Description
本願は、2007年4月11日に出願された米国仮出願第11/734,113号、発明の名称「不混和金属のストリップ鋳造」の優先権を主張し、その内容は、本願に組み込まれるものとする。
本発明の一実施例は、金属の鋳造、特に不混和金属のストリップ鋳造方法に関する。
Sn、Pb、Bi、Cdを含有したアルミニウム基合金は、内燃エンジンのベアリングに広く用いられている。これら合金のベアリング機能は合金化元素の軟質第二相粒子によって果たされ、前記粒子は潤滑油が切れた場合に溶解して、合金中のアルミニウムとベアリングに保護されたスチールとの接触を防ぐ。
本発明は、不混和(immiscible)液体からアルミニウム合金をストリップ鋳造する方法であって、微細な第2相粒子が高度に一様に分布した組織を有する薄ストリップを生成する方法を開示する。本発明は、既知の鋳造プロセスを用いて達成されることができ、合金は高速度で薄ストリップに鋳造される。本発明の一実施例の方法では、鋳造速度は約50〜約300フィート/分(fpm)であり、ストリップの厚さは約0.08〜約0.25インチの範囲内である。これらの条件では、鋳造プロセスで凝固フロント(solidification front)が生じる前に、不混和液相の液滴(droplets)が液中で核生成するときに、好ましい結果が達成される。不混和相の液滴は、凝固フロントが急速移動することにより、二次デンドライトアーム(Secondary Dendrite Arms;SDA)間のスペースに取り込まれる。

Claims (9)
- 不混和金属の合金を鋳造する方法であって、
少なくとも1以上の不混和相を含む溶融金属混合物を、鋳造装置に供給すること、及び
溶融金属混合物を約50〜約300fpmの速度で送給し、鋳造装置で凝固フロントが生成される前に不混和液相の微細な液滴を核生成することにより、二次デンドライトアーム間に微細な液滴を生成し、少なくとも1以上の不混和相の一様な分布を生じさせることを含んでいる、方法。 - 鋳造装置のニップを、約0.08〜約0.25インチの範囲に設定するステップ、をさらに含んでいる、請求項1の方法。
- 溶融金属を送給するステップは、溶融金属混合物を約50〜約300fpmの速度で送給することを含んでいる、請求項1の方法。
- 溶融金属混合物は、Sn、Pb、Bi及びCdのうち少なくとも一種を含んでいる、請求項1の方法。
- 溶融金属混合物はアルミニウム合金を含んでいる、請求項1の方法。
- 溶融金属混合物はSnを少なくとも0.1%以上含んでいる、請求項1の方法。
