Abstract
Description
テトラテックス(Tetratex)(登録商標)3109ePTFE、公称0.5mil(12μm)厚、走査型電子顕微鏡写真(SEM)およびマイクロメータによる計測値0.4mil(10μm)厚で、7μmの規定された最大孔径を有するものが用いられる。2インチ(51cm)の直径のディスクをコートする。ディスクは29.9mgの重さで、1.3mgの標準偏差を有する。10.8%固形分の上述のナフィオン(Nafion)(登録商標)分散体の172μmの未乾燥コーティングを、ePTFEのディスクの底面および次いで上面に塗布し、コーティング工程の間に乾燥させる。コートされたePTFEは、40℃で1.4分、次いで60℃で1.4分、および最後に80℃で1.4分乾燥させる。最終的な乾燥総厚は、15.25μmである。コートされたePTFEの断面のSEMによる検査においては、ePTFEはコーティング後には、その前より薄く、コーティング溶液の乾燥および体積の減少に伴うePTFEの収縮性を示していることが見受けられる。
本発明により形成された複合膜において用いられるePTFEが上記に記載されている。このePTFEは、公称8〜10μm厚であり、入手においては0.2mil(5μm)〜0.4mil(10μm)の範囲(SEM計測から得られるとおり)である。ePTFEは、対照例1の手順に従ってコートされる。初期未乾燥コーティング厚は150μmである。コートされたメンブレン厚は15μmである。目視検査では白色材料または曇りは見られなかった。曇価は4.18±0.37%(6.97%/25μm)として計測され、対照例1において見出される曇価よりかなり低い。曇りの原因が不完全にコートされたまたはコートされていない領域、未充填孔、および/またはポリマーにおける不均一性にあると考えられているところ、この実施例は、コーティング後は、複合膜に残留してメンブレンを通る輸送に干渉するまたは温度または温度が変化したときに応力の原因となる、視認可能な材料を有していない、実施例1において用いられたePTFEの優れた性質を示す。
実施例2が、FC−40中の3重量%固形分テフロン(Teflon)(登録商標)AF1600溶液を用いて繰り返される。複合膜は目視検査では清透である。曇価計測は実施例2と同様の結果をもたらす。
Claims (11)
- 発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンおよびマトリックスポリマーから構成される複合膜であって、前記発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンが、約2.16以下の標準比重(SSG)、少なくとも約5.5重量lb(24.5N)の破断強度、および少なくとも約500秒の応力緩和時間を有するポリテトラフルオロエチレン微粉末から形成されていることを特徴とする複合膜。
- 約25%/25μm未満の曇価(haze)を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の複合膜。
- 前記マトリックスポリマーがイオン交換ポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の複合膜。
- 前記イオン交換ポリマーがフルオロポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の複合膜。
- 前記マトリックスポリマーが半透膜の形成に有用であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の複合膜。
- 前記マトリックスポリマーがアモルファスポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の複合膜。
- 前記アモルファスポリマーがフルオロポリマーであることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の複合膜。
- 発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンおよびマトリックスポリマーから構成される複合膜から構成された半透膜であって、前記発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンが、約2.16以下の標準比重(SSG)、少なくとも約5.5重量lb(24.5N)の破断強度、および少なくとも約500秒の応力緩和時間を有するポリテトラフルオロエチレン微粉末から形成されていることを特徴とする半透膜。
- 約25%/25μm未満の曇価を有することを特徴とする請求項8に記載の半透膜。
- 発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンおよびマトリックスポリマーとしてのイオン交換ポリマーから構成される複合膜から構成された電気化学セル膜であって、前記発泡ポリテトラフルオロエチレンが、約2.16以下の標準比重(SSG)、少なくとも約5.5重量lb(24.5N)の破断強度、および少なくとも約500秒の応力緩和時間を有するポリテトラフルオロエチレン微粉末から形成されていることを特徴とする電気化学セル膜。
- 約25%/25μm未満の曇価を有することを特徴とする請求項10に記載の電気化学セル膜。
