Abstract

Claims (12)
- 基板(21)と、前記基板(21)の上に支持される電極ユニット(23)とを含み、内部チェンバー(214)を画定する液体閉じ込め部材(2)と、
前記内部チェンバー(214)の中に配置され、磁性インクである第1の液体(31)と、
前記内部チェンバー(214)の中に配置され、且つ前記第1の液体(31)と混じり合わない極性材料である第2の液体(32)と、
を具備し、
前記第1及び第2の液体(31、32)は、それらの間に液体−液体接触面(33)を画定するように互いに接触し、
前記電極ユニット(23)は、前記液体−液体接触面(33)を横切る電界を与えるための外部電源と接続されるように構成され、
前記液体−液体接触面(33)は、前記液体−液体接触面(33)を横切る電界の変化に反応して変化する形状を有することを特徴とするエレクトロウェッティング装置。 - 前記第1の液体(31)は、磁性顔料粒子と非極性溶媒を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置。
- 前記磁性顔料粒子は、50nmより大きくない平均粒径を持つことを特徴とする請求項2に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置。
- 前記磁性顔料粒子は、酸化鉄を変性した疎水族疎水基で修飾した酸化鉄から作成されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置。
- 前記液体閉じ込め部材(2)は、前記基板(21)を覆うカバー(22)をさらに含み、前記基板(21)は、鉛直方向に前記カバー(22)の反対側にある下部基板(211)と、前記下部基板(211)から鉛直方向に延び、前記下部基板(211)と協働してそれらの間に内部空間(216)を画定する包囲バリケード(215)と、前記内部空間(216)に形成される疎水層(212)とを含み、前記電極ユニット(23)は、前記下部基板(211)に設けられた下部電極(231)と、前記カバー(22)に設けられた上部電極(232)とを含むことを特徴とする請求項21に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置。
- 前記基板(21)は、前記包囲バリケード(215)と前記カバー(22)の間に延び、前記カバー(22)、前記疎水層(212)及び前記包囲バリケード(215)と協働して前記内部チェンバー(214)を画定する親水壁(218)をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項5に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置。
- (a)内部空間(216)を画定し、開口部(219)を画定する開いた端部(217)を有する基板(21)を与えるステップと、
(b)前記内部空間(214)の中の前記基板(21)の所定の領域に、磁性インクである第1の液体(31)を与えるステップと、
(c)前記第1の液体(31)を磁気的に引き付ける磁気ユニット(4)を用いて、前記基板(21)の所定の領域に前記第1の液体(31)を位置決めするステップと、
(d)ステップ(c)の後に、前記第1の液体(31)と混じり合わない第2の液体(32)を前記内部空間(216)に充填するステップと、
を含むことを特徴とするエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。 - (e)ステップ(d)の後に、カバー(22)で前記開口部(219)を覆うステップをさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項7に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。
- ステップ(b)において、前記基板(21)に前記第1の液体(31)を与えることは、インクジェット印刷技術を用いて行われ、前記第2の液体(32)は、極性溶媒であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。
- 前記第1の液体(31)は、磁性顔料粒子と非極性溶媒を含むことを特徴とする請求項7に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。
- 前記磁性顔料粒子は、酸化鉄を変性した疎水族疎水基で修飾した酸化鉄から作成されることを特徴とする請求項10に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。
- 前記カバー(22)と協働して凹部を画定するように、カバー(22)に親水壁(218)を形成するステップと、前記凹部に第2の液体(32)を充填するステップと、包囲バリケード(215)を有し、前記磁気ユニット(4)によって位置決めされた第1の液体(31)が充填された前記基板(21)を反転するステップと、前記親水壁(218)の上端部に前記基板(21)の包囲バリケード(215)を取り付けるステップと、前記第2の液体(32)を前記内部空間(216)の中に流すため、前記基板(21)が前記凹部の下に位置するように前記基板(21)を再度反転させるステップと、をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項8に記載のエレクトロウェッティング装置の製造方法。
