以下に説明される理由により、a*b*平面においてオレンジ色サブピクセルと、ライム色サブピクセルと、紫色サブピクセルとの間の角度はすべて、120°±5°の範囲内に入ることが望ましい。
(a)RGB値に対応するシアン値、マゼンタ値および黄値を推定することと、
(b)ステップ(a)において推定されたシアン値、マゼンタ値および黄値の最低値を決定し、ステップ(a)において推定されたシアン値、マゼンタ値および黄値の各々からこの最低値を引き、修正されたシアン値、マゼンタ値、黄値を提供することと、
(c)赤値、緑値および青値の最低値を決定し、ステップ(b)において計算された修正されたシアン値、マゼンタ値、黄値にこの最低値を追加し、最終のシアン値C、マゼンタ値M、黄値Yをそれぞれ生成することと、
(d)赤値および黄値、緑値およびシアン値、ならびに青値およびマゼンタ値の重みつき平均をそれぞれ用いて、オレンジ色値、ライム色値、紫色値を得ることと、
(e)赤値、緑値および青値の最低値および最終のシアン値C、マゼンタ値M、黄値Yの重みつき平均値に白値を設定することと

新しい原色は、所望の色全領域およびコントラスト要求に従って、種々の割合でRGB原色とYCM原色とを混ぜ合わせることによって生成され得る。混ぜ合わせの最適化は、カラーフィルタから入手可能な個々のRGBCMY色の飽和における最適なバランスを達成するために、原色を効果的に回転させる方法で、RGBおよびYCMの原色の割合を変えることによって達成され得る。例えば、本発明において用いられる新オレンジ(O)、ライム(L)および紫(P)の原色は、概して以下のように定義され得る。
L=(α3G+α4C)/(α3+α4)
P=(α5B+α6M)/(α5+α6)
ここで、α1〜α6の各々は定数であり、比率α1:α2、α3:α4およびα5:α6は、a*b*平面において、オレンジ色サブピクセルが25°〜65°の範囲内の色相を有し、ライム色サブピクセルが145°〜185°の範囲内の色相を有し、紫サブピクセルが265°〜305°の範囲内の色相を有するように選ばれる(このことは、比率α1:α2、α3:α4およびα5:α6の各々は、1:2.3〜2.3:1の範囲内に入ることを含意する)。最適な比率は、最大全領域と色の標準の組に調和する能力との間の所望のバランスに依存する。概して、a*b*平面において45°に対応する色相を有するオレンジ原色を用いることが好ましい。

Claims (16)
- 複数のピクセルを含むカラーフィルタアレイであって、該ピクセルは、それぞれ、
La*b*色空間のa*b*平面において25°〜65°の範囲内の色相を有するオレンジ色サブピクセルと、
該a*b*平面において145°〜185°の範囲内の色相を有するライム色サブピクセルと、
該a*b*平面において265°〜305°の範囲内の色相を有する紫色サブピクセルと
を含むことを特徴とする、カラーフィルタアレイ。 - 各オレンジ色サブピクセルは、前記a*b*平面において35°〜55°の範囲内の色相を有し、
各ライム色サブピクセルは、該a*b*平面において155°〜175°の範囲内の色相を有し、
各紫色サブピクセルは、該a*b*平面において275°〜295°の範囲内の色相を有する、請求項1に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。 - 各オレンジ色サブピクセルは、前記a*b*平面において40°〜50°の範囲内の色相を有し、
各ライム色サブピクセルは、該a*b*平面において160°〜170°の範囲内の色相を有し、
各紫色サブピクセルは、該a*b*平面において280°〜290°の範囲内の色相を有する、請求項2に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。 - 各ピクセルは、白色サブピクセルをさらに含む、請求項1に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。
- 前記オレンジ色サブピクセル、ライム色サブピクセルおよび紫色サブピクセルの各々に対して、前記a*b*座標は、
(a*)2+(b*)2≧25
の関係を満足する、請求項1に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。 - 前記オレンジ色サブピクセル、ライム色サブピクセルおよび紫色サブピクセルの各々に対して、前記a*b*座標は、
(a*)2+(b*)2≧100
という関係を満足する、請求項5に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。 - 前記a*b*平面において、オレンジ色サブピクセルと、ライム色サブピクセルと、紫色サブピクセルとの間の角度はすべて、120°±5°の範囲内に入る、請求項1に記載のカラーフィルタアレイ。
- 前記請求項のいずれか1項に記載のカラーフィルタを特徴とする電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 反射性である電子光学媒体を有することにより、光は、前記カラーフィルタを通過し、該電子光学媒体から反射され、該カラーフィルタを通過して観察者に戻る、請求項8に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 前記電子光学材料は、回転二色部材またはエレクトロクロミック材料を含む、請求項8に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 前記電子光学材料は、電気泳動材料を含み、該電気泳動材料は、流体内に配置され、電界の影響によって該流体を通って動くことが可能な複数の電気的に帯電した粒子を含む、請求項8に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 前記電気的に帯電した粒子および前記流体は、複数のカプセルまたはマイクロセル内に閉じ込められる、請求項11に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 前記電気的に帯電した粒子および前記流体は、ポリマー材料を含む連続相によって囲まれる複数の分離した小滴として存在する、請求項11に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 前記流体は気体である、請求項11に記載の電子光学ディスプレイ。
- 請求項8〜14のいずれか1項に記載のディスプレイを備えている、電子ブックリーダ、ポータブルコンピュータ、タブレットコンピュータ、セルラ電話、スマートカード、標識、腕時計、書架見出しまたはフラッシュドライブ。
- 請求項8に記載のディスプレイ上に表示するためにRGB画像を変換する方法であって、該方法は、各ピクセルに対して、
(a)RGB値に対応するシアン値、マゼンタ値および黄値を推定することと、
(b)ステップ(a)において推定された該シアン値、該マゼンタ値および該黄値の最低値を決定し、ステップ(a)において推定された該シアン値、該マゼンタ値および該黄値の各々からこの最低値を引き、修正されたシアン値、マゼンタ値、黄値を提供することと、
(c)赤値、緑値および青値の最低値を決定し、ステップ(b)において計算された該修正されたシアン値、マゼンタ値、黄値にこの最低値を加算し、最終的なシアン値C、マゼンタ値M、黄値Yをそれぞれ生成することと、
(d)該赤値および黄値、緑値およびシアン値、ならびに青値およびマゼンタ値の重みつき平均をそれぞれ用いて、オレンジ色値、ライム色値、紫色値を得ることと、
(e)該赤値、緑値および青値の該最低値と、該最終的なシアン値C、マゼンタ値M、黄値Yとの重みつき平均値に白値を設定することと
を行うことを特徴とする、方法。
