Abstract
Description
液体媒体と、解膠剤と、ベーマイトと、Gd2O3源(たとえば、ガドリニウム塩)と、ZnO源(たとえば、亜鉛塩)とを含む成分を組合せることによって、分散体を調製する工程と、
分散体を微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料に変換する工程と、
微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料を焼結して、焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を提供する工程とを含む方法を提供する。

分散体または含浸組成物の少なくとも1つが、Gd2O3源(たとえば、ガドリニウム塩)と、ZnO源(たとえば、亜鉛塩)とを含む、方法を提供する。
「ベーマイト」とは、アルファアルミナ一水和物、および当該技術において「擬」ベーマイトと通常呼ばれるベーマイト(すなわち、Al2O3・xH2O、ここで、x=1から2)を指す。

18.9リットルのポリエチレンライニング鋼容器内に投入し連続的に混合して、分散体:約60℃の脱イオン水6640部、16N分析試薬グレード硝酸160部、およびアルファ酸化アルミニウム一水和物(alpha aluminum oxide monohydrate)粉末(南アフリカ、ヨハネスバーグのサソール・リミテッド(Sasol Limited, Johannesburg, South Africa.)から商品名「ディスペラル(DISPERAL)」で市販されている)3200部を形成することによって、実施例1を調製した。
実施例22および比較例II〜XVIを、いくつかのランタニド、MgO、および/またはZnO配合物で調製して、焼成密度を比較した。使用された成分のモル比は、1.2重量%のMgO、2.4重量%のLa2O3、1.2重量%のY2O3、および95.2重量%のAl2O3を含有する商品名「キュービトロン(CUBITRON)321」で3Mカンパニー(3M Company)によって販売される研磨粒子のものに基づいた。酸化物のモル比は、0.030モルのMgOまたはZnOモル対0.0074のREOモル対0.0053のY2O3対0.934モルのAl2O3であった。
実施例23および比較例XVII〜XXXIIIの場合、さまざまなモル量のZnO/MgOおよびREOを有する研磨粒子を調製した。組成および密度は、下記表7に提供されている。
実施例24および比較例XXXIV〜LIの場合、REOの重量パーセントを5%に一定に保持しながら、REO対ZnO/MgOのさまざまなモル比を有する研磨粒子を製造した。組成物および密度は、下記表8に提供されている。
実施例26および27ならびに比較例LII〜LXXXXVIIIを、組成が下記表9に示された通りである以外は、実施例1について説明されたように調製した。いくつかの場合、REO対MgOまたはZnOのモル比は1:2.7であり、いくつかの場合、REOカチオン対MgOまたはZnOのモル比は1:8であり、1つの場合、REO対MgOのモル比は1:4であり、1つの場合、REO対ZnOのモル比は1:2.2であった。実施例26および27ならびに比較例LII〜LXXXXVIIIの密度を、実施例1について説明されたように測定した。結果は下記表9に提供されている。
針鉄鉱成核剤を使用し、組成が下記表11に示された通りである以外は、実施例1について説明されたように、比較例LXXXXIX〜CVIを調製し、密度を測定し、針鉄鉱成核剤の量はFe2O3として表される。
組成が下記表12に示された通りである以外は、実施例1について説明されたように、実施例29および30を調製し、密度を測定した。
組成および焼結温度が下記表13に示された通りである以外は、実施例1について説明されたように、実施例31および比較例CVIIを調製し、密度を測定した。
Claims (36)
- 焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子であって、アルファアルミナと、前記研磨粒子の総金属酸化物含有量を基準にして、1から15重量パーセントの範囲内のGd2O3と、0.2から8重量パーセントの範囲内のZnOとを含み、Gd2O3対ZnOモル比が2:1から1:5の範囲内であり、前記焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子中に存在する前記アルファアルミナの0.05体積パーセント未満が成核剤で核形成された、焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子。
- 前記Gd2O3対ZnOモル比が1:2から1:4の範囲である、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子。
- 前記焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子中に存在する前記アルファアルミナの0.025体積パーセント未満が成核剤で核形成された、請求項2に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子。
- 前記研磨粒子の総金属酸化物含有量を基準にして、前記Gd2O3が2から8重量パーセントの範囲内で存在し、前記ZnOが1から5重量パーセントの範囲内で存在する、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子。

