対応する部品を示す図面、より具体的にはその図1を参照すると、本発明のある実施形態による高ダイナミックレンジディスプレイ100の新たな構造が図示されている。ディスプレイ100はバックライト110を含み、これは標準的なCCFLであっても、または他のブロードバンド光源(例、LED、OLED等)であってもよい。さらに、バックライトは直下型(光源が下流の変調パネルを直接照射する)であっても、または(多くの薄型画面のLCDディスプレイの設計で普及しているように)エッジライト型であってもよい。その上、バックライトは一定であっても、全面調光されても、または局所調光されてもよい。このディスプレイの光源は白色、制御可能な輝度、または多色ドライブにすることができる。
好ましくは、中流拡散板は、上流変調器の各画素から放出される光の粗いエッジを除去して平滑化するように作動する。そうするために、中流拡散板は、例えば、上流拡散板よりも高い拡散解像度を有し(例、より小さな特徴を拡散する)、上流変調器から放出される光の変調解像度を維持することができる拡散板である。例えば、図2Cは、コントラスト向上パネルまたは他の上流変調器から放出されるかもしれないオンオフパターンの変調光280の近似解像度を図示するグラフを提供する。
中流拡散板の粗さは、例えば、コントラスト向上パネルのセルの形状および周辺領域によって一部判断することができる。例えば、コントラスト向上パネルがすべてのサイズでハードウェア(ワイヤ、セル壁等)の量が等しい四角形のセルである場合、中流拡散板の粗さは一般にすべての方向で均一になるであろう。コントラスト向上パネルのセルが長方形の場合、中流拡散板の粗さは、他の要因がすべて等しいと仮定すると、長方形の長辺に対応する方向が粗くなり、長方形の短辺に対応する方向が細かくなるだろう。

関数f1は、RGBカラーLCDの駆動を全白色(最大コードワード)に設定して局所調光パネル(偏光板)の制御を線形に可変するときの総合的な二重変調システムの輝度応答を特徴づける多項式である。

ここで、f4、f6およびf8は、入力原色画素と計算したYoutの出力原色を定義する特徴関数を定義する。f3、f5およびf7は、特徴関数から入力原色と出力とを組み合わせるための非線形組み合わせ関数を定義する。偏光制御をLCD補正システムで予め計算すると、調光面の駆動で計算される偏光制御信号とは独立してLCD制御面を駆動することができるだろう。

計算したこの色回転行列は、捕捉したサンプルデータポイント数が与えられると、XYZ空間での最小二乗色ひずみについて最適になる。より均一に配されたデータポイントが与えられると、計算した色回転行列はディスプレイによる真の回転動作がより正確に表される。
Claims (21)
- 局所調光を有するデュアル変調アーキテクチャを備えるディスプレイにおいて、
変調される局所調光された光は、複数の下流の偏光制御変調器を通過する、ディスプレイ。 - 前記下流の偏光制御変調器は、LCDパネルの各画素がそれぞれ画素の約1/3をカバーする3個のサブピクセルを備えるようにカラーフィルタを取り除いたLCDパネルと、前記LCDパネルにより変調された上流の光線を反映するように構成された分析用偏光板とを備える、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記局所調光された光の光源の周りに配置される偏光解消用反射板をさらに備える、請求項2に記載のディスプレイ。
- 基準偏光板と、輝度を高めて、積層体を通過する光の損失を減少させるように構成された一連のフィルムとを含む光学積層体をさらに備える、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記フィルムは、少なくとも1つの輝度向上層を備える、請求項4に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記光学積層体は、局所調光された光の光源の後かつ複数の下流の変調器のうちの最初の変調器の後に位置付ける、請求項5に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記積層体は、バックライト解像度スケールの拡散板を備え、
前記バックライト解像度は、前記局所調光された光の光源の局所調光能力の解像度を有する、請求項6に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記光学積層体は、複数の下流の変調器の間に位置付けられる、請求項5に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記積層体は、サブピクセルスケールの拡散板を含み、
前記サブピクセルスケールは、前記積層体を囲む前記複数の変調器のうちの上流の変調器のサブピクセルに対応する、請求項8に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記サブピクセルスケールの拡散板は、カラーフィルタを取り除いたLCDパネルにより生成されるサブピクセルに比例するサブピクセルを拡散する拡散板を含む、請求項9に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記変調器のサブピクセルは、標準的なLCD画素の約1/3を含む、請求項9に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記積層体は、前記局所調光された光の光源と前記複数の下流の変調器のうちの最初の変調器との間に位置付けられ、
同様な積層体が、前記複数の下流の変調器のうちの第1の変調器と第2の変調器との間に位置付けられる、請求項5に記載のディスプレイ。 - 前記下流の変調器は、カラーフィルタを取り除いたLCDパネルを含む、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
