コーディエライトからなるハニカム体の流路を交互にパラフィンロウで閉鎖した。該ハニカム体は、14.4cmの直径、15.24cmの長さ、および46.5cm-2のセル密度と、0.3mmの流路壁の厚さを有していた。該材料の多孔度は、22μmの平均細孔直径で65%であった。
比較のために、例1と同一のハニカム体を、その流路を予め交互に閉鎖することなく、触媒懸濁液で被覆し、乾燥させ、かつか焼した。被覆後の触媒量は234g/lであった。
本発明により被覆したハニカム体と、慣用の方法で被覆したハニカム体との動圧を測定するために、前記の例と同様の寸法を有する2つの別のハニカム体を、例1および被覆例1と同様に、鉄交換ゼオライトにより被覆した。本発明により被覆したハニカム体上の被覆濃度は、330g/ハニカム体lであり、慣用の方法で被覆したハニカム体上では327.5g/lであった。
Claims (9)
- 連続気孔構造を有する流路壁により相互に境界付けられている平行な流路が入口前面から出口前面へと貫通するセラミックハニカム体を触媒により被覆し、その際、被覆のために、液状担体中に懸濁した固体を含有する触媒懸濁液を使用する、セラミックハニカム体を触媒により被覆する方法において、流路を一時的に入口前面および出口前面において交互に閉鎖し、触媒懸濁液を入口面から出口面へとハニカム体に貫流させ、かつ引き続き、交互に閉鎖されている流路を再び開放することを特徴とする、セラミックハニカム体を触媒により被覆する方法。
- 触媒懸濁液を吸引するか、またはポンプを用いてハニカム体に貫流させることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- ハニカム体を触媒懸濁液中に浸漬するか、または触媒懸濁液により越流することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 慣用の作業温度でハニカム体を被覆する際には固体であり、温度を高めた時に溶融もしくは気化するか、溶剤により溶出することができるか、熱により分解することができるか、または化学反応することができる封止材料で流路を交互に閉鎖することを特徴とする、請求項2または3記載の方法。
- 封止材料として、80℃を上回る融点を有し、被覆したハニカム体をか焼する際に燃焼する天然または合成ワックスを使用することを特徴とする、請求項4記載の方法。
- ハニカム体が、10〜50μmの平均細孔直径で30〜90%の多孔度を有することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 懸濁液の固体が、3〜5μmの範囲の平均粒径d50を有することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 懸濁液の固体が、1〜3μmの範囲の平均粒径d50を有することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 懸濁液の固体が、1μmより小さい平均粒径d50を有することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
