Abstract
【解決手段】第1の電極21と、第1の電極21と対向する第2の電極22と、第1の電極21と第2の電極22とで挟持され帯電した電気泳動粒子を有する電気泳動素子23とを備えた画素を平面的に配列してなる電気泳動表示装置において、隣り合う第1の電極21の間の領域に絶縁層31が形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置とした。

Description
以下に、図面を用いて本発明における電気泳動表示装置1について説明する。図1は本発明の実施形態に係る電気泳動表示装置1の構成図である。電気泳動表示装置1は表示部3と走査線駆動回路6と、データ線駆動回路7と、共通電源変調回路8とコントローラ10とを備えている。
画素2は、駆動用TFT(Thin Film Transistor、画素スイッチング素子)24と、SRAM(Static Random Access Memory、メモリ回路)25と、画素電極(第1の電極)21と、共通電極(第2の電極)22と、電気泳動素子23とで構成される。
次に、本実施形態に係る電気泳動表示装置1の駆動方法について、図面を用いて説明する。
図8は、図1の表示部3の隣り合う画素2の模式図である。
図9は、本発明を適用した電気泳動表示装置101の構成図である。共通電源変調回路108は第1の制御線111及び第2の制御線112を介して画素102に接続されていることが、本発明の実施形態に係る回路構成と異なる点である。
図11は、本実施形態に係る電気泳動表示装置の部分断面図である。
図13は、本実施形態に係る電気泳動表示装置の断面図である。
図15は、本実施形態に係る電気泳動表示装置の断面図である。
図17は本発明に係る電気泳動表示装置1を備えた電子機器の一例である。上述した電気泳動表示装置1は、様々な電子機器に適用され、以下で上述の電気泳動表示装置1を備えた電子機器の例について説明する。まず、電気泳動表示装置1をフレキシブルな電子ペーパに適用した例について説明する。図17はこの電子ペーパの構成を示す斜視図であり、電子ペーパ1000は本発明の電気泳動表示装置1を表示部として備える。電子ペーパ1000は、従来の紙と同様の質感及び柔軟性を有するシートからなる本体1001の表面に本発明の電気泳動表示装置1を備えた構成となっている。

- 第1の電極と、前記第1の電極と対向する第2の電極と、前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極とで挟持され帯電した電気泳動粒子を有する電気泳動素子とを備えた画素を平面的に配列してなる電気泳動表示装置において、
隣り合う前記第1の電極の間の領域に絶縁層が形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 第1の電極と、前記第1の電極と対向する第2の電極と、前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極とで挟持され帯電した電気泳動粒子を有する電気泳動素子とを備えた画素を平面的に配列してなる電気泳動表示装置において、
前記第1の電極の表面には、前記第1の電極の上面に開口部を有する絶縁層が形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項2に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記絶縁層は、前記第1の電極の上面の周縁部を覆って形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1又は請求項2に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記絶縁層は、前記第1の電極の側端面に当接して形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記絶縁層は、前記第1の電極から離間した位置に形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1又は請求項5に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記絶縁層が、前記第1の電極の上面より前記電気泳動素子側に突出していることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1又は請求項2に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記絶縁層は、前記隣り合う第1の電極の上面同士にわたって形成されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1から請求項7の何れか1項に記載の電気泳動表示装置において、
前記電気泳動素子は前記電気泳動粒子を封入したカプセル状であり、接着剤層を介して前記第1の電極上に配置されていることを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 請求項1から請求項8の何れか1項に記載の電気泳動表示装置を備えた電子機器。
