- 【請求項1】 キラルなスメクティック液晶混合物を含む液晶切換またはデ
ィスプレイ装置であって、ラビング方向とスメクティック層法線との間の角度と
液晶混合物におけるティルト角との比率Δ/Θが、少なくとも0.41であるこ
とを特徴とする、前記液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置。 - 【請求項2】 液晶混合物が、相配列I−N−Cを有し、25℃におけるテ
ィルト角Θが、19°〜39°の間であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の
液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置。 - 【請求項3】 単安定配列において相配列I−N−Cを有するキラルなスメ
クティック液晶混合物を含む液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置であって、ラビン
グ方向と単安定位置との間の角度ρが、少なくとも1°であることを特徴とする
、前記液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置。 - 【請求項4】 単安定配列において相配列I−N−Cを有するキラルなスメ
クティック液晶混合物を含む液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置であって、光学的
に活性なスメクティック相の存在の範囲の上限であるTCの15℃および5℃下
において測定したティルト角の差異が、9.5°未満であることを特徴とする、
前記液晶切換またはディスプレイ装置。 - 【請求項5】 混合物が、150nC/cm2未満の自発分極を有すること
を特徴とする、請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶切換またはディスプレイ装
置。 - 【請求項6】 装置が、アクティブマトリックスまたはパッシブマトリック
スディスプレイであることを特徴とする、請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶
切換またはディスプレイ装置。 - 【請求項7】 単安定切換およびディスプレイ装置またはディスプレイにお
ける、電気光学的活性層としての、相配列I−N−Cを有するキラルなスメクテ
ィック液晶混合物の使用であって、キラルなスメクティック液晶混合物が、以下
の特性: 50℃より高いTCおよび 105℃より低いTNIおよび 19°<ティルト角(25℃)<39°および 150nC/cm2より小さい自発分極および 2μmより大きいコレステリックヘリックスの間隔 を有し、光学的に活性なスメクティック相の存在の範囲の上限であるTCの15
℃および5℃下において測定したティルト角の差異が、9.5°未満であること
を特徴とする、前記使用。 - 【請求項8】 切換およびディスプレイ装置が、請求項1〜6のいずれかに
おいて定義されたものであることを特徴とする、請求項7に記載の使用。 - 【請求項9】 混合物中の含窒素または含硫黄複素環式化合物の合計の含量
が、少なくとも20重量%であることを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の使用。 - 【請求項10】 混合物が、少なくとも1種のチオフェン誘導体を含むこと
を特徴とする、請求項9に記載の使用。 - 【請求項11】 相配列I−N−Cを有するキラルなスメクティック液晶混
合物であって、全体の混合物を基準として、10重量%のスメクティックAイン
デューサーの添加により、5.5℃より低いsmA相範囲の発生が生じ、全体の
混合物を基準として、25重量%の添加により、少なくとも0.1℃のsmA相
範囲の発生が生じることを特徴とする、前記キラルなスメクティック液晶混合物
。