- 前記焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子中に存在する前記アルファアルミナの0.025体積パーセント未満が成核剤で核形成された、請求項20に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子。
- 研磨物品であって、バインダーと、前記バインダーによって前記物品内に固定された請求項1に記載の複数の研磨粒子とを含む研磨物品。
- 前記研磨物品が、結合研磨物品、不織研磨物品、被覆研磨物品、または研磨ブラシである、請求項22に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記研磨物品が研削ホイールである、請求項22に記載の研磨物品。
- 焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を製造するための方法であって、
液体媒体と、解膠剤と、ベーマイトと、Gd2O3源と、ZnO源とを含む成分を組合せることによって、分散体を調製する工程と、
前記分散体を微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料に変換する工程と、
前記微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料を焼結して、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を提供する工程とを含む方法。 - 前記Gd2O3源がガドリニウム塩であり、前記ZnO源が亜鉛塩を含む、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を製造するための方法であって、
液体媒体と、解膠剤と、ベーマイトとを含む成分を組合せることによって、分散体を調製する工程と、
前記分散体を微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料に変換する工程と、
前記微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料を焼成して、第1の焼成されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記第1の焼成された粒子を、液体媒体を含む含浸組成物で含浸させて、含浸させたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記含浸させたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を焼成して、第2の焼成されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記第2の焼成された粒子を焼結して、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を提供する工程とを含み、
前記分散体または前記含浸組成物の少なくとも1つが、Gd2O3源と、ZnO源とを含む、方法。 - 前記Gd2O3源がガドリニウム塩であり、前記ZnO源が亜鉛塩を含む、請求項27に記載の方法。
- 研磨物品を製造するための方法であって、
液体媒体と、解膠剤と、ベーマイトと、Gd2O3源と、ZnO源とを含む成分を組合せることによって、分散体を調製する工程と、
前記分散体を微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料に変換する工程と、
前記前駆体材料を焼結して、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を提供する工程と、
少なくとも複数の前記焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子をバインダーと組合せて、研磨物品を提供する工程とを含む方法。 - 少なくとも複数の前記アルファアルミナベースセラミック研磨粒子をバインダーと組合せる工程が、溶融アルミナ研磨粒子を前記バインダーと組合せる工程を含む、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 研磨物品を製造するための方法であって、
液体媒体と、解膠剤と、ベーマイトとを含む成分を組合せることによって、分散体を調製する工程と、
前記分散体を微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料に変換する工程と、
前記微粒子状アルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体材料を焼成して、第1の焼成されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記第1の焼成された粒子を、液体媒体を含む含浸組成物で含浸させて、含浸させたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記含浸させたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を焼成して、第2の焼成されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子前駆体粒子を提供する工程と、
前記第2の焼成された粒子を焼結して、請求項1に記載の焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子を提供する工程と、
少なくとも複数の前記焼結されたアルファアルミナベース研磨粒子をバインダーと組合せて、研磨物品を提供する工程とを含み、
前記分散体または前記含浸組成物の少なくとも1つが、Gd2O3源と、ZnO源とを含む、方法。 - 少なくとも複数の前記アルファアルミナベースセラミック研磨粒子をバインダーと組合せる工程が、溶融アルミナ研磨粒子を前記バインダーと組合せる工程を含む、請求項31に記載の方法。
- 表面を研磨する方法であって、
バインダーと、複数の研磨粒子とを含む研磨物品を提供する工程であって、前記研磨粒子の少なくとも一部が、請求項1に記載の研磨粒子である工程と、
前記アルファアルミナと、前記Gd2O3と、前記ZnOとを含む前記研磨粒子の少なくとも1つを、ワークピースの表面と接触させる工程と、
前記アルファアルミナと、前記Gd2O3と、前記ZnOとを含む前記接触させた研磨粒子、または前記接触させた表面の少なくとも1つを移動させて、前記表面の少なくとも一部を、前記アルファアルミナと、前記Gd2O3と、前記ZnOとを含む前記接触させた研磨粒子で研磨する工程とを含む方法。 - 前記表面が、アルミニウム、炭素鋼、軟鋼、工具鋼、ステンレス鋼、硬化鋼、チタンからなる金属、および木材の群から選択される、請求項33に記載の方法。
- 前記表面が、アルミニウム、1018軟鋼、および1045軟鋼からなる金属の群から選択される、請求項33に記載の方法。
