Abstract
【解決手段】入力映像信号Dinにおける輝度情報に基づいて、光源11からの光の光量が減少するように、可変絞り16によって光量調整を行う。その光量調整量に応じて入力映像信号Dinの輝度レベルが高くなるように、映像信号処理部23によって画像補正を行う。また、液晶素子14R,14G,14Bにより変調された光の輝度状態に対応する最終表示輝度状態が所定の輝度状態よりも明るい状態のときには、特徴情報処理部22によって、光量制御信号S2および映像制御信号S1のうちの少なくとも一方を、設定された調整方向または補正方向とは逆方向に再設定する。

Claims (12)
- 光源と、
前記光源からの光を映像信号に基づいて変調する空間光変調素子と、
前記映像信号における輝度情報に基づいて、前記光源からの光の光量が減少するように調整を行う光量調整手段と、
前記光量調整手段による光量調整量に応じて前記映像信号の輝度レベルが高くなるように補正を行い、補正後の映像信号を前記空間光変調素子へ供給する画像補正手段と、
前記空間変調素子により変調された光の輝度状態に対応する最終表示輝度状態が所定の輝度状態よりも明るい状態のときに、前記光量調整手段による調整後の光量および前記画像補正手段による補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルのうちの少なくとも一方を、前記光量調整手段による調整方向または前記画像補正手段による補正方向とは逆方向に再設定する再設定手段と
を備えたことを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記再設定手段は、前記調整後の光量が所定の光量閾値よりも大きい一定の範囲内となるときに、この調整後の光量が前記光量調整手段により設定される値よりも大きくなるように、調整後の光量を再設定する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記再設定手段は、表示画面内の全画素のうち、前記補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルが所定の輝度閾値よりも大きくなる画素の割合が、所定の画素閾値よりも大きくなるときに、前記補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルが前記画像補正手段により設定される値よりも大きくなるように、補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルを再設定する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記再設定手段は、前記最終表示輝度状態が前記所定の輝度状態よりも明るい状態のとき、前記調整後の光量および前記補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルをそれぞれ、調整前の光量および補正前の映像信号の輝度レベルに再設定する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記所定の輝度状態が、調整可能となっている
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記所定の輝度状態が、前記映像信号に基づく映像の絵柄に応じて、調整可能となっている
ことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記再設定手段は、再設定した後の前記調整後の光量または前記補正後の映像信号の輝度レベルをそれぞれの目標値とすることにより、前記光量調整手段による前記光源からの光の光量調整または前記画像補正手段による前記映像信号の輝度レベルの補正を、フレーム単位で漸近的に行わせる
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記映像信号における輝度情報が、表示領域における輝度ヒストグラム分布である
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間変調素子により変調された光をスクリーンに投射する投射手段を備え、
前記光量調整手段が、前記光源からの光を絞ることにより光量調整を行う可変絞りである
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間変調素子が液晶素子であり、液晶プロジェクタとして構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間光変調素子が液晶素子であると共に前記光源が前記液晶素子のバックライト光源であり、液晶表示装置として構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記バックライト光源が発光ダイオード(LED)を含んで構成され、
前記光量調整手段は、前記映像信号における輝度情報に基づいて前記発光ダイオードへの供給電圧を変化させることにより、前記バックライト光源からの光の光量を調整する
ことを特徴とする請求項11に記載の画像表示装置。
