Abstract
【解決手段】バックグラウンドにおいて複数のキャラクターを表示することが可能なディスプレイ領域を有するディスプレイである。このディスプレイは、キャラクターセグメント電極31ー37とバックグラウンド電極50とをマトリックス様式にてアドレス可能となり、かつ、ポジティブモード又はネガティブモードにて駆動可能となる。

Claims (1)
- バックグラウンドに複数のキャラクターを表示することができるディスプレイ領域を有するディスプレイであって、前記キャラクターは複数のセグメントを有しており、当該ディスプレイは:
(a)前記キャラクター領域を規定する電気的に分離された領域を有し、前記ディスプレイ領域に実質的に同延である第1パターン化コンダクター層;
(b)該第1パターン化コンダクター層において前記キャラクター領域のそれぞれに電気接点を形成する第1の複数のコンタクト;
(c)前記第1パターン化コンダクター層上に配置された光変調材料層;
(d)該光変調材料層上に配置され、且つ、前記キャラクターと前記バックグラウンドの前記セグメントを規定する電気的に分離された領域を有し、且つ、前記ディスプレイ領域に実質的に同延である、第2パターン化コンダクター層;
(e)該第2パターン化コンダクター層上に配置され、前記第2パターン化コンダクター層の各セグメント及びバックグラウンドのそれぞれの上のホールを規定する、誘電体層;
(f)前記第2パターン化コンダクターの前記キャラクターセグメントと、前記誘電体層において前記ホールを介した前記バックグラウンド領域とを規定する前記領域に接続された複数のコンダクターを規定する前記誘電体層上に配置された第3パターン化コンダクター層であって、前記コンダクターの少なくとも一つが複数のキャラクターのセグメントに接続されている、第3パターン化コンダクター層;及び
(g)該第3パターン化コンダクター層において前記コンダクターに電気接点を形成する第2の複数のコンタクト;
を備え、
当該ディスプレイは、前記の第1の複数のコンタクト及び前記の第2の複数のコンタクトを電気的にアドレスすることによりマトリックス様式にてアドレス可能であるか、或いは、ポジティブモード若しくはネガティブモードで駆動可能であることを特徴とするディスプレイ。
