Abstract

1356437 3-formyl cephalosporins CIBAGEIGY AG 18 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 28752/71 Heading C2A The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of a 7-amino-cephalosporanic acid derivative of the Formula I wherein X is a hydrogen atom or an acyl residue and R 1 represents a hydrogen atom, a saltforming cation or OR 1 represents a substituted methyl ester group that can be split off by solvolysis, enzymolysis, photolysis or reduction, wherein a compound of the Formula II in which X has the meaning given above and OR stands for a substituted methyl ester group that can be split off by solvolysis, enzymolysis, photolysis or reduction, is oxidized with an aliphatic sulphoxide in the presence of an anhydride of a carboxylic acid and, if desired, the resulting compound is converted into a salt or a resulting salt is converted into another salt. The compounds of Formula I may be used as the active ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable organic or inorganic solid or liquid carrier material suitable for enteral, topical or parenteral administration.
