Abstract
【解決手段】磁気ヘッドの製造方法は、収容部50を形成する工程と帰磁路部30を形成する工程を備えている。帰磁路部30は、主磁極15と基板1の上面1aとの間に配置されて、コイルの一部が通過する空間が形成されるように主磁極15のうちの媒体対向面80から離れた部分とシールド16を接続する。収容部50は、帰磁路部30の少なくとも一部を収容する。帰磁路部30を形成する工程は、第1ないし第3の部分31A,31B,31Cを同時に形成する。第1の部分31Aは、上記空間よりも基板1の上面1aにより近い位置にあり、第2の部分31Bは、上記空間よりも媒体対向面80により近い位置にあり、第3の部分31Cは、上記空間よりも媒体対向面80からより遠い位置にある。

Description
以下、本発明の実施の形態について図面を参照して詳細に説明する。始めに、図1ないし図6を参照して、本発明の第1の実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドの構成について説明する。図1は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドを示す断面図である。図2は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドの媒体対向面を示す正面図である。図3は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの第1の部分を示す平面図である。図4は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの第2の部分の第1層を示す平面図である。図5は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの第2の部分の第2層を示す平面図である。図6は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおける主磁極の媒体対向面の近傍の部分を示す断面図である。なお、図1および図6は媒体対向面および基板の上面に垂直な断面を示している。図1および図6において記号Tで示す矢印は、記録媒体の進行方向を表している。図2ないし図5において記号TWで示す矢印は、トラック幅方向を表している。
次に、図25および図26を参照して、本発明の第2の実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドについて説明する。図25は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの複数の第1のコイル要素を示す平面図である。図26は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの複数の第2のコイル要素を示す平面図である。
次に、図27を参照して、本発明の第3の実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドについて説明する。図27は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドを示す断面図である。なお、図27は媒体対向面および基板の上面に垂直な断面、特に前記主断面を示している。本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドでは、磁性層32が設けられていない。収容部50を構成する非磁性層51の開口部51aと、磁性層31の第1の部分31Aは、磁性層32が存在しない分だけ小さくなっている。磁性層31の第3の部分31Cの上端は、磁性層36の下面のうちの、媒体対向面80に最も近い端部の近傍の部分に接続されている。
次に、図28および図29を参照して、本発明の第4の実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドについて説明する。図28は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドを示す断面図である。なお、図28は媒体対向面および基板の上面に垂直な断面、特に前記主断面を示している。図29は、本実施の形態に係る磁気ヘッドにおけるコイルの第2の部分の第2層を示す平面図である。
Claims (4)
- 記録媒体に対向する媒体対向面と、
前記記録媒体に記録する情報に応じた磁界を発生するコイルと、
前記媒体対向面に配置された端面を有し、前記コイルによって発生された磁界に対応する磁束を通過させると共に、垂直磁気記録方式によって前記情報を前記記録媒体に記録するための記録磁界を発生する主磁極と、
磁性材料よりなり、前記媒体対向面に配置された端面を有する記録シールドと、
非磁性材料よりなり、前記主磁極と前記記録シールドとの間に設けられたギャップ部と、
磁性材料よりなる第1の帰磁路部と、
非磁性材料よりなり、前記第1の帰磁路部の少なくとも一部を収容する収容部と、
上面を有する基板とを備え、
前記コイル、主磁極、記録シールド、ギャップ部、第1の帰磁路部および収容部は、前記基板の上面の上方に配置され、
前記記録シールドの端面は、前記主磁極の前記端面に対して前記記録媒体の進行方向の前側に配置された第1の端面部分と、前記主磁極の前記端面に対して前記記録媒体の進行方向の後側に配置された第2の端面部分とを含み、
前記第1の帰磁路部は、前記主磁極に対して前記記録媒体の進行方向の後側であって前記主磁極と前記基板の上面との間に配置されて、前記主磁極、ギャップ部、記録シールドおよび第1の帰磁路部によって囲まれた第1の空間が形成されるように、前記主磁極のうちの前記媒体対向面から離れた部分と前記記録シールドとを接続し、
前記コイルは、前記第1の空間を通過するように延びる少なくとも1つの第1のコイル要素を含み、
前記第1の帰磁路部は、第1ないし第3の部分を含む磁性層を有し、前記第1の部分は、前記第1の空間よりも前記基板の上面により近い位置にあり、前記第2の部分は、前記第1の空間よりも前記媒体対向面により近い位置にあり、前記第3の部分は、前記第1の空間よりも前記媒体対向面からより遠い位置にある垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法であって、
前記収容部を形成する工程と、
前記収容部の形成後に、前記第1の帰磁路部を形成する工程と、
前記第1の帰磁路部の形成後に、前記コイル、主磁極、記録シールドおよびギャップ部を形成する工程とを備え、
前記第1の帰磁路部を形成する工程は、前記第1ないし第3の部分を同じ材料によって同時に形成することを特徴とする垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法。 - 前記収容部は、前記第2の部分と前記媒体対向面との間に介在する介在部を含み、
前記介在部は、前記第2の部分に向いた傾斜面を有し、
前記傾斜面における任意の位置の前記媒体対向面からの距離は、前記任意の位置が前記基板の上面から離れるに従って小さくなり、
前記第2の部分は、前記傾斜面に沿って延在することを特徴とする請求項1記載の垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法。 - 前記第2の部分は、前記媒体対向面に向いた第1の端面と、前記記録シールドに接する第2の端面とを有し、
前記第1の端面は、前記媒体対向面に位置する端部を有し、
前記第1の端面の端部の位置において、前記第1の端面の端部よりも前記記録媒体の進行方向の前側に位置する前記媒体対向面の一部に対して前記第1の端面がなす第2の角度は、90°よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項2記載の垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法。 - 前記垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドは、更に、前記主磁極に対して前記記録媒体の進行方向の前側に配置されて、前記主磁極、ギャップ部、記録シールドおよび第2の帰磁路部によって囲まれた第2の空間が形成されるように、前記主磁極のうちの前記媒体対向面から離れた部分と前記記録シールドとを接続する第2の帰磁路部を備え、
前記コイルは、更に、前記第2の空間を通過するように延びる少なくとも1つの第2のコイル要素を含み、
前記垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法は、更に、前記主磁極の形成後に、前記第2の帰磁路部を形成する工程を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1記載の垂直磁気記録用磁気ヘッドの製造方法。
